Lake Benson Boat House: what do users think?
Vitaliy Matkovskyy: Can't trust these people! My fishing line was cut at the dock by rental people and old employee after allowing me to fish from the dock on Sunday morning !They took my scissors to cut my line while I was walking back to my fishing pole, as a returning kayak people tangled my line.It would have been OKAY if they did not lie to me in my face about the whole incident.
Matthew Stewart: Good people, nice jon boats, great outdoors. Perfect for dads, moms, dates and good times. Get a trolling motor and dark colored worms.
Steven Hoggard: Hours are inconsistent. Friday,Saturday, and Sunday 7 to 1. They even close earlier than 1.
Michelle Snyder: Ridiculous that the boathouse isn’t open during the week. Not everyone wants to kayak during the weekend. If thats the case we should be allowed to put our own kayaks in the water.
Andrew Kimball: We rented a Jon boat with a trolling motor for the day, when we got about half way across the lake the motor went bad and we had to row all the way back, when we got back I asked if we could get some of the money back as we had only been on the water for 30 minutes max. The older guy that runs it just kept saying "let me check the motor". He checked the motor and told us it was burnt up and offered us another boat but we were way to tired to go out again after rowing half way across the lake. While we were there the older guy and one of the employees got into a little argument over $2 that had been misplaced. Overall I would not recommend going here or renting a boat from here.
Amanda: I've kayaked at Lake Benson more than anywhere else in the area. The equipment is not top notch but for the price and casual environment I can't complain. The staff has always been friendly and reasonable. Parking can be tight and boats are first come first serve. Due to the size and only small boats allowed the lake perfect for a relaxing kayak hour or two.
Christopher S: One paddle!!! SMH, Rented a boat for 3 hours battery died after 2. Next time I'm bringing the battery charger
Christopher Williams: Inexpensive and close to home. Had a good time.
Tony Grant: Highly disappointed! Called yesterday and asked if open today(Monday .. memorial day) drove over a hour.. just to find the gate locked.. WTH?
Luke S: Great fun, peaceful lake, inexpensive kayak and canoe rentals.
LeslieAnn Klatt: BATTERIES NEED REPLACING ! Rented a John boat and got out to the middle of the lake and the motor died . My husband checked and nothing was caught on it . Needless to say we got quite a workout trying to get it back with one paddle. We called the number on the back of the seat and the boat that would come and bring you a charged battery with didn’t work either. I think we will stick to kayaks from now on . No offer of a refund !😳 If you must get a John Boat I would ask if their back up boat runs!!!!
Tyler Dobson: So I’ve been wanting to try out the boathouse for awhile. I’m a fisherman and I heard good reviews so I thought I would try it out. I rented a Jon boat with trolling motor. I left the dock and apparently my motor wasn’t charged good and it wouldn’t push like I thought. So then I got pushed into the moss on the side and it clogged up my motor. I called the boathouse and got no one. I was close enough to yell to another local fisherman and he came over to tow me out. He got me on open water and my motor worked. I went to another part of the lake and it died this time and the button broke to lift the motor out of water to clear the moss. I called the boathouse because I was stuck. They told me they didn’t have a motor to come get me to tow me back. I literally had to paddle all the way back to the dock. Then to top it off they wouldn’t give me my money back for the 2 hrs I spend dealing with BOAT problems. Needless to say want be fishing here again. To think I was trying to help out a local business but yet they don’t even help me. I never write reviews but this was just to bad of an experience not to.
Benjamin Arroyo: Big fish in it
destinee Jenkins: ok so granted it was my first time kayaking but i wanted the experience. As im trying to get out of the kayak theres no shore so i have to use my arm to pull my body up on the deck (im not the strongest better yet I DONT WORKOUT) but i still wanted to kayak for the experience so naturally my weakness was getting out the boat! the attendant (young fellow) vaguely attempts to help me as my leg is hanging and everything is slipping. Not the best experience but i will say this young man did save my phone from dropping!
ROB B: You know i love my fishing so it was my first time out their it was OK not to much biting so we will have to see if I want to take that ride again but keep a lookout for my post.... PEACE
Chelsea Adams-Perez: Rented a motorized Jon boat out here and had a fun time. While I'm from the coast, it was my first time driving this style of boat and the other boaters in the area were respectful of that. The battery ran really weak after a bit, but we could still coast through the water.Overall, the experience was relaxing and I'd rent here again. I only wish that they allowed pets because my dog would have a blast riding with me!
kids moore: Same exact thing happened to me in an hour I was out there I got stuck and then he brought me a new battery and then blamed it on Mark on the motor then when I came back they said that their batteries are really bad I need to be replaced so if you go out there please be careful you will get stuck in the hot sun I will be there all the time boating if they have proper batteries
Kimberly Battle: My daughter and I rented one of their motorized jon boats today. Within an hour of renting the boat, the motor stopped working - and we had to call the boat house to ask them to bring a charged replacement battery. When the guy arrives, he says "oh ... I think there is just some muk on the propeller ... I don't think you need a battery". (He never even checked to see if the motor was working or not). Then two guys in another boat about 200 yards behind us yell "Hey ... our battery is dead too". So instead of giving us the charged battery that he brought with him, he takes that battery and immediately gives it to the two men behind us. We were down near the dam, so we motion to the guy as he is leaving and say "Hey ... we still can't move" and then he yells back to us as if we are bothering him "Yea ... I'll get you another battery when I come back" 👀 👀 👀But WE were the ones that called you out here in the first place, and you just gave the battery that should have gone to us - to someone else. Wonder why ??? 🤔🤔🤔At any rate, we won't be going back there again. The staff was rude, UNfriendly and UNhelpful. They could stand to take a class in "customer service" for ALL people.
Sarah Piersanti: Lake benson boat house denied my family and I boat rental stating that dogs including my service animal were not permitted on their boats. This violates title III of the Americans with disabilities act as well as NC statute which protects service animals as well as animals in training to be denied access. For anyone with disabilities who have service animals, be aware that the boat house will try to justify this illegal policy. I’m shocked and my family is really disappointed to have driven a half hour to put up with this nonsense.
Rudy: Awesome
Steve Steve: I love this place. Rent a boat for $8 an hour. Fishing is hit or miss.

Frog Hollow Outdoors: what do users think?
Elle Cross: Frog Hollow has been helping us with a paddle board repair. They have done an extremely thorough job identifying the problem and possible solutions and communicating their findings with us. They are a company with integrity and professionalism and I would highly recommend them for your outdoor recreation needs.
Jennifer Ludwick: Took an Intro to Kayak class with instructor Rainbow and couldn’t be happier. I came in a bit unsure of kayaking and left feeling so comfortable and confident in my beginner abilities that I signed up for a night paddle lake tour. Prices are great also. Highly recommend.
Barb J: The guided Sunset Paddle this week was wonderful! Everything about this outfitter was great: the nice person on the phone who handled reservations, the info available on their website and provided by email, the ease of parking at the boat launch, and the excellent help from guides Anna and Banks. Our group included a novice kayaker and Banks made sure we were all safe and had a great evening on the water. Anna was delightful and knowledgeable. It was a thrill to see a glorious sunset, a bald eagle, and two osprey nests with young ospreys in the nests, and to hear the cricket frogs.
Janet Clarke: Awesome for group outings! I've been on a few Frog Hollow kayaking and stand up paddleboard excursions, and they've all been wonderful. It's like going on a mini-vacation while staying close to home. Banks does a great job with providing safety rules and skills instructions, and he's always made sure that everyone in the group is comfortable out on the water and that no one strays too far or gets left behind. I've enjoying being introduced to different launch spots on Falls and Jordan Lakes, and the SUP tours were great because we were able to try different board styles and choose SUPs that matched our skill levels. If you need some time on the water but don't know how to get started, I highly recommend contacting Frog Hollow!
Maria Fadri: Magnificent. If you do any paddling in the triangle, or need lessons, come to Frog Hollow. Just spent an evening paddling in the sunset, waiting for moonrise, and watching fireworks, fish, and birds. Probably one of the best experiences I have had on the water ever.
Leanna Murphy: We had a fantastic experience with Frog Hollow Outdoors today kayaking on the Eno, Flat and Neuse Rivers. What a joy to be out on the water! And we saw hawks and blue herons; it was so peaceful and lovely in the breeze. Banks and his team are super careful with social distancing, masks at pick-up/drop-off and all of the equipment is sanitized and used by one person a day. We are signed up for their Sunset Paddle, the Paddle Under the Stars (with the Moorehead Planetarium) and the Night Paddles in the coming weeks. What professionals! And the price is right -- $30-$40/person for a few hours on the water. We highly recommend them!
Heather Tyler: Just used Frog Hollow for kayaking instruction for a group of 12/13 year old girls and moms. Banks was wonderful, patient and flexible. They were able to accommodate a wide range of sizes with safe equipment and excellent instruction. We've already booked another event with them!
Nick B: I recently took the Intro to Kayak class. Jordan was the instructor. He did a great job of reviewing some kayaking basics about the boat, gear, and so forth. And then instructed us in paddling on dry land. So, it was over an hour till we got in the water, but all the prep was well worth every moment. Once on the water, his patient, encouraging instruction continued. Since there were only two students (me and one other), the class took just under 3 hours. It was a great experience, really whetting my appetite for more kayaking!
Daniel Beyer: Fantastic people who love the outdoors and are great teachers
Elizabeth Ruben: My family and I have taken two trips with Frog Hollow this year. The first was a guided kayak tour through the three rivers area. It was absolutely amazing and showed me a paradise in my own backyard that I never knew existed. We all loved it.That trip motivated us to take a self-guided all day trip. Essentially, we rented the kayaks/canoes for the day in Falls Lake. It was absolutely lovely! We saw a bald eagle, a blue heron, and egrets. We saw an osprey nest (but we didn't see the osprey. Maybe they were on the nest? Not sure.) Then we paddled around for a bit, stopped for lunch, and explored another area after lunch. It was a great way to get back into nature, spend some great quality time, and reset. The folks at Frog Hollow are amazingly nice and helpful. I can't recommend them more highly.
Laura Rezac: I have been participating in Frog Hollow events for years. I first got to know them through seeking individual kayaking instruction for myself, and since then have trusted them to lead several school-age groups on kayaking trips and river cleanups. Their instructors have been, without fail, some of the most generous, capable, and knowledgeable people I've paddled with in my life on the water. I credit their teaching and example with laying the foundations for years of fun, safe trips on the water. If you are looking for paddling instruction, or for someone to lead a group of folks on their first (or 50th) paddling trip, I highly recommend Frog Hollow!
Alex Lemon: Awesome inclusive culture. Great place for participants of all ages and backgrounds offering everything from 55+ classes to camps for young kids. Knowledgeable guides and relaxed atmosphere gave me peace of mind while exploring with them. Best place for guided outdoor recreation in the triangle area by far.
R Cardone: Great camps for the kids. Friendly and helpful counselors.
Andrew McGuffin: Frog Hollow LLC requires participants to sign a blanket waiver of all liability to participate in its activities. This is not an assumption of risk agreement whereby participants merely acknowledge and assume the risks inherent in its outdoor activities. No, they insist participants indemnify -- and even defend -- Frog Hollow LLC regardless of whether Frog Hollow was grossly negligent or even willful. If, for example, Frog Hollow knowingly permits a staffer with his license revoked to drive participants in a Frog Hollow van while dead drunk, and, thereby, injures or kills these participants, Frog Hollow's waiver would indemnify it, even if FH, LLC knew he had done the same numerous times in the past. Similarly, if a FH, LLC staffer were to get angry at a participant and willfully act in a grossly dangerous manner that consequently injured that participant, the waiver would indemnify FH, LLC. If a FH, LLC staffer assaults or batters a participant, FH, LLC is indemnified. The range of possible or potential extreme examples is boundless, and FH, LLC wants absolute indemnification in all instances without exception. Should FH, LLC wish for participants to assume those risks inherent in vigorous outdoor activities such as the risk of drowning in a river in which their canoe capsizes because a guide made a judgment error, that's fine. Instead, FH, LLC asks participants to allow it to do its business as it pleases without any consequence whatsoever: No accountability, no responsibility and no professionalism. Unacceptable.
Jacob Matheny: It’s gud.
Cocoa Cinnamon: Such a great local business. We got out on the Eno and Flat rivers last night and it was so relaxing...something we need to do more. Banks and his team are kind, knowledgeable and excellent with providing an amazing experience. We've done the family paddle and the paddle under the stars and both were outstanding for different reasons.
Michael Feigin: They provide the best paddling and other outdoor trips.
zach mcelhaney: Not open 24 hours me and my wife Noah drive out here at 3:36, it took us 50 days and I missed my Grandpa's funeral. They were closed. Lobotomy
Maithry T: Took my parents, who are visiting me from India, here for thier first adventurous paddle boating. This was the highlight of their trip (adventurous side). It was the first time paddle boating for my parents. The instructors and the trainee instructors were extremely great. Many many thanks to Banks and his entire group for making this a most memorable moment for us. They also explained a lot about Eno River and the social work they do. Extremely Nobel. We are very thankful to this group for their patience and kindness.Cheers,Maithry
Viv Hazelrigg: Amazing camps. Focused on everything important. Hydrating, being safe, having fun, etc.Great supplies too.
