    4worldlovers: Diana Coidan is a recognized pastelist with Signature memberships in the Pastel Society of America, Pastel Society of NC, and Southeastern Pastel Society. She has been working with this lush, vivid color, versatile medium for the past 25 years. As a multi-media artist, the essence of pastels is the aesthetic experience of drawing which she is drawn to.

    Non-painters are not aware that the main tools creating pastels are your FINGERS. The use of brushes, solvents, etc. is VOID. Using a variety of strokes with her fingers astonishes the public as well as other artists not familiar with this medium, and they immediately become fascinated by what is being created.

    Come see how she approaches the pastel painting, as “Pastels in progress go through several ugly stages before they become things of beauty.” The name pastel comes from the French word “pastiche” which means paste, and all the wonderful colorful sticks held in her hands are just powered pigment, mixed with a little water and a special binder ground into paste which is the ideal painting and drawing medium because no equipment and fancy tools are necessary. She lets her “Fingers go walking” over pastel paper.
