Pender's Antiques-Refinishing: what do users think?
Lindsay Willis: Penders refinished an antique hutch for us and did an amazing job. The transormation on the hutch is stunning and the white glove delivery service was top notch.
David Heckman: Way to hold the line
Dawn Bennett: The 100 year old mahogany dining table that I inherited from my grandparents had never been refinished and was getting rickety. It is used weekly for family dinners so I decided to have it repaired and refinished along with the chairs and matching buffet. I also had chairs reupholstered.Pender's was recommended by my son. David knows his stuff for sure. The dining set came out gorgeous...beyond my expectations! When David came to give an estimate, he was clear that it would be a few months before he could do the work. In the meantime, he repaired a table leg so it would hold up for the holidays.Debbie called to schedule the work a few months later just as David had said. He was also clear about how long the work would take and was spot on.I also got an estimate from another company and Pender's cost is very competitive. It was great to work with David and Debbie! I highly recommend Pender's.
Ann Pridgen: I had 2 tables refinished. They produced as promised. I was very pleased. They are very friendly and welcoming.
Trish Taylor: PI’ve engaged their services several times. Excellent workmanship! Great customer service.
Felicia Tittle: The first photo is before and the second is the finished product. They did an OUTSTANDING job!
Linda Deese: After my house fire I had to discard much of my furniture. I had some family heirlooms that were restored by Pender's Antiques. They were returned to me looking better than they ever had! I am in my new home now and these antiques are admired by guests. I tell them Pender is the way to go with old stuff to have it renewed and restored. Highly recommend these folks!
Martha Michaux: David runs a VERY efficient business. He gives clear guidelines as to when your piece will be ready and does beautiful work. He even picks up and delivers your goods. He refinished my parents' dining room table and chairs and his work is FANTASTIC. Happy to share we will provide another 40 years of fellowship and food on a table already packed with memories!
Linda Crandall: The family trunk that has been in my family since the 1800s was at some point painted a hideous green color and had broken hinges. Pender's was recommended by a neighbor who is a certified woodwork craftsman. What Pender's did was astonishing, they stripped it and lined with a beautiful fabric. The restoration is so incredible, thank you so much, the work done was top quality in every way! And, they were competitively priced, compared to others in the area.
Teresa Bailey: For many years Dave and his staff have finished treasured antiques and refurbished new treasures for my family. Each piece is beautiful. I especially like my dining room table he tweaked to meet my requests.
Lesia Cox: Perfection! 35+ Year old dining table and chairs restored and refinished to new beauty. Great work at a fair price. Thank you David and team….highly recommend!
Bakaysa: Impeccable workmanship. Customer service was most attentive to my project of couch, love seat and ottoman. Yes, time estimate was more than 2 months, but SO WORTH THE WAIT. You will NOT be disappointed.
Susan Murray: This was my review on Next Door in February: My husband and I have known David for over 20 years, bought pieces and had furniture refinished by him. We never had a reason not to trust him and considered him a good business acquaintance. Several years back we put a family heirloom on consignment with him, and also a vintage foosball table that he was going to see if his guys in the shop wanted to use. If so, he was going to pay us for it if not list it on consignment or return it. I am not going to say I am not taking any blame here, because due to our trust in him we did everything verbally and had not official paperwork, but over a year or after he had the piece, he called my husband with questions and requested we look for additional pieces to complete the piece. We did not think much of it, until my brother came up to get my mother’s furniture out of storage and wanted to take the piece back to Georgia with him. We sent him over to Pender’s where David told him he had sold the piece. David never contacted us about selling the piece or gave us the proceeds from the consignment, he said he lost the paperwork. He also denied that he owed us for the foosball table. To this day, David has never contacted us about this even though we followed up with him several times. Lesson learned, no matter how honest and professional someone appears, get the paperwork! So in response to Mr. Paterson's review and Penders' response, we did call and apologize for the actions of Mr. Paterson but not the fact to this date he has never paid us for these items. We spoke with David Pender the day the incident took place, we were as surprised as Mr. Paterson was to discover that this had sold because we never were contacted about the sale. Not only did he never say we had abandoned the furniture,he stated he was on the way to the lake, could not find the sales information and would get back to us when he returned. It was Pender's responsibility to call us when the item sold and forward us the proceeds, and to also pay us for the foosball table. He never did any of this, he basically stole the proceeds from us along with a vintage foosball table that could of been sold.
Theresa Stephenson: Pender's does quality work for an affordable price. I highly recommend them!
Chuck Patterson: Our relative took some furniture to this guy for consignment, they had to search for parts to one of the pieces, a desk. A few weeks later the family went to check on the piece and Pender had sold it, never paying the owners. I'd think twice about dealing with these folks. A word to the wise. He admitted he'd sold the piece but said he was unable to remember to whom it was sold or the amount. I mean come on what kind of a business owner doesn't keep records?
Rita Krosner: We took some chairs to Pender’s to have the sear recovered and fixed and the chairs turned out better than perfect!! In fact I think they are better than than when we bought them brand new from Ethan Allen. Mr Pender was a joy to work with and did an absolutely fabulous job!!
Libby Guerrero: Pender's restored, repaired, and reupholstered several family pieces for me. Their craftsmanship was great as well as their customer service. I was able to customize the restoration to my liking. Now the pieces are beautiful, updated, and functional.
Gail Ferreira: David does beautiful and careful work. Whether it's refinishing furniture or cleaning fine art, the craftsmanship is top shelf.
Willam Green: David and his staff did an excellent job of refinishing our breakfast/casual dining table. They were super careful when loading it on their trailer and meticulous in putting it back together when they delivered it. It looks brand new, but we believe it’s now better than brand new because their process and the products they use are the best and the workmanship is of such high quality. David obviously sets the highest standards for himself and all his employees.
RD Moore: Great craftmanship! I could not be any happier with the work that was completed. Above and beyond with customer service as well. Highly recommend them to anyone.
G Thorne: Highly recommend Pender for furniture repair. They did a great job repairing my recliner.

Carolina Furniture Restoration: what do users think?
Brandon Foxx: This guy does great work, great reputation. "The wood guy" simply put.
Gary S.: This was our first time using Carolina Furniture Restoration, and we were entirely pleased with the process from start to finish. Brian and team came to our home to quote the refinishing of our 50+ year old table, picked it up, did the work and delivered the refinished table as promised. The results are great - the table looks beautiful, and the excellent work was done at a price that we believe was very fair. We will call Brian first with future refinishing needs. Thank you!
Sandra Baker: Brian is very professional, and very good at what he does refinishing damaged furniture. This is my second furniture problem brought to him. My 3 solid teakwood planters that have been in my hot/cold attic for 10 years and in dire need of structural repair, as well as refinishing the natural wood were returned as good as new. Highly recommend his expertise!
Rachel Palmer: We are very happy with our refurbished table from Brian! Honestly couldn’t believe it was the same table! He took our 1980s yellow wood table and turned it into this rustic yet modern piece. We will definitely be bringing more pieces to him, to work his magic on!
Linda Beatrice Fuller: I was looking forward to getting my antique wooden chair and high chair back from Carolina Furniture Restoration recently. I am so impressed by their work and how easy it is to work with these folks! Their work exceeded my expectations and was very fairly priced. I have several more antiques that need their skilled touch and i plan to take them to CFR in the future!
Susanne Langdon: I brought my husband’s childhood rocking chair to be repaired and restored as a gift for our grandson. It turned out beautifully. I was delighted to be able to give it to him on his 1st birthday. I highly recommend them.
Michael Townsend: Thus was the first time we went to this shop. The service was excellent and fast. They are very professional and knowledgeable in furniture repair. I had a leg come off a chair and they fixed it in minimum time right in my car! I highly recommend Carolina Furniture Repair without hesitation.
Precious Mitsch: Mike and Bryan were wonderful to work with. They took a family antique, a dresser from early to mid 1800's, and turned it into an heirloom to be treasured for generations to come. One of my Dad's last wishes is that I would put this back into its original condition after a designer painted it purple some years ago. It is now better than it was when I purchased at our family's auction over 33 years ago. A bit teary eyed.... OH... and they made sure they had it delivered by professionals on a rainy day when throwing it in the back of a pickup wasn't an option. Customer service is excellent. I am looking for other things for them to refinish!
Sherri Paul: We gave Brian and Mike a real challenge with our hundred plus year old dining room set. They came through beautifully. The set looks exceptional! They are communicative, friendly, and extremely talented. We are very happy!
Vance Eubanks: Never got a call back.
Carrie Tyler: We have a rattan sofa that was damaged from too much time in the sun. Brian did an amazing job restoring the wrapping, sanding, and restaining. It looks like new!! Thank you!
Gary Williams: CFR did a great job on our coffee table. He obviously took a lot of time and care to get everything looking exactly right. I'll definitely be using them in the future.
Janette Cunningham: Positive:Professionalism,Quality,Responsiveness,ValueThey refinished a dining room table and leaves that had been handed down to us. The end result is perfect! Thank you so much for your fast and professional work!
Cheryl Rice: Brian refinished a dining table for me. I recently lost my parents, and this was the table I grew up eating every meal on. He went above and beyond my expectations. Carolina Furniture Restoration is reasonably priced and professional. I'm not one to normally write a review, but this is well deserved. Thank you Brian for making my childhood dining table absolutely beautiful!!!!
A K: We had a bed frame made in Italy with matching bedroom furniture for 20+ years. Then one day two of the legs on the bed frame broke. We did not want to break up our set or buy a similar new bed frame (this one was not cheap). We found Brian and Carolina Furniture Restoration through a web search. Brian came out and did a free estimate. We gave Brian the go ahead. We are happy to report that our bed frame is back and as good as new. The parts he replaced were stained to an exact match. Brian's workmanship is very professional. Thanks Carolina Furniture Restoration!
David Lambert: They have done outstanding work on two of our projects. Most recent was a broken french mirror. Highly recommend!
Karen Tichy: I brought in a mirror I inherited from my Grandmother. It was severely damaged, and I was unsure if it could even be salvaged. Not only did they restore it to its original glory, but they even were able to repair the hand cut roses on the corners. Thank you for repairing not only my mirror, but a lot of family memories.
Cristy Thomsen: Great service! Owner was very responsive and service was performed quickly and reasonably priced. I highly recommend them! My service was a repair for squeeky sofa springs.
Jennafer Lyn Rae: Friendly, kind understanding people:)
Kelly Felten: I was so upset when I accidentally put a large gouge in one of my dining room table leaves. I went to google for help and found Brian at Carolina Furniture Restoration and was cautiously optimistic when he said he could fix it. I was blown away by what he did to fix the leaf. His workmanship is beautiful and the leaf looks as good as new. I don’t often leave reviews but I felt this service was above and beyond what I expected and on top of all that- what he charged was more than reasonable. Thank you for erasing my mistake Brian I am so grateful!!
Laura Bullas: I had an insurance claim thru my movers to get my 8 dining room chairs reupholstered and two couches cleaned. Once the items got to Brian's store, he promptly called me to discuss cloth options, and made himself available to meet to pick out the coverings. His guys picking up my furniture (Chauncey & John) and also returning it to me were extremely courteous and polite and did an awesome job taking care of my furniture and ensuring leaving a clean environment and checking to make sure I was happy. I would use them again in a heartbeat. Turn around time was great considering it was right in the middle of the holidays.

Mumford Restoration: what do users think?
Craig Davini: I thought the movers destroyed a chair beyond repair. Not so, Mumford made it new again. The best work ever. Thanks.
Henry Harris: We had our dining room table refinished and it looks beautiful! Great customer service as well.
Karen Johnson: I inherited a time-worn, dark and dreary landscape painting in a battered frame. Mumford removed the decades of grime and I was stunned to see the gorgeous work of art that had been hidden underneath. The 19th century frame was repaired so perfectly, it looked like it was brand new. Mumford's restoration experts are top quality and I would not hesitate to trust them with any restoration project.
Diane Olsen: Mumford Restoration did an amazing job on refinishing a piece of furniture as well as reupholstering a number of chairs for me. They are professional, reliable and have great talent. I couldn’t be happier with them and would highly recommend them!
Katherine Holoman: Many years ago when I purchased my 50s-vintage theatre sofa and art deco chairs — all in very rough condition — I was buying a dream; Mumford Restoration now has made that dream a reality. The team took those well-worn treasures and worked sheer unadulterated magic! Scuffed damaged wood became beautifully-polished chair spindles with just the right amount of sheen. Tired old cushions morphed into stunning velveteen seats with perfect piping. My vintage finds have lovingly been returned to their former glory thanks to Mumford’s artistry, historical integrity and imagination! I am ecstatic!
Victoria Gillis: Mumford has restored five of our family pieces of furniture and two antique lamps. The first piece I entrusted to them was a bed from a great-great-great aunt. Mid-1800s. In over a dozen pieces. Seriously. It had been stored in my sister’s basement for 40 years. They took the dozen or so pieces, had to make one missing side piece, and returned the bed to me looking better than I had ever seen it. They do remarkable work.
Lynne Sullivan: Mumford restorations was a wonderful experience. They exceeded my expectations in restoring a family dining table that was passed down to me. I'm looking forward to having them restore additional family heirlooms in the near future! I highly recommend Mumford Restoration.
Patti Simmerson: I received an antique dessert table from my first husband’s parents. When I needed to downsize, it was re-homed with a family member, but was damaged during transport. The table was returned to me when I once again had room for it. Mumford refurbished and refinished it and has it looking like new. They picked it up, serviced it, and returned it - it couldn’t have been easier. I would highly recommend their services!
L B: Great job quickly repairing our couch. (one of the slats broke in a 2-year old couch due to children jumping) Mumford repaired it quickly and strengthened the entire frame for a reasonable price. Great company! Excellent craftmenship.
Paul Greenwood: They did incredible work. An important oil painting had been literally torn into four pieces. They were able to sew the canvas back together, add Gesso over the seams, and repaint the seams to match perfectly. Most impressive.
Bryan Powers: My wife and I have used them to restore an antique chair and sofa. The work they do is beyond top notch! Never trust anyone else with your heirlooms. Mumford is the best!
Diane Michaud: We researched many places to restore my grandfather's safe. We couldn't find anyone to take on the project with the results we wanted., then we met Bernard. He is so knowledgeable, took the time to learn about us and the history of our piece and came up with a solution to distribute the weight of the 400 lb safe on a hardwood floor without damaging the floor. We are extremely happy with the results.
William Ransone: We were recently cleaning out an old house in eastern NC where my mother had lived for 70 years and discovered an oil painting we first thought was just a print. Turns out it was a family heirloom painted by an ancestor around 1875. It was dirty, dark, and had paint flaking off in numerous areas. The stain on the frame had also deteriorated and was coming off on your hands. So we took it to Mumford in Raleigh. They did an incredible job cleaning the canvas, matching the missing paint, restoring the frame, and putting it all back together while completely preserving the original antique look. The before-and-after photos are amazing! Their services are not cheap, but they are true master craftsmen in restoration and they know what they're doing!
Christel L: Mumford Restoration was awesome. They restored my mother's deteriorating antique frame beautifully. You can't even tell any work was done. They also took great care of the picture that was inside and returned it to the frame. I will choose Mumford Restoration again for any other restoration work.
Melinda Milone: I cannot express how happy your craftsmen made me! To take pieces of furniture from the 1930s and restore them to new is breathtaking! I've attached before and after pics.
Robin Scontsas: Mumford did an amazing job refinishing my dining room table. It looks more beautiful than when I purchased it new 30 years ago. They picked it up right away and delivered it ahead of the promised date. I highly recommend them for restoration and refinishing.
M McIntyre: I had an antique silver plated sugar and creamer on a tray that was badly tarnished. In fact, the silver plating on the sugar and creamer was completely eroded. Mumford Restoration did a fantastic job bringing the set back to life. The pieces were resilvered and the sugar and creamer had a brushed silver finished. Every aspect of dealing with Mumford was professional and customer oriented. Any questions were answered swiftly whether it was about shipping or the work to be done. Mumford Restoration is a quality business.
Cappy Hagman: Beautiful Work. Lovely people!
Michael F.: All I can say is WOW! I am really impressed with the outcome of our couch. Mumford rescued our red Lazy-Boy couch that was no longer being made in this same color. Mumford rebuilt the couch with all new faux leather (which might add has the same feel and touch as real leather, without the hangups of real leather. Our old couch was made of the bonded leather that had deteriorated after about 5 years. Shame on Lazy Boy for putting out a product like that. I will let you know that the restoration is not cheap, you could go out and buy a new Lazy boy couch, or whatever, but after the sitting in my new old couch with the new faux letter, and updated cushions, I am very happy with my investment. Thankful for your business!!!
Jen Sikes: Amazing! Mumford reupholstered a chaise beloved by our family and got it done on time, on budget, and with caring, personal service and friendly flexibility. Spectacular fabric choices and helpful guidance. I could not be happier!
Dave: These guys are great. Great work. Reasonable prices. Long-standing members of the community.

Capital Restoration: what do users think?
Leslie Ratliff: John did a fantastic job refinishing the top my walnut chest and the price was much better than I was quoted elsewhere. He was able to get an imperfection out of the top. After he delivered the chest he helped me with a couple of drawers that were sticking and and wouldn’t charge me. This is the second job John has done for me and I was very pleased that time also. John and his wife are very nice.
Bryan R Shipp: John recently repaired some holes in laminate wood flooring for us where other companies wanted to tear up the whole plank and a good portion of the rest of the floor to boot. The damaged area is now VERY hard to spot and is smooth underfoot. I couldn't be happier with the work John's done for us!
Gillian McCrea: A huge thank you to John at Capital Restoration for bringing our sentimental worn down furniture back to life. I gifted this for my mom’s 70th birthday and she was over the moon. He did an incredible job preserving the special parts of the furniture, strengthening each piece, restoring it and finishing. We were worried it had all been ruined beyond repair, but John works miracles!
Kevin Reinert: Capital Restoration has done a fantastic job for us, both professionally and personally. They are our go to for furniture restoration!!
Lynette Vidal: I purchased 4 secondhand bentwood chairs that were wobbly and huge screws were put on the seat, making it uncomfortable to sit on. John did everything he said he would at a very reasonable price. He put screws that were flush with the seat and fixed the wobble issue. He did the job in a week and the pick-up was easy. It's been 3 months since he did the job and I still love my chairs. in the photos, you can see the difference between the original screws and the news ones. Definitely recommend!
Joe Kirschner: John and Wes did a great job - very professional. They did exactly what they said they'd do, when they said they'd do it, for what they said it would cost. The restoration they did on my stair tread, the puppy chewed on it, came out fantastic - Wes is a real artist. They also resurfaced my kitchen table, it came out beautifully, better than new.
Peter Nicolaisen: John, the owner, with his craftsman Max came out to reinstall a Teak bookshelf with an included curio cabinet that had barely survived a move, made and installed a top and top-side cover to match the teak to give the whole piece a complete look. The piece consists of 30 individual pieces and the dimensions are 11 feet wide and 8 feet high. If you want first class work, then Capital Restoration with John and Max is the place to go.
Heather Scott: We had a burl wood bungalo five console table break at the seam. Capital Restoration was able to completely and perfectly restore the table. We didn’t think it could possibly look as good as it does!
Rita Landsiedel: OMG! Look no further. John is a master and artesian at his craft. Pieces of chewed wood removed by my puppy on fine cherry furniture, a corner step, plus worn out areas of cherry kitchen cabinets were restored as if nothing ever happened! Magic...thanks John.
Susan Sandler: Wonderful experience working with John who repaired mover damage on a number of furniture pieces and restored several older pieces. He is a great listener and artist who respects the history of the pieces and their meaning to the owner. The repair and restoration work brought everything back to "like new." I highly recommend: your furniture will be in good hands.
sharon selapack: We cannot say enough about John , his company and his work. He was so friendly, his prices were very reasonable and the quality of his work was absolutely outstanding. We found him by accident and we were impressed immediately. My Mother’s antique table was damaged during our move here and I was so upset. John totally restored it like new and I am so grateful. He even refinished the bottom shelf back to it’s original look. We enjoyed speaking to his family as well. They are all so friendly. Call them for sure if you need any work done.
Francine Reeves: John did a fabulous job restoring & refinishing my mid-century dining room table and chairs. The table top looks absolutely perfect with a beautiful wood grain and satiny finish. John re-glued all of the chairs so they are sturdy. The experience was made even better because John personally picked up and delivered the furniture to my house. The quality of his work is second to none! Highly recommend Capital Restoration!
Branch Out Delivery Inc.: Our company uses Capital Restoration whenever a customer experiences a damage to a wood piece. They are amazing! Every customer we return a piece to is happy. We highly recommend them!
Bart Swarr: Positive:Professionalism,Quality,Responsiveness,ValueAfter talking with other restoration businesses, I chose Capital Restoration to refinish my MCM coffee table and am very pleased with my decision. Capital Restoration did a great job at a great price within a very reasonable time frame. Capital Restoration is now my go to business for any future restoration needs.
Patti Taylor: Positive:Professionalism,Quality,ResponsivenessJohn did an excellent job fixing my Grandmothers piano after our movers broke it! It actually looks better than before! Thank you for the extra work you put in without being asked! Highly recommend!
Anne Wingler: John restored my mahogany dining room table that is a family heirloom, estimated to be about 200 years old. I couldn’t have been happier with the entire experience. I requested quotes from numerous businesses. John was one of two that asked to see the table in person and the only one that was willing to drive to me to see it (it’s rather large, heavy and difficult for me to move). He offered a fair quote, reasonable timeframe and didn’t pressure me for a decision. He picked up the table then COVID hit. He still finished the table within the estimated timeframe and delivered it without consequence. His workmanship is outstanding. My father says the table looks just as he remembers it as a little boy. John repaired several damages in addition to stripping and refinishing the surface. It’s absolutely beautiful. I highly recommend John!
Emily N.: Positive:Professionalism,Quality,Responsiveness,ValueJohn did a great job for an affordable price, and kept in contact with me the whole time. Will go to him for any other furniture repair/refinishing needs!
Brian Carter: Very happy with the recent resurface of a table...like new. Used many furniture repair services after many moves with military. Capital Restoration Is the best of them all and it’s not even close. Capital Restoration sets the standard for quality work and professionalism. John and his team are artists, all others are furniture repair. Trust Capital and you will be glad you did.
Jack Threadgill: I always knew that my grandmother's dining room table and chairs were quality furniture. Unfortunately, they had fallen into disrepair, and we couldn't afford the restoration until recently. John and his crew did an amazing job. It looks great. Previously, the table was wobbly and covered with stains. Now, it's a showpiece. I highly recommend Capital Restoration.
David V. (PureVelocity): John, was professional and pleasant to talk to, he didn't act rushed and was very meticulous in his repairs. We ordered a bedroom set that was custom made from walnut, we ordered a California King and received one bed rail for a queen and one for a California King; needless to say this didn't work for us. We were sent the proper one but it was damaged in many places compromising the integrity of the bed. John worked diligently for 3.5 hours to ensure I was satisfied and he is an interesting gentleman to talk to and bis background is Impressive, he is polite and, he is very friendly. I would recommend him Hands down and if I need anything in the future I would not hesitate to call him.
Wilson Fowler: John and his team at Capital Restoration are awesome! I recently broke off the wooden leg of one of my customer’s antique arm chairs and needed it fixed quickly. After calling around many places, there was no hesitation in my selection. Capital Restoration had the best price, quickest repair time, and overall best customer service. Although my repair was minor compared to many of his projects, John treated me as if I was his highest paying client taking the time to walk me through every step of the repair process. John even took extra steps to make sure this chair was not just aesthetically pleasing, but structurally sound. Capital Restoration went above and beyond my expectations. Thank you again Capital Restoration, I cannot recommend you guys enough and will be back every time!
