Roshmi V: My husband and I hired Michelle as our Doula. She is very easy to talk with and is quick to respond to any questions/concerns we have. During my admission to the hospital, she was in constant touch with my husband and me. She was with me at the hospital throughout my labor. It made a huge difference in my birth experience in a positive manner. I truly appreciate her calm and composed manner during that stressful time which helped me to stay focused and calm. I would highly recommend Michelle's Doula services.
emily newcity: Michelle was the greatest. I couldn’t have done it without her. She stuck through and long and stressful induction and when I needed her most she was always there with guidance, love and tenacity. She assisted and advocated for me and was a great support to my partner as well, as we are both first time parents. Not only do I highly recommend her, I will have all my other babies doula-ed by her. Not only was she an exceptional doula but she took the most incredible birth photos which were so much more than I could have ever hoped for. I am forever grateful for her help and love during the most difficult and beautiful time of my life. You and your baby will be so lucky to have her by your side on your big day. I will always thank the stars for leading me to By the Moon, and Michelle 💕
Jennifer Hansley: Michelle led me through a 27 hour labor which ended in a successful VBAC!! Just being with us through such an ordeal would have been good, but she had awesome advice and helpful tools that kept us going!
Anna J Surratt: Fantastic support for both mother and father to achieve a VBAC!!!With my first child, I had a 42 hour labor that ended in an unplanned Cesarean. The experience left me feeling defeated and full of doubt. I knew when we got pregnant again that I needed my experience to be different. Michelle brings a wealth of experience to the table and provided us with education, coping tools, and resources before we were even into our 3rd trimester. She was a great sounding board for me when I became overwhelmed with pressure from my providers to do things that weren't in my plan. During our birth, Michelle provided amazing support to both my husband and myself. Because Michelle was there to support me, my husband was able to stay nourished and rested so he could be with our daughter when she was unexpectedly taken to the NICU for breathing issues. Without her support, I know our birth would not have gone as smoothly as it did. If you're going for a VBAC or just hoping to achieve your own ideal birth experience - Michelle will provide the the calming support and reassurance you need!
Cameron Moccari: Michelle was absolutely wonderful with our first birth - so much so that we decided to use her for our next two. She has an incredibly calming presence, and is an invaluable advocate throughout the process - both before, during, and after the birth.
Chrisine Brown: Michelle was an incredible resource for my husband and me. When we met her for the first time, her calm demeanor and her positive attitude towards birth made us feel connected and happy to work with her for such an important moment in our lives. She was easily accessible prior to the birth for questions. She was open to the type of labor we wanted and told us she's supported many types of births. It felt good to know that, because you can't always plan for how a birth will unfold. During labor, she was invaluable for us. This was our first delivery, so having her with us at home made us confident we left for the hospital at the right time! The hip compressions she and my husband did were exactly what I needed to help me have a non-medicated labor and birth (which had been my hope). She and my husband were a good team, and it helped to have her focus and calm when things felt overwhelming. Knowing what was normal and hearing that I could do this might seem small, but when everything is stripped away in labor, it was vital for me to have that to come back to. It let me be in the moment and refocus when things felt overwhelming, especially during transitions. After our daughter arrived, she captured amazing photos of our first moments as a family of 3. She helps us get our daughter into the world healthy and happy. I would highly recommend her!
Amanda Brennan: For the birth of our second child I knew I wanted a doula to support my husband and I. After some research, I found Michelle. We had an informal meeting to get to know each other and I knew she would be great for me - Michelle’s personality just clicked with mine. Michelle provided reading materials regarding pregnancy, labor and delivery, and post baby care. She also came to our home to meet my husband and spend some time understanding how we interact. Near the end of my pregnancy I texted Michelle several times and always received a timely response, even to non urgent items. When I went into labor, Michelle got herself ready quickly to meet us at the hospital. Though I had a very quick and easy delivery, we felt extremely supported by Michelle. The thing I remember most about delivery is her telling me to allow my baby to drop down. Her words were encouraging and calming and I felt I was able to let my body relax to deliver my baby. Michelle also conducted a postpartum visit to check in our baby and our family. The entire experience was exactly what I hoped for. We don’t plan on more children but if things change, I will work with Michelle again. We would highly recommend her to any couple looking to feel empowered and in control of their pregnancy and their labor and delivery experience!!!
Laura Jacobs: We used Michelle's doula services for the births of both of our daughters. She provided strong emotional support as well as guidance on choices we could make during each experience. Her hip massage was invaluable during both natural labors, especially during the transition phases. My wife's first labor was quite fast (at least the part that occurred at the hospital) and while Michelle was only there for a few hours, her expertise and support was worth every penny. She knew when it was time for her to push (even when my wife didn't!) and politely insisted to the midwife that the time had come, even when the midwife was in disbelief. My wife's second labor was slower and having Michelle there for longer really helped get us through the long hours of contractions. Having Michelle attend both births allowed us to truly focus on the incredible experiences as a couple and we felt supported by her every step of the way. She advocated for our birth plans and let us relax and focus on welcoming our children into the world. We also opted to have her provide private birthing classes for us during my wife's first pregnancy. These were conducted in the comfort of our own home and really helped prepare us for the amazing experience we were about to have. We recommend Michelle's services wholeheartedly!

Labor Doula Company, LLC: what do users think?
Jamie Poe: Jamie was awesome! She was very knowledgeable and helpful! I would absolutely recommend her! She was a lifesaver to me during my delivery! I really can’t thank her enough for all she did!
anna kelly: Jamie was easily accessible by phone and text before, during, and after the delivery of our little guy. She acknowledged and made me feel validated about concerns that I had and then either educated me about my concern or helped me find a solution to solve my issue. Little bud was later arriving than anticipated and Jamie was very supportive through the last few days of anticipation, impatience, exhaustion, and discomfort. I began laboring at home on Saturday afternoon and by Sunday afternoon things had started picking up in frequency and intensity. Jamie was a calming and supportive presence by phone throughout, and when we headed to the hospital she met us there with her “kit.” Her kit was full of lovely goodies that enhanced the atmosphere of our labor room, with colorful lights and essential oils and good vibes all over the place. I began to have regrets about no meds when I began to transition (I believe an actual quote was “Jesus god give me drugs”). Jamie encouraged me through the waves of regret and supported my body based on both her intuition, knowledge of body mechanics, and my requests. I achieved my goal of delivering our little buddy without pharmacological intervention thanks in large part to Jamie’s loving and strong presence in the delivery room. I would absolutely employ her services if we became pregnant again.
Brooks Hester: Jamie is the absolute best and worth every penny. My wife had a long and constantly changing pregnancy and birth and Jamie was there for us every step of the way. She’s very knowledgeable, patient, calm, the list goes on and on. She helped empower us to make the best decisions for us and always helped prioritize our wishes while balancing what the doctors were wanting to do! We absolutely cannot recommend her enough! In the event we have more kids, Jamie is the first person we’d call!
sravanthi gudapudi: Jamie is incredible. Won’t be able to forget the day when i felt like the re-birth during my second delivering. She boasted my confidence and was everything what i wanted and needed. Some people make a remarkable impression, so we won’t be able to forget them through out the life. Jamie is one such person in my life. She is absolutely amazing and BEST at her profession.
Elizabeth Walsh: My husband and I were so excited to work with Jamie as a doula for our first pregnancy. We were pregnant during the pandemic and working with Jamie gave me such reassurance from day 1. Her years of experience as an L&D nurse and years of patient advocacy make her the perfect person to assist women on their journey through birth. She listened to my wishes and checked in with me regularly. She was always available to answer questions and provide support when needed. I had a very painful last month and she provided so much relief and understanding at a time when I needed gentle validation and experienced support. She helped me with stretches, pressure points, essential oils, and positions to find some relief and help get my baby in a good position. Our birth did not go as planned at all which she prepared me for and was right by my side to re-explain as the plan shifted. Labor is a scary time and having an unmedicated labor is quite a test. Jamie could read my body language even when I couldn't verbalize and helped me through contractions and supported my unmedicated approach. She supported my husband as well! I had complications that were out of everyone's control due to my uterine shape and Jamie stayed by my side every minute. I will absolutely work with Jamie again on my next pregnancy!!
William Payne: We haven’t even had our daughter yet, but Jamie has been very helpful in assisting us with information and what to expect. She’ll go above and beyond to make sure we are aware the whole process.
Erik DiGiacomo: Jamie was absolutely incredible! From the moment she walked into our hospital room she was everything we wanted AND needed. She had these cute lights to help make the room more relaxing and spa like. She helped my wife with different stretches when she was in labor to try and get her more comfortable, and let her know when it was time to get up and move around. As a guy and it being our first child, I really didn't know what to expect. Having Jamie there made it feel like she was a part of our team, and it was beyond helpful. I couldn't imagine going through what we went through without her. Anybody looking for a doula needs to reach out to Jamie, she was perfect!
Chris T: Jamie is a great nurse, and that’s coming from another nurse. She helped my wife bring our 3rd girl into this world. She is great at what she does and she has been doing it for years. She has definitely found her calling. Anyone would love to have Jamie in their corner during labor. It would be just like having your friend at your side. Thanks Jamie.
Mari V: One of the BEST Labor and Delivery Nurses that I know and the kind of woman you'd want as your Doula!!

Emerald Doulas, LLC: what do users think?
Ally Newman: The entire Emerald Doula team was absolutely fantastic - if you are browsing the internet right now (like I was about 8 months ago) looking for doula support, pick up the phone and call these wonderful folks ASAP!! My partner and I felt supported from day one. Our doulas (Meredith and Shauna) were some of the kindest, most encouraging, and helpful individuals we have ever met. We truly feel that our daughter's birth went so smoothly was because of them. I cannot sing their praises enough. We also enjoyed the community meetings that were provided free of cost - lots of great information for first time parents! We look forward to working with the Em Do team again for our next one :)
Falon Simpson: I worked with EmDo leading up to the birth of my daughter and during her labor and delivery at Duke Regional Hospital. I very much appreciated having support during pregnancy and delivery for whatever would unfold and very much felt supported every time I spoke with my doula team. We were able to meet in person before the birth to help aid my level of comfort, which helped me feel calm and comforted. Shauna was a big help to me during the birth of my daughter and I have no regrets recommending her to be a part of your doula team if you want a calm and reassuring presence to help guide you through labor and delivery. Thanks again, ladies!
Jillian Buckley: Emerald Doulas came highly, almost exclusively recommended to me when I was pregnant, and now I see why -- our experience with EmDo is difficult to put words to for its enormity, how deeply their support changed my pregnancy, labor, and postpartum periods. We worked with Abigail and Shauna, who answered all of my (very specific + anxious) questions during pregnancy, had wonderful and invaluable senses of humor, and felt like close, wise friends during a time that company and wisdom felt like the most important things. And I can't imagine how anyone has a baby without Abigail, whose instincts are otherworldly, and whose attention and support made my labor exactly what I hoped it might be: as gentle as possible, bedrocked by community, and far from lonely. My husband and I would hire her again & again & again, and feel very lucky to be a part of the EmDo family.
Alejandro Peña: Our experience with Emerald Doulas was absolutely fantastic, we recommend their services as highly as possible. As a group, they are incredibly organized and diligent, very knowledgeable, kind, and supportive. Individually, we worked with Isabel and Abigail who both went above and beyond to help and make us feel supported. Abigail, who was with us during both of our sons' labor, made all the difference. We are both immigrants in the US and have no family around. Abigail's warmth and knowledge made us feel cared for and gave us the confidence we needed to make decisions and navigate the whole process, from the water breaking all the way to the postpartum room. Abigail's emphatic and tactful help in liaising with nurses and midwives during labor was key for us to be able to express our needs and wishes, and for these to be respected without any inconveniences. Having Abigail as a postpartum doula was also a game changer. During this particularly sensitive time for our family, her proactive, resourceful, and committed support was exactly what we needed. We are so happy we found EmDo!
Abi Bissette: I so appreciated the support I got from my doulas at Emerald Doulas during the birth of my first child! They were knowledgeable, empowering and kind. When my induction was not progressing quickly enough, one of my doulas came and guided me through a series of exercises that I honestly think got me into active labor. When I was struggling with starting breastfeeding during my first week postpartum, they were empathetic and encouraging. Couldn't recommend them enough!
Rachel Damiani: We had an amazing experience with Emerald Doulas! Sybil has such a versatile skillset and calm approach. She helped me navigate the postpartum period as a new mom, and our baby boy was so at ease with her. After Sybil’s afternoons with us, the whole family felt recharged. Highly recommend!
Liz Warren: We had the best experience with Emerald Doulas from the first time we spoke with Melanie about the whole process, to the community prenatal meetings, birthing class with Vanessa, and having Allie and Erika as our doulas. They were such a great support system throughout my pregnancy as this was our first baby. They were always there to answer any questions of mine or my husband's, and Allie had such a calming presence during my labor and delivery. She was very knowledgeable and made sure we understood everything going on and helped us communicate with our nurses and doctors during more intense moments. I would highly recommend Allie and Erika to anyone needing a doula.
Sandra Beth Brown: If you are considering going with Emerald Doulas do it! I can't imagine going through pregnancy and birth without them! The experience was highly personalized, starting with a call from one of the owners, Melanie, in response to my initial inquiry. We spoke for over an hour- she was excited to get to know me and seems to understand immediately what kind of birth experience I was hoping for. Once I partnered with them I was assigned a team of two doulas so I could get to know both of them throughout my pregnancy (rather than having a "back up" person I didn't know well potentially attending my birth). Erin and Michelle were both amazing! They started a group text immediately and were available at any time for questions and support. This included helping to access evidence based articles on various topics, which was super helpful. They also provided tips for the hospital stay, including a packing list, and went over my birth preferences in detail. They helped me think through what to ask my provider ahead of time to have the best chance of my birth preferences being honored. My husband and I took the monthly classes provided as part of signing with EmDo and it was a great way to get to know other couples and introduce us to various topics in a relaxed, nonjudgemental, and positive way. Our parents also enjoyed a separate class ("Modern Grandparents"), which gave a great update on various topics of baby care. The day of my birth, my doulas were incredible. They kept in touch with me constantly from the first sign of labor. Michelle attended the birth and made the room feel much more welcoming with Christmas lights and an infuser. She helped me get into various different positions to help labor progress and showed my husband how to help as well. I appreciated the emphasis that was also placed on his well-being. I also rented a TENS unit from EmDo that was super helpful for pain management. Although my birth wasn't exactly as I had hoped it would be, I was still really happy with the experience overall. In the days and weeks after, my doulas continued to check in with me and I started taking advantage of the free virtual support groups. I definitely plan to hire EmDo again for any future pregnancies!—Updating after second birth—My first birth with EmDo was so positive I booked them for my second as soon as I found out I was pregnant, long before we even told our families!Melanie and Vanessa were a dream team. They checked in frequently to get to know me and my husband and provide encouragement and resources. My two hospital births were very different- one 48 hrs with pitocin and an epidural, the other 5hrs, unmedicated. I treasure both as empowering experiences where I felt loved and supported the entire time. In my second birth, I don’t know how I would’ve coped with such an intense, rapid labor without Melanie coaching me through contractions, especially while my husband was tied up madly trying to find someone to watch our toddler last minute!Melanie and Vanessa reviewed my first birth, and preferences for the second, in detail. They tailored their support to my personality and goals. EmDo again rented me a TENS unit, which was clutch for pain management.Hiring EmDo was the best investment we made for both pregnancies!
Janet Russell: Emerald Doulas gave me the most peaceful birth experience I could have asked for! I have told every friend who will listen about then and are quick to recommend them to any pregnant friend or family member. If we choose to have another baby I will ABSOLUTELY be coming back to them for support!
Julie Wesp: I am so glad that we worked with Emerald Doulas for the birth of our first child. We are a bilingual family and were excited to work with Vanessa and Delmar as our doula team to ensure that there would be at least one Spanish speaker at the birth. They were always quick to respond to questions that we had and would send resources for us to think about throughout the pregnancy. The community prenatal meetings were also a great chance to learn more on topics that didn't seem to be covered in other courses (like helping pets adjust to life with baby) and meet other new parents in a respectful and diverse environment. Delmar ended up being the doula present at our birth and she is incredibly knowledgeable with a lot of experience. They helped with adjusting to different birthing positions and kept a sense of calm that we wanted for our natural birth. Our doulas continue to be a great source of information in the postpartum period and connect us with local resources and other new parents. I highly recommend EmDo, you won't regret it!
Sree Pattabiraman: Just saying thank you doesn't seem enough when we think about the care provided by the doulas at Emerald Doulas, prenatal, during birth, and postpartum.Being first time parents, my spouse and I had various questions and concerns, and hiring EmDo is easily one of the best decisions we have made in our lives. Before we even chose Abigail and Shauna to be our birth doulas, Melanie was thorough in walking us through the process and provided us sufficient time to make our decision. My pregnancy and birth experience was empowered by the care provided by Abigail and Shuana. Both Abigail and Shuana were a wealth of knowledge and provided so much evidence-based guidance for us during pregnancy.Abigail was on-call when I called her thinking my water had released, and her presence and support made such a huge difference. Shauna was with us at the hospital when we had our baby, and she ensured that she provided utmost care and support to us and made our birth experience so enriching. The way she created a calming environment and cheered on me through each surge, I will forever be grateful for her support and encouragement. Even after we had our baby, Abigail and Shuana continue to check-in on us, two months postpartum. Our postpartum doula, Jenna also provided so much support, especially during the initial few weeks as parents. From answering our lactation questions to helping us organize our nursery, she is a rockstar in every sense. She makes the most delicious energy balls and I continue to gorge on them during all the late night feeds and pumping. She is so gentle, kind, and thoughtful with the baby and we wouldn't think twice before recommending her to anyone.I would be remiss if I didn't mention Vanessa, who provided the childbirth education and helped encapsulate my placenta. She was so patient in answering so many of our questions during the childbirth education class that helped us tremendously to prepare ourselves for labor and postpartum.Overall, it wouldn't be an exaggeration to state that EmDo folks made our pregnancy and childbirth experience the one we had hoped to have and beyond. Thank you EmDo for the work you are doing and the community you are building. It will certainly help enrich the lives of so many people like us!
C. J. Cardina: Hiring Emerald Doulas was one of the best things we did for our first pregnancy! Our amazing doulas Shauna and Erika were so responsive, kind, warm, helpful, and supportive for months on end. Shauna spent 8 hours with us at the hospital and she did so much for us. We also really benefitted from the free monthly webinars and support groups that EmDo offers. We urge new parents-to-be to join this wonderful community!
Ruth Goldstein: We LOVE Emerald Doulas. Melanie and Vanessa run the administration with love and care. The business structure is one that my partner and I have come to appreciate even more after entering the world of day care. Meeting with Melanie, we felt confident about our Emerald Package. Our zoom meet and greets with our birth doulas, Erika and Allie was a great way to begin our journey. And we are still in contact! We couldn't imagine our birth experience without them. It just so happened that Erika attended our birth in person and Erika is MAGIC! Allie had sent us amazing resources for body positioning but after my epidural (which didn't take on the left side of my body), Erika physically moved me into different positions and I was able to fully numb and progress to 9cm! After our child was born, Erika and Allie supported us and continue to check in. We love them!Sybil and Jenna took care of us postpartum. We so appreciated the gentle yet clear guidance. Sybil came over the day after we returned from the hospital. We were exhausted. By the end of the four hours, our kitchen was spotless, there were fresh blueberry muffins (the BEST snack at 2am between chestfeeds), and I got a hot shower and a NAP! Jenna and Sybil continued with us until the 3 month mark. Jenna would always check in to see if we needed anything before coming over. It's like she knew what we needed before we did! Our child loved both Sybil and Jenna - so happy in their arms. Sybil even came to a horse barn with me so that I could start riding again. Pure gold. Our birth experience and fourth trimester couldn't have been better. We credit Emerald Doulas for the knowledge and love that nourished us.
Ellen Allen: I wish words could express how grateful I am for Emerald Doulas. I work as a Labor and Delivery nurse, and their support was and still is invaluable. Melanie and Erika made me comfortable from day one, and I consider them family even now, three months postpartum. Without their support, I’m not sure my birth experience would have been as wonderful as it was. They continue to reach out and check in on me, and I’m honored I was able to work with them.
Courtney Cannon: We loved our doula experience with Emerald Doulas!! Melanie and Vanessa were unimaginably supportive throughout the entire experience. We especially loved how frequently they checked in and provided emotional support - starting months and months before the delivery. They were each a wealth of knowledge and provided so much guidance and reassurance when needed. Always super quick to respond. Our delivery was quick but still their presence was invaluable. Would absolutely recommend Emerald Doulas to all of my friends!
Maggie Zeillmann: My husband described our doula Allie as “indispensable” during the birth of our son. She was absolutely wonderful at supporting both of us, providing comfort measures and a calming presence, and she even stayed with us for several hours after he was born to help me transition to the postpartum room while my husband went with baby to the nursery for blood sugar monitoring. I felt instantly comfortable and safe around Allie and had no hesitation whatsoever to be emotionally and physically vulnerable with her during my labor. Allie also took pictures and videos for us when I was in “labor land” and couldn’t think to ask for them. Before the birth, Allie and Erika were a wonderful source of support during some difficult moments in my pregnancy, and after labor they helped both of us process the intense experience of labor and delivery. This was my first pregnancy, and I will be using Emerald Doulas for all my future pregnancies as well. Highest recommendation!
Anneka Sylvain: I am so lucky to have had the privilege of working with Emerald Doulas for my recent birthing experience. I was carrying as a surrogate for a wonderful family, and I had a "perfect birth" all planned (with the help of Vanessa and Melanie at Emerald Doulas). Well, as life goes, the birth did not go as planned and if not for the support of Vanessa to hold my hand, rub my back, and give me evidence-based advice on what was happening and what options I had, I don't know where I would have been. Not only did they support me but also my partner and parents when they had questions or just needed a listening ear during the experience. If I were to have another baby, I would definitely depend on the support of Emerald Doulas.
Morgan Clark: Hiring Emerald Doulas for post-partum support was one of the smartest decisions I have made in my life! They are wonderful and their support was so helpful to have in those first few months - they provide so much that family and others cannot. Their grandparent class was also immensely helpful for my parents. I would work with them again in a heartbeat!
Emma Sternlof: I am so glad and grateful that I chose Emerald Doulas for my first pregnancy and the birth of my son! My doula team, Shauna and Talitha, was incredible. They talked me through the neverending third trimester and provided great resources. On the big day, when things were moving VERY quickly, they coordinated seamlessly to support my husband and me. Talitha made me feel so safe and powerful during labor, helping me achieve my goal of an unmedicated birth. And in the postpartum phase, both continued to check in - and seemed to text just when I most needed it. I cannot recommend them enough!
Maya Mc: Emerald Doulas is an amazing organization and is worth every penny. I purchased their postpartum doula services and their services are life changing for new parents. They really supported me in many ways after a difficult and traumatic birth. I also appreciate how thoughtful how my doulas, Jenna and Lauren N., were in making sure we were all safe from illnesses and were so considerate to leave our home better than they found it. I felt completely supported and not judged even when I was second guessing myself as a mom of 2. They always communicated how many sessions I had left and were always open for feedback. Overall, I was so happy that they worked with me and my family to support us during those precious but wild first few weeks.

Doulas of Raleigh: what do users think?
Rachel Caddiell: Doulas of Raleigh is such a wonderful service and was super helpful for our family! Crystal was incredible. Her postpartum support was everything our family needed. She is the best and was great with our little one and us. She was always there for me as a new mama going through so many changes! I definitely would recommend Doulas of Raleigh for postpartum doula support.
Caitlin Weeks: I strongly recommend Doulas of Raleigh for postpartum doula needs! As a FTM and family that lived out of state, I was especially anxious about my transition to motherhood and knowing how to take care of my baby. The owners, Heather and Kelly, were so hopeful in the introductory call to listen to my needs and advise me on what to expect and how a postpartum doula can help. My doula, Crystal, was absolutely phenomenal in making that transition so much easier and less scary than I could have imagined! The best part is that your support is entirely up to YOU and how you see your motherhood journey starting, no judgement or unwelcomed comments that unfortunately happens often for new moms. I cannot thank this group enough for all the support they gave me!
Amber Cheek: We used Doulas of Raleigh for immediate postpartum support, when we came home from the hospital with our second baby. What a difference it made in my mental health - having a few nights a week where we could rest and reset was amazing. I had severe postpartum anxiety following the birth of my first child, which is why I contacted a doula service for the second. The support and care given by our doula allowed me to take care of myself, and be more aware of how I was doing mentally and physically. The whole process was comforting and peaceful. We were introduced to our doula weeks before our son arrived, and were able to get to know her before she came to take care of him. Knowing Doulas of Raleigh had already vetted and screened our doula was a weight off my shoulders. We reached back out to them a few months after our initial time with our doula, to see about care for our son for 2 weeks in the summer when my mom was out of town. The stress of finding someone and screening them was removed from our shoulders, and we were able to have someone in our home during those 2 weeks so we could work during the day. Both doulas we worked with were considerate of time (always on time or early), and respectful of our space and home. We enjoyed both experiences, and would recommend this service to anyone looking for postpartum care of support!
Laura M: We’ve loved doulas of Raleigh! We originally went to their birthing class which was very informative and helpful. Our teacher was very personable and took the time to answer everyone’s questions.Because of that interaction we decided to explore both a birth doula and post partum doula with doulas of Raleigh. Sadly by the time we decided to pull the trigger, they had no availability for a birth doula. This was maybe two months before our due date, so plan early! But we’ve LOVED having a postpartum doula! We had someone come twice a week for the first six weeks. We don’t have a lot of helpful family in the area and she was a savior! She showed up with a great attitude and just worked for four hours straight. She made us breakfast (even remembering how we like our eggs), did laundry, washed dishes, prepped meals, cared for the baby when we needed a break and gave us a ton of helpful advice. She helped with breastfeeding latching, learning to swaddle, gave advice on sleep issues, etc.We also enlisted Doulas of Raleigh around the three month post partum time frame. Our little guy was having some health issues that made night particularly tough and us very tired! We had a second doula come by (our original one was unavailable) and she was equally as helpful and hard working. They have made our post partum time a million times less stressful! We highly recommend!
Alanna Howard Garrison: Heather, Kelly and team were fantastic support to us during the pregnancy, delivery and postpartum periods. The newborn class we took was very informative, Heather was wonderful support during delivery and was that objective third party we were hoping for. We've had several postpartum doulas from the wider team support us during postpartum, and from the light housework to providing that extra set of hands while we rested and reset, each part has helped us show up better for our daughter, and we're grateful. We highly recommend them to anyone considering a doula team!
sarah hink: Best decision we made during my pregnancy was hiring Doulas of Raleigh. I did not feel very informed or heard by my medical provider, and the pregnancy being my first at "advance maternal age", I sought addition support to help ease my anxiety. Just knowing the team was there to answer questions throughout the pregnancy was comforting. My labor and delivery was not as planned, which is often the case, and Heather was there to support me and my partner through the chaos and stress in the hospital that day. I am so thankful Heather was there to be with us and help bring our daughter safely into our lives.
Sarah Cloud: We had doulas Erika and Sarah come to do overnight stays during our first week home. They were both incredible! So helpful to get some good rest during those first few days. They answered any questions we had and took great care of our little one! Highly recommend Doulas of Raleigh. Additionally the owner was very responsive and friendly and made sure the support we needed was available exactly when we needed it!
Sara Scanlon: When my husband and I started our prenatal journey, a few friends suggested getting a doula. We didnt know much about doulas, but after a phone call with co-owner, Heather, explaining their purpose, we took the leap. We haven't looked back since! We took a childbirthing class with Heather, who quickly helped us realize our knowledge of labor and birth was limited to what we had seen in the movies. Using conversation, visual and tactile learning aids, humor, and kindness, Heather walked us through every step of the birthing process. When my doctor told me I was 100% effaced during labor, I shouted, "My Play-Doh is gone!" Being equipped with the knowledge of the childbirthing process helped me stay in control instead of letting labor happen to me.Kimberly taught us an infant feeding class tailored especially to us. A previous surgery meant breastfeeding could be a challenge, but knowing what to expect took so much pressure off. As I worked with the lactation consultant and worked through feeding challenges at the hospital, I heard Kimberly's encouragement and gentleness in the back of my mind, giving me permission to take things one step at a time. I am positive my breastfeeding journey would be far more stressful without Kimberly's help! Then, there were Crystal and Alley, the doulas assigned to us for prenatal, labor, and postpartum care. These women are intellentent, strong, compassionate, and so friendly and personal. The moment they came to our home, they felt like old friends. They initiated a group chat with my husband and me, proved through their actions that they were there for us, and checked in frequently. The holistic care they provide goes above and beyond preparing for labor: they provide practical and insightful strategies to maintain mental health, a healthy marriage, and self-care. They helped us feel calm and informed every step of the way!Alley happened to be the one to join us at the hospital for our labor and delivery journey. I can't put into words what she did for my husband and me. She believed in me, encouraged me, and taught me. When I didn't think I could go on anymore, Alley spoke truth to me and reminded me who I am and what I am capable of. I couldn't have done what I did without her. I am so in awe of Alley and her gift for helping and supporting others. I will forever cherish our experience together. I truly believe God sent us Alley.Everyone at doulas of Raleigh approaches their job with gentleness, intellegence, and passion. We were never told what to do: we were educated and supported as we made our own decisions. We were set up for success in ways we didn't know were possible. We cannot express our gratitude enough, and we absolutely love them. ❤️
Michele Doblitz: My spouse and I had the pleasure of hiring Doulas of Raleigh for the birth of our son in January 2022. Heather and Katy were a phenomenal team to work with from start to finish. They communicated with us every step of the way, were highly responsive, kind and professional. When it came time for labor and delivery, Heather met us at the hospital and was a calm, reassuring presence for us. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. I highly recommend Doulas of Raleigh for expecting parents and consider the services they provide to be a worthwhile investment for such a significant milestone.
Kristen L Fitzpatrick: We were so lucky to have Heather and Katy by our sides throughout our pregnancy and the delivery of our baby. They walked us thorough the birthing process and prepared us for all possible scenarios, providing us the mental preparation we didn't know we needed. Katy was on call for our daughter's birth and not only supported me physically, but she created a sense of calm in the delivery room that empowered me and my husband. We feel so grateful to have had such a positive birth experience with the Doulas of Raleigh!
Rachel Brody: We had a great experience working with Doulas of Raleigh, and specifically Heather who attend the birth of our son. This was our second child and we weren't sure we needed a doula, but I'm so glad we decided to partner with one because every pregnancy and birth is so different. Heather was supportive, knowledgeable, and responsive. We both felt supported before, during and after the birth of our son. We would recommend to any of our friends (and have!)
Hannah Harris: We had an amazing experience with Heather as our birth Doula. Heather and Katy did a wonderful job providing prenatal education on the birthing process. When it came time to deliver, Heather was our on call Doula - and we couldn’t have done it without her! She was invaluable in helping us navigate the labor and delivery process. Doulas of Raleigh helped me have the birth experience I was most interested in. I never felt judged or inadequate - they answered every question I had with love and evidence based answers. If we have another child, we will definitely be connecting with Doulas of Raleigh again.
Lorrin Plyler: As a first time mom I had a of anxiety surrounding birth but knew I wanted to attempt to do things naturally. My husband also had a lot of anxiety…so, I knew I needed a doula to help keep him calm and help me achieve the birth I wanted. After interviewing a few doulas in the area Heather’s approach and passion for what they do won me over.I met with Katy and Heather a few times prior to birth and we started a group text (me, husband, Katy and Heather) in case I needed anything/ had any questions. They were both always so responsive and it felt more like a group text with friends than someone I hired to help me have a baby! We created a detailed birth plan and they helped show us laboring positions as I wanted to stay at home as long as possible before heading to the hospital. There was a lot more detail to these meetings and they had handouts of different things like positions, postpartum care, a “plan” for my husband and I to work on before we came home… just helpful details I wouldn’t have thought of without their services. On the day of Katy was on call so I called her around 7am when my water broke. We kept in touch about hourly and she asked if I wanted her to come to me yet. I was “fine” until I wasn’t… and called and told her to meet us at the hospital. I had planned to have her come to my house… hang out in the tub… but things escalated too quickly. When we got there I was 9.5 cm and ready to go… they wouldn’t let her come back until we were assigned a room and when she was allowed back she jumped right in. Putting cold wash clothes on my neck, reassuring my husband, holding my legs because the nurses didn’t seem to want to. I don’t remember what, but there was a decision I was asked to make and she helped me weigh the risks/benefits. She also hung out way longer than an hour after baby was born as I was bleeding a little too much and she wanted to make sure we were about to head to a room before she left. She snapped some pictures which I will forever hold dear. My husband and I had talked about him doing this but he was stunned at how quickly things were going and without her thinking to do so, we wouldn’t have had any!I had my placenta encapsulated as well. Heather came over and cleaned my kitchen two days in a row! A requirement to do what she needed to do…but a perk none the less. They checked in many times with texts pre and post birth and made me feel very supported. They helped me accomplish my dream labor (if that’s a thing) and I will recommend their services to every pregnant person I know!!
Eliza Evans: As a FTM, I knew I wanted both a labor and postpartum doula but Doulas of Raleigh exceeded all of my expectations. There are not enough words to share how grateful I am to Heather and Kelly for making my transition into parenthood truly amazing! If you are hesitant about whether a labor or postpartum doula is right for you, I would recommend Doulas of Raleigh over and over again!Labor Doula:From the moment I met Katy and Heather they were professional, kind, calming, knowledgeable, and answered all of my calls, texts, and emails in a timely fashion. After our meetings, my husband and I felt prepared and confident throughout the entire pregnancy. Due to being induced, I had to deviate from my original birth plan which made me even happier to have had Heather by our side. Heather was encouraging, supportive, reassuring, and calming during my entire labor. As if this was not enough, I am beyond grateful to Heather for giving me the confidence to advocate for myself during labor. In a time that can be so overwhelming and chaotic, my husband and I were able to enjoy each moment because Heather was there to help and keep us present in each moment. Thank you thank you thank you Heather!Postpartum Doula:I did not know how important having a postpartum doula was until I met Kelly! Kelly gave me confidence, encouragement, knowledge, and sleep (thanks to the overnight hours.) Kelly is kind, patient, and answered all of my questions, and there were A LOT. There was one night my newborn was inconsolably crying and nothing I did seemed to calm him down. I texted Kelly in a panic and within minutes she responded and not only eased my mind but provided a solution that immediately helped me soothe my son to sleep! There are countless stories and things I could share about how wonderful Kelly is and how much she helped my postpartum journey. My husband and I are beyond grateful and appreciative of everything she did for us and the impact she left on our new family.
Janeli McNeal: As a first time mom giving birth during a pandemic, I really wanted the added support of a doula. When everything was being offered virtually, it was nice to have some in-person support from Heather and Katy. They were beyond amazing and made us feel comfortable the entire pregnancy. They were always quick to respond to our questions and made every effort to follow our lead in our desired pregnancy plan. I had a difficult delivery but Katy and Heather made sure to stay in touch with me after the birth of our son with regular and genuine concern. It meant so much. They really do care for you and continue to provide the same high quality support after the birth. If I have another child, they'll definitely be my side again.Thank you Heather and Katy!
Carly Blanchard: I had the most amazing experience with Doulas of Raleigh. As a first time mom, I knew I wanted a doula as part of my birthing team, and was so lucky to find Heather and Katy. I loved that you meet with both of them at your first appointment so they both have the opportunity to get to know you and your partner, and I had the opportunity to feel equally comfortable with either of them. At our second appointment we had the same amazing meeting with them - they talked through signs of labor, helpful positions and counter pressure techniques for labor, and talked through postpartum help. Their hospital bag checklist was also super helpful. When I went in to labor, Katy was on call, and she answered immediately and kept in touch with me and my husband until we were ready for her to come to the house. She had the most amazing calm and reassuring energy. She was so helpful and able to answer most all of our questions. She helped me get through my labor and delivery with confidence. Not only was she amazing to me, she was also great with my husband - ensuring he ate, slept, and stayed hydrated so he could support me at his best. After Katy left the hospital, my husband, who was hesitant about a doula in the beginning, looked at me and said “it was worth every penny”.I said to Katy several times “I could not have done that without you”, and while she said yes I could, it would have been a much different experience. If we get pregnant again, one of my first calls will be to Heather to ensure I have them by my side again!
Megan Shank: My husband and I took the "Comfort Measures" class with Heather recently to prepare/refresh our memories before the birth of our second baby. It was a wonderful experience! In-person and at our home. Much better and more personalized than the class we took at the hospital prior to our first baby. Heather took time to answer our specific questions, talk through my first experience with labor, and recommend specific techniques. We have a lot more in our "tool box" going in this time around thanks to this class!
Sharyn Button: Heather and Erika are the best! We worked directly with Heather leading up to and during the birth of our daughter, and both my husband and I felt so grateful to have someone to hold our hand (sometimes literally) throughout the labor and birth process. Heather helped me move emotionally and physically through a long labor, and I don’t think I would have had the positive birth experience I had without her support and guidance. She even brought and hung up twinkle lights in our delivery room, which was very touching and thoughtful. Both Heather and Erika are super knowledgeable and experienced, and I can’t recommend them highly enough.
Rachel Marie Vetterl: As a FTM I knew I wanted a doula so I emailed Doulas of Raleigh because they popped up fast on google lol. However, that impulse decision to hire them without speaking to anyone else proved to be a good one. Erika and Heather are both so encouraging and knowledgeable. They spent so much time getting to know us and gave us great support during pregnancy birth and beyond. My husband and I loved them both immediately. Erika was at my birth and literally don’t know how we would’ve gotten through that Unmedicated back labor without her! We had an incredible experience and would use them time and time again.
Caroline Mills: I used Doulas of Raleigh for birth and postpartum doula services for my first baby. Throughout my pregnancy they were responsive and supportive for any questions I had - anything from birth plans/maps to the most comfortable pajamas to invest in! Throughout my labor and delivery their support was essential for my husband and me. Postpartum, Heather has been affirming and helpful, volunteering to help out with breastfeeding, baby care, and light housework. I highly recommend Doulas of Raleigh!
Alexa Little: The birth of my first child was difficult. I felt alone and uninformed in a cold hospital, while my husband sat at my side freaking out because, well, labor can be intense.I was able to have Doulas of Raleigh support me during the hospital birth of my second child, as well as postpartum overnight care. The amount of support and knowledge these women provided was astonishing. They will support you through a variety of birth choices that YOU decide on, and even showed us ways to relieve tension, and some positions for breathing during early labor. I was also able to make sure that my husband felt supported and included in the birth. I am now a firm believer that everyone should have a doula present during their birth just to experience how wonderful childbirth can be, as well as being informed of all the options you have. The overnight care was also spectacular. I was matched with doulas who have backgrounds in sleep training (which I’m a huge fan of). So while I got some sleep, they did the work at night! Transitioning back to being home with my toddler and needing to be available to my infant was made so much easier knowing I had some relief in the evenings. Now that they’re gone, our life has begun a new normal, and it was a smooth ride these awesome doulas!
