The job was completed within the timeframe. At the completion of the project Mike reviewed plant care recommendations, flower blooming time frames as we walked through the new landscaping. Stephanie Rodriguez-Wilkes: Mike was initially very responsive, punctual and provided a wonderful design plan for our front and back yard, however, the reason we considered using this company over others was because they advertise a credit for the design work if you decide to also use them for the landscaping and also based on the reviews. Well once I paid for the design services, he was then very non-responsive and our business seemed to no longer matter even though this was a good size job. I made several attempts via emails and phone calls and to this day still nothing. We even said we could break out the job and do some of it ourselves. To me that’s false advertising and I will not have the opportunity to receive that credit. As a previous business owner myself, follow up and responsiveness to existing or future customers should always be a priority even when you are busy. Unfortunately, I write this review so others will be aware of the credit situation. I’m glad to hear that others have had a wonderful experience. I just wish we had the same consideration and experience.

NANCY LASTRETO: I highly recommend Artworks Landscaping and Design. I recently purchased a home where the trees and bushes were planted in 1997. The yard looked harsh and overgrown. Mike designed a new landscape plan according to the tress, bushes and flowers that I in mind. Over the course of a couple of days his team of professionals came in and torn out all the old and planted the new and fresh variety of bushes and trees. The new design makes the house so much more desirable, with wonderful curb appeal. His team worked hard, always cleaning up after each phase of the project. I would not have known what plants to choose, how to arrange them, or even when to plant them. He took into consideration color, texture, and height and chose hearty indigenous plants to create a visually interesting landscape. He flew up on me and tailgated me the when he went to pass me he forced his way between me and the car in front, there was not a full car length as I was also accelerating. My 2 year old in the car. He continued to tailgate and bullying other drivers. I paced him at one point he was doing 72 in a 55 between James City and Havelock. It is sad when people are so selfish and do not think about other people and their familys.

Landen Jones: If I could leave 0 stars I would. This morning around 7:30 am I was followed by a white Chevy pickup truck for about a mile or so. I had a slight feeling that I was being followed by this white truck, so I decided to make a random turn. While doing so, I was approached by the driver of this white truck who proceeded to get angry because he was "cut off" in traffic. There was more than enough room for a car to fit, so no one was cut off. After that they proceeded to ride extremely close and swerve from side to side. I'm confused as to why TWO men, who were at least 35+, would be okay following a young female for over a mile to approach her. Not only that, but in a company vehicle. Once I told them that I would contact the company, they sped off. This company needs to better control their employees. I hope that this never happens to another person, because this could have easily ended bad. I am definitely shaken up by this series of events.

Russell Lacy: We have just completed the full process from initial design ideas and site analysis to completed build and have moved into our new house with an ADU (garage on the ground floor + one-bedroom apartment on the 2nd floor), and we couldn’t be happier with the design and build process. The finished product exceeds even our high expectations.From the beginning, our team at BuildSense was easy to work with and incredibly professional in every way. Communication was always crystal clear, and the team helped us navigate the tradeoffs so that we could build a house within our budget and prioritize the aspects that were most important to us.As with any construction project, we inevitably hit a few bumps along the road. BuildSense always handled these unforeseen challenges transparently and expeditiously. In the few minor instances when BuildSense had overlooked something, they immediately accepted and corrected the situation right away. Critical for our long-term happiness in our new home, the site lead (who was on site from 7 a.m. until the last worker went home every day) took care to maintain open, amicable relations with our new neighbors, mitigating the inevitable nuisance of having a construction site next door.Our project was about 75% complete as COVID-19 brought the world to a halt in March 2020. We were first impressed by how proactive the BuildSense crew was in acquiring materials and fixtures before shortages set in. More importantly, BuildSense kept our project moving forward while taking seriously the imperative to provide a safe work environment for their employees and trade partners. Although the pandemic inevitably slowed progress, their system for keeping crews lined up led to as safe and efficient a completion as we could have hoped for.BuildSense has a reputation for being expensive, and we could have certainly gotten a bid and a contract for a lower build price from any number of reputable builders. But we appreciated that price offered to us in our fixed build contract did not change in any way — apart from additions that we made — and firmly believe that this is the actual cost of getting a completed product of this quality. They took a great deal of time with us in the early planning months to price out every last item so that there was not a single surprise expense as we moved through the project.We valued their expertise in the more conspicuous aspects of green home building a green home such as solar panels, rainwater catchment, HVAC systems, and tankless water heaters. Since building green was a priority for us, we particularly appreciated their thoroughness in explaining the ecological implications of various other decisions, such as roofing, siding, flooring, and tiles.Since we have moved into our new home, pretty much every day we have had another occasion to appreciate the BuildSense team’s meticulous attention to detail and functionality. We are enjoying our house even more than we had anticipated and cannot recommend BuildSense highly enough.

I don't really know exactly what their magic approach is, but it works. My sense is that this is a group of people who have a clear mission and who love their work. It shows.And the BuildSense folks are fun to work with.Okay, I could go on and on.Listen, I have been involved with three other extensive renovation projects in the past 18 years--as I have helped members of my family upgrade their homes. All the previous experiences were creative and enjoyable in certain ways, but also fairly exhausting and time consuming. None of these previous projects stayed on budget. So I do have a context for comparison. BuildSense ranks at the top. If I were grading them, I would give them an A+.

Hope Colen: If you enjoy feeling frustrated, irritated and having them speak to you and your subs in condescending ways, then hire this firm. They are very expensive and they are committed to doing things their way. We hired this firm to design and build our future house and terminated the contract midway through the design period so this review only pertains to their design capabilities. We are grateful they are not building our house, but we can not comment on their construction/build abilities. I wish we had done more research as we have come to learn that we are not the only dissatisfied client.
