Cary Mower & Saw: what do users think?
Roy Lee Draughn: I had an older chainsaw, from the 80’s, that Cary Mower and Saw and tuned for me in the past. Took it in to the new owners, Clay’s, and they all but laughed me out the door and told me it’s probably time to retire the saw. Maybe they still know how to work stuff, but they sure are not willing to repair stuff they don’t sell now. I will never step foot there unless I have no other choice, even if it is sthil or echo.
eddie west: Clay's is a great place to get equipment, or to have service done...their customer service is excellent...folks are nice and courteous...the place is clean and professional...they took great care of me...Kristina is so nice and helpful! Chris helped a lot with questions...Wes is running a great business...
Fred Kastner: My (beloved) Stihl chainsaw was getting increasingly more difficult to start. I left it at Clays for service and got a call 6 days later that it was ready. Chris (2-cycle engine master technician) did a WONDERFUL job! Completely satisfied with the work Chris did and with the overall interaction during the check-in/check-out process. Thank you Clays and thank you Chris!
Shawn Regimand: I purchased a Cub Cadet mover less than one year ago. I been having hard time starting it every time I want to use it. I have not been getting any help.
Mark Hertzfeld: The whole store was clean and all of the product was well placed for people to review and see the different choices of mowers and weed whackers
M Hodges: Similar service issues as others. Called and inquired about how much it would cost me for a diagnostic on my leaf blower. I was told $30. (My blower was bogging down when triggered) Not being concerned with time, I took it in for a diagnosis. I asked the young man that helped me if they would call me to let me know what it would take (cost’ $) to fix it. I was told that I would get a call. I explained that it may or may not be worth fixing so the cost to repair is very important and I will need to know (in other words, A SERVICE AUTHORIZATION) basic service vernacular and procedures right? WRONG The only call that I received, which was only a couple of days later, was to let me know that my blower was ready for pickup. I was slightly surprised, and excited that it was ready so fast and obviously it was less than the $30 since I never received a pre-authorization call. When I arrived to pick up the blower, I was told that my balance was $86.82. I told the Gentleman that was checking me out that I was supposed to get a call about what it needed, so as you can imagine, I was caught off guard. He then tells me “Well, it’s only $86.82” — almost positive on this quote. (Pull your tapes) FOLKS, that is a grand total of $116.82! Not $30I paid it and said thanks, and left. I get home and was anxious to blow my stinking pine straw, and leaves and wouldn’t you know it… after a new carburetor, new fuel lines and whatever else they did, it still had the same exact problem.I called the shop back and explained this issue and was told…. Well, I don’t know what the problem could be. It can’t be anything else if we did those things???? Really? So then what do I do? This person says, I’m not sure what to tell you….. smhHere’s where I’ve come to. We “support” our local businesses, and sometimes we hit a home run, sometimes we strike out. This time I struck out.Solution: COMMUNICATION! Set the proper expectations with your customers and communicate with them! Don’t just replace a handful of parts and dishonestly rip their heads off, knowing that they are at your mercy just because you can. It’s not right, and after so many bad reviews, it will negatively impact you. You are in the service business in a great town. Try to act like it. The surrounding residents deserve it.
Jake Council: A jolly good experience!A helpful and knowledgeable staff selling a variety of quality equipment and tools. I highly recommend supporting this local business!
Pepe Rencurrell: We've been taking our electric lawnmower there every year so they can sharpen the blade and as always, they have been very polite and helpful. They also sell an array of excellent brands lawn tools! Highly recommend it!!
Bill Fishel: I took my Stilh leaf blower in for repair at Cary Mower and Saw when it refused to start. They accepted my blower, and a $30 deposit was required before they would look at it.They advised they would call me with a diagnosis. A month later, I called them to ask about my blower’s status. They advised that several jobs were still ahead of me. A couple of weeks later, I called again to inquire about the status of my blower. At that time I was told that my blower needed a new carburetor and that it would be $175 to have it fixed.Given the fact that I can buy a brand-new blower for about $20 more, I opted to not have it repaired. My request for a return of my $30 deposit was refused. I inquired as to why they did not call me, and I was advised that they called me on May 5th. I did not receive a May 5th call from them, and there is no record on my phone of their leaving a message.
Jason Kristof: The guys at Cary Mower & Saw are amazing! Super helpful and knowledgeable. Carry much higher quality equipment than you find at the big box store and have overall saved me a lot of money. Extremely attentive to my situation and really take care of you, Hunter is the best, but really the whole crew there is excellent! Only place to go if you are looking for quality equipment or service!
Sean O'Brien: Awesome place! Phenomenal customer service! Very knowledgeable and friendly staff! I highly recommend!
Brian Kernan: Dropped off mower to get repaired.
andrew chan: Walked inside today for some 2 cycle oil mix. Older man (i guess his name is conner) at the counter was the most unpleasant person i ever dealt with before in a retail shop. No hello, no how can I help you, no anything and when I asked a question regarding a certain brand of 2 cycle engine oil (not only did they not carry it but I got a look from him like I was stupid to even asked). Never will I give this place my business again!
Chris Mayo: Go speak with Hunter for your new purchase! He’s knowledgeable and will help you anyway he can. A+ experience!
mary Haug: We took a saw in for sharpening last week. We were told we'd get it back in 2 days. We called after 2 days and every day following for over a week and each day we were told: "It's not ready yet, it will be tomorrow." When they were finally able to complete the sharpening, we received rude treatment upon retrieval and were charged an extra fee for something we were not informed of up front. Specifically, when we dropped off the saw, we asked if the chain should be taken off for the sharpening (I had a tool to remove the chain in my car and have done it a number of times in minutes) and we were told it didn't matter either way. However, we were then charged an extra $20 fee for not removing the chain. Had we been informed we would have definitely taken it off at the beginning.A 15 minute sharpening job that took over a week to complete, very unfriendly employees (at least at the front desk - please offer customer service training) and untruthful pricing... we would not recommend.
Peter Cusden: Great experience
Rick Cauthen: Needed some parts for my mower had been to another company they didn't have it . Had been to Cary mower some years back so I stopped their got the parts I needed. They r new owners to me . But the gentleman at the store treated as I was a regular customer of theirs . We had a good laugh . No worries when I need parts in the future they'll be a shop I'll have no problem stopping in again. Thanks Cary mower associates thank u for ur service
Michael Forte: Knowledgeable staff and always willing to help. One of my two "go to" outdoor equipment dealers in the RDU area. Heading there now!
Scott Schriver: Great work and even better guys that work at this shop! I have taken my equipment here for the past few years, and never have had any problems. Yet, I do reside in Youngsville (which is roughly 50 min drive) I would not rather have anyone else work on my equipment. That being said, take a trip to this shop and I can promise you will not be disappointed. A great local business with more than 40 years strong.
james sullivan: Blower Vac had stalled and would not start again. Took it to Cary Mower and saw after a few weeks, I was told it was ignition coil and ###.00 to fix. It wasn't the ignition coil. It was a very simple safety switch associated with vacuum operation and safety guard. As an echo dealer I would have expected them to know of this...did they?
M B: I went to this store to get my mower tuned up and the dual blades sharpened. I told them I had a new filter and would like it returned but to install a new filter since that was included. IV received a call that the Carb needed to be replaced in which I approved. After 2 days I called to see if the mower was ready no response. I then drove to the shop the guy at the front counter mentioned my mower was ready so I paid. He brought it outside and before I loaded the mower I decided to test it. Would not start, I checked my air filter to see if it was new and the blades sharpened and The blades were not sharpened, carb not replaced and my original filter was in the mower. I went in and asked did anyone even touch my mower. the counter guy went to review paperwork and and said he thought it was done but no one worked on it at all for the days it was there just sitting there. Go elsewhere. Used to be a good place under previous ownership. Here are my True Stars count "0". March was the time of my visit. Person I spoke to about my cost and Carb need was a young man Hunter I do believe.

Holder & Sons Equipment: what do users think?
T Roy: Many Mahindra tractors to choose from. They also have used tractors, implements, mowers, and parts. Friendly family owned business that assisted me years ago when I needed to sell my dad's tractor and helped me with my new tractor. Was pleased to learn they are the oldest Mahindra dealership in the state. If you go to the website know that they have more tractors than it shows.
J Stader: Knowledgeable staff with a good sized inventory. I was like a kid in a candy store. These offroad diesels were the highlight of my day! (How to convince wife I REALLY need one??)
Green's Mobile Repair: We purchased a 1626 back in summer of 2022. Smooth process and friendly staff. I recently came back to have 3rd function added with grabble and a box blade. Very fast turn around and another smooth process.
Jonnie Blount: What an amazing place!! I took my bush hog there (after 4 attempts to find the correct belt myself EVEN CALLING BUSH HOG) and they were able to put my mind at ease and said they would be happy to fix it! The BUSH HOG dealer made the comment “it is 50 years old!” They placed the belt and sharpened my blades and serviced my Kubota tractor!! They did not in any way make me feel inferior because I am a woman!! My tractor and bush hog were ready for pick up in just a few short days!! It’s awesome to find a business who cares for their customers! I guess this is why they have been around so long!! Thank you sooooo much!!!
Efrain Arredondo: These guys are great! couldn't have asked for better and more honest service. When delivering my tractor, i noticed one of the lines was ruptured, nobodies fault just things that happen. Well they took it upon themselves to take the tractor back, hose repaired and bring it back all on a Friday afternoon!
Craig Carter: Answer all question
Robert swiger Jr: I purchased Mahindra 1626 Tractor with Backhoe, I was told at the time of purchase Backhoe attachment would take 3 to 4 weeks. After 3 weeks I inquired about the backhoe to get a time frame on delivery, I was told Mahindra had not giving a time of delivery. I called Mahindra to try and get better information. Mahindra gave me the run around, However, Holder and sons really stepped up and located a backhoe for me, even driving 2 hours away to pickup. They will have installed in a day and I am happy. These guys really stand behind what they say. Good Honest people, thank you
Wanda Gibson: Always polite..curtious..professional and thorough service. ...Good prices too.Momma Rosa Lester
Murray H: Does not reply to contact system…. I have received no follow up via any kind of communication.
Tommy Thompson: They know there stuff. Need a part they can find it.
Thom Mock: These are people you know you can trust. Very knowledgeable and helpful
JrSurette35 Surrette: Friendly people very helpful
William Covington: Extremely knowledgeable of all aspects of small engine mechanics. Professional staff, and extensive inventory.
Rickey Askew: Nice small Tractor dealer. Easy to get about anything for farming. People are outstanding.
Scott Sturdivant: Knowledgeable and polite staff. Good selection of equipment on site. Bought a new Mahindra 2660 w/loader, a Delta 28' trailer, an auger, box scraper, rototiller, 6' scraper blade, and a 4" chipper/shredder today. Excellent pricing compared to other local dealers.
Howard Faulkner: Very decently priced used equipment
triplecreekpoultry: Very pleased with the power steering repair, extremely displeased with electrical work. I specifically told the person who took my tractor in, to have the ignition wires hooked up, but not to attempt to install the ignition switch or push button start switch because the piece of sheet metal that they install into was at my house.. I told them to leave those components dangling and that I would install my self at home. I received a call that there was a clutch problem and that the tractor would need to broken in half, at which point I told the that the power steering and wiring had been my main concern and that I could fix the clutch myself. When I arrived to pick the tractor up, a new key switch had been installed in the instrument cluster where the glow plug light had been. This is a location which will allow rain to run into the switch. I also now have no glow plug light. I was told that they had installed a new starter solenoid, but that it did not work properly. I was able to get my old solenoid back and took it to a starter and alternator repair shop where it tested good. A new, original style push button witch was installed in the factory position, which is know for having problems due to exposure to rain. I am going to have to rewire the tractor myself, after having paid for it to be done. I called to question the wiring work and was told that when a tractor comes in that has other than factory wiring, they put it back according to factory specs to avoid possible law suits, and that if a customer does not want that, they refuse to work on the tractor. No one told me this, and now I have paid for work which I will have to redo. When I picked the tractor up, I was told that the starter solenoid that they installed did not work, and they used a jumper wire to start the tractor. They did refund the cost of the solenoid, but I have a total labor bill of $1248.00 for changing one wheel, which I provided, fixing the power steering, an creating a wiring problem that I will have to fix myself. I feel that being charged labor for wiring work that did actually work is excessive. I will not recommend this shop to friends.
Tami Prager: Good place for tractor parts & service.
Carter Ellis: Horrible service, incredibly rude, and didn't know what they were doing. It took them eight weeks to figure out a screw needed to be put back in on a blower, and I had to call them to find out it was ready. Then they were very rude to my wife when she came to pick it up. I'll never go back.
elizabeth deluck: Always nice fast at ordering special orders
Phillip Lawson: Purchased a new Gravely Mower from Holder & Sons. Great family-run business that have been there for over 40 years. I spoke with both Steve and Steven and they were very knowledgeable about mowers and gave honest answers to my questions. Most dealer prices are the same on these mowers. I found theirs to be in-line with everyone else and was happy to keep my money in Durham. They delivered the mower that same day to my house. Overall great experience and would recommend.
