C L: Update: my surgery went great. I liked that they do it at the surgery center in the same building rather than at a hospital. Even though the surgery center is pricier, the staff was excellent. Getting everything needed for surgery was a bit of a pain, however. I was first told to get surgical clearance from my PCP by getting blood work, which I did. Then the Foot and Ankle staff says I needed the PCP to fill out a surgical clearance form, so back to the doctor I go. It was a few unnecessary trips to the doctor in my opinion. Even the PCP doctors I spoke to didn’t know why they needed all the extra info. I definitely didn’t have to do that for my tonsillectomy. But, I was still very pleased with my surgery results. I’m already noticing how much more normal my foot feels. I will likely need the other foot done so I will be returning to Carolina Foot and Ankle for that. Dr. Niemi is excellent.I’m not sure why there are such low reviews. Someone always picks up the phone within just a few rings, I never have to wait for 30 minutes for someone to pick up like with a lot of specialists. All of the office staff were super friendly and kind. I came in having no idea of what my foot pain was, but Dr. Niemi knew EXACTLY what the problem was and provided a surgical solution. He thoroughly explained the disorder to me and showed me what the surgery would entail, and explained the scheduling process. I may provide an updated review after the surgery, which won’t be until about July.

Blake Mills: Do yourself a favor and read through reviews before deciding to schedule an appointment. The office staff is awful! They're rude and unwilling to even attempt to answer simple questions about an upcoming appointment. I've used this office in the past, but never again.

A patient came for advice about a foot problem, but didn't sign up to be verbally talked down on by Bill Niemi. I understand that people feel strongly about the subject but your job is to help people with their feet and ankles, not lecture people and call them idiots for 20+ minutes after your work is done.
James Higday: After 20+ years as a patient here this office has gone to the dogs. After this organization switched over to UNC no one answers the phone although there are people at the office twiddling their thumbs. I showed up today as instructed by my Doctors assistant but no one had any idea why I was there nor was the paper work I was told I would sign ready. The attitude is oh well go somewhere else. No customer service anymore. Too bad. I will move on.
Lakeshia McLean: Beware!! This place has bad billing practices. I was charged $200 for a foot brace that only cost about $7 on Amazon. This place is filing claims using incorrect procedure codes in order to get paid more money. Do not go to this practice. The staff seems nice but bad billing practices will have you paying more out of pocket then you should.
Elaine Bednarz: Beware of deceptive billing practices. Did you know you have to schedule a post procedure follow up visit within 10 days? If it is over 10 days you will be charged for another office visit, even though the original charges included a follow up appointment. The office staff making your follow up appointment will not tell you this. You will find out the hard way. And even if you protest the charge with UNC Health and the office staff and explain you were not told of this secret rule, they will admit to "miscommunication" but refuse to remove the charge.

Kat M: Trying to find any doctor who really cares anymore is a lost cause – they just don’t. I know dealing with people all day long can be difficult but if you LISTEN to them and show a little kindness, most people will respond in kind. Marching out the door after 2 minutes and telling an assistant to hand me information from Amazon about dreidels, even after I told him I had one already, it was apparent that he just wanted to go home and have a drink and count his money – and it very much showed. He spent two minutes with me at the most, he filed down two toenails that were growing in kind of thick (I thought they were ingrown, which is why I went, but he said they weren't), and he said I should try doing that at home for a few weeks and them go back and see him if I wanted to just have the toenails removed. He didn't ask if I had other foot issues - in fact, one of my toes is completely numb and I wanted to ask him about it, but he was done with me and down the hallway he went. So he's TIRED of dealing with people and their foot problems, day after day, and he's waiting for the magical day when he can retire with his millions. I felt disregarded and marginalized - and then my co-pay was double what I thought it would be, which for me, was financially difficult. (This is not their fault - now I know I have to call ahead to ask.) No one was unkind here, but no one was exceptionally friendly, either. I'm not going back - but I know there is someone just like me right around the corner - and they know it too.
Kimberly Stevenson: This is THE best medical office I have ever encountered! The staff is professional, knowledgeable and FRIENDLY! Dr. Niemi performed foot surgery on me and outlined a logical, easy-to-follow post-op/treatment plan. He has a fantastic, professional bedside manner.

He quickly diagnosed my problem as tendonitis, causing pain in the arch and the top of my foot, which he identified. My problem was not plantar fasciitis as diagnosed by Urgent Care ... my foot did not hurt in the heel or the bottom but they still diagnosed it as fasciitis. I'm so glad I went to see Dr Hauser and on the road to recovery following his instructions.

This clinic manipulates people's health, and all they care about is that they get money from the patient insurance company. Carol P: Sneaky used car salesman. Taking advantage of the elderly. Do not be fooled by his bedside manner. After years of taking a family member here, come to find out he was not billing insurance properly. He consistently billed using improper coding/and an umbrella of different provider names causing my family member to pay completely out-of-pocket for services that would have been covered had he coded and billed properly. Dr. Tomey, if you're reading this, the jig is up. The front desk staff is terrified to provide any information when it comes to billing leading to more suspicion. Not to mention, the service he provided was inadequate.

Amy U: Overall, I had a wonderful experience. Reception, nurse and doctor were all great! I had to have a procedure done with local anesthesia which can be quite unpleasant in a toe. Dr. Tomey explained the options, answered my questions and made sure to make it as minimally painful as possible. He stopped part way through the procedure to add additional numbing to ensure I was comfortable. Follow up instructions were clear and it was easy to make a 10 day follow up appointment as well. I will definitely recommend Dr. Tomey and see him again if I have any other issues.

I gave insurance information at the time I set the appt. and was told they just started taking it. The morning of my appt, I get a call in which they said - we're not sure if we take it or not. We might, or we might not, we don't know. It sincerely sounded like they'd forgotten to complete their in-network paperwork and realized it only when they tried to run my insurance the night before the appt. My insurance company rep was gobsmacked. She said they absolutely had to know - yes or no, they had signed the paperwork and were in...or they had not and it was still pending. So I get to go for god knows how much longer in pain because they couldn't get their act together. Nor were they particularly caring about it. I was truly left feeling like they could care less.

Gretta: I had doctor Michael Tomey and had a great experience. I came in for an in-grown toenail and they anesthetized and cut it back for me on the spot. I do not have an extremely low pain tolerance but I am very, very sensitive when it comes to other people touching my feet and yet I had a really positive experience. They numbed me properly (Initial needle did hurt but not for long) and I didn't feel a THING when he was cutting it back. I went in really worried and am now on the mend with a toe that won't keep bugging me in the future! I highly recommend Doctor Tomey and I highly recommend that you go BEFORE anything gets out of control. Better safe than sorry.

K Quinlan: I had an 8:30 appointment this morning with Dr. Elizabeth Daughtry at the Cary office. I arrived early with my completed new patient forms in hand. At 9:15 I was still awaiting Dr. Daughtry, or anyone, to arrive in the exam room. I stepped out to ask about her whereabouts and was told she was behind because earlier appts were running longer than expected.They open at 8:00, my appt was at 8:30 and I left unseen at 9:15.How do they manage to run at least 45 min late due to appts in the first 30 min of the day?

Marilyn Marrero: Dr. Futrell has been a life saver for me. I came in with extreme pain in my heel. He addressed the issue with my bone. Offered alternatives before doing any surgery. Ultimately, I unfortunately had to get a cheilectomy but I'm so glad I did. I have a small incision and healing wonderfully. Thankful for this office and especially Dr. Futrell!
Gee Ennis: Always quick/friendly, and close to home/work. I'm a veteran so the VA outsourced this facility to take care of me over the last few months. I recommend them to anyone. I'm a Happy Camper :O)
LittleTreeX: I purchased orthotic inserts from this office. I was double billed for the orthotics themselves, so I had to call a couple times to get that resolved. Annoying, but mistakes happen.After that, I was incorrectly billed for an office visit. It took me 4 months to get this resolved with them. In that time I called at least 10 times and went there twice in person. Each time I spoke with them they claimed to be sending it to the "office manager" to take care of, and yet it didn't get taken care of. Finally, after involving my insurance company they were able to correct the bill.Perhaps the doctors are good, but I don't have a long enough relationship with them to say for sure. There is no way I will ever return to this office given their track record with incorrect billing, and inability to resolve matters like these without wasting their patients' time.The worst part is that I'm still not 100% happy with my inserts, but there is no way I'm going to risk yet another issue by going back. I'll just deal with it, and take my money elsewhere next time.

Chandra Jennings: Came in for what I thought was going to be a quick check up a foot that has been hurting, but unfortunately that was not the case. After doing an x-ray of my left foot, checking it out, doing an x-ray of my right foot, and then comparing it to my right foot Dr. Kelly told me the toe supporting my left toe was broken. He is thinking it may have been due to doing zumba, yoga, and physical therapy. He said it would heal, but I would have to be in a boot for four weeks! I laughed when he told me that I would have to Netflix and chill for four weeks! Ouch!Dr. Kelly was very thorough, helpful, and funny. I am looking forward go seeing him and his amazing staff again!
