Douglas Furs of Raleigh: what do users think?
Sixx: I moved to Raleigh in 2016 and my parents moved here in 2019. I told my mother about this place and told her we should store our coats here. I even had them alter my mink jacket. We have been storing our coats (4 in total) there ever since.Douglas furs just had a big “sale” this weekend where you were supposed to get a good deal on new and pre owned furs. BULL!! First….the selection for small people sizes 4 or 6 was almost nonexistent which was very disappointing and discriminatory. And if you found a pre owned coat they would charge you half of a person to alter it to your size. Why when you had little to non coats in small sizes. Second….the prices were not comparable, very expensive. Third… the sale person was mot helpful at all. Fourth….I brought my friend there and the sales person who was initially helping me put all his energy into helping my friend. I guess it’s because they had a massive selection of coats in her size. He totally stopped helping me and kept trying to push a coat onto to me that I didn’t want. To add insult to injury, my friend (whom I told about the sale) found a nice coat and headband when it was me who wanted to walk out with a new coat and headband!Don’t waste your time going here. Take a trip up north where the selection is more and the prices are less.…..WHO SAID ANYTHING ABOIT A ISED COAT?! It is discrimination when you don't have a large selection of a certain size and call it a"SALE" and then want to charge an astronomical price to alter a coat that's two sizes too big!I had a function to go to the next day and my plan was to buy a "NEW" mink to wear to that function. DIDN'T happen!!!!Do not discount my experience! The older man that was initially helping me STOPPED and gave all his attention to my sister!Being that there were not a lot of small sized coats, one expect that there would have been more effort given to me. Sorry that I'm a size 4 and have been all my life even after children! It's very evident that Douglas Furs doesn't take accountability for anything! People make mistakes and things happen, but instead of you owning your stuff and asking how can you fix the situation you try to deflect. On all the reviews that are terrible NOT ONCE have you asked how could you help, fix or rectify one's bad Experience with tour company! I’m what you call a loyal customer!!!!
Carla Loftis: Great company to work for. Owner is fair and ethical.
Lindsey Spain: I placed two fur coats on consignment with them. One of them was in excellent condition, and the other was vintage and in very good condition. They have done literally nothing to try to sell the coats. Every time I call, they just tell me that they are "on the sales floor." I priced the coats at their suggested price and lowered the price as suggested as well. I had to pay them an upfront "cleaning fee" and "storage fee, " which means I've lost money in trying to sell these coats which they still haven't done in a year. I will not be renewing my consignment contract with them as they have proven that they are unable to consign successfully. I do not recommend them for consignment purposes.
Sheila Redmond: I took a mink coat in to get it repaired and glazed. The only problem I have is the pressure in trying to get you to purchase a coat. . I was trying to listen to the person assisting me and the Korean/Asian gentleman was pressuring me to purchase a fur coat. It was extremely annoying. I understand sales, but the pressure to purchase was too much.I don’t like to be pressured.
Karen Cockerel: They were suppose to fix a few small things like a small hole in the pocket of my fur. They sewed it so closed that a child can barely get their hands in it. I don't think it was stored properly. The fur looks really bad. I would rather drive all the way to NY to get to a business with more experience. It really looks as if they intentionally ruined it. They kept asking me to trade in trying to degrade my coat which looked fairly new before I brought it there. If you love your fine furs find another place
Beni Summers: CAUTION:For those who are looking to have an older coat repaired, I would not suggest this store.-scroll to bottom to skip the details---Relevant Backstory--Not too long ago, I received a fur coat from my grandmother, it was the last Christmas present my grandfather had given her before succumbing to a sudden horrific onslaught of medical problems and passing away shortly before I was born. After he died, my grandmother put the coat into storage until I was old enough to wear it.I recently wore this coat for the first time, and it was amazing. Unfortunately I was only able to wear it a couple times before a seam in the fur ripped. Obviously I was distraught. I planned a day trip up to Raleigh in order to take it to Douglas Furs (I live a couple hours away and this was the closest furrier). One of the associates took a look at it & stated that due to its age it could not be repaired and needed to be thrown away. After getting into the car and crying over how I was going to have to break the news to my grandmother, I contacted a taxidermist in a hail mary attempt to save whatever I could. She looked over the coat and repaired it in a single afternoon. Here's what I learned:1) even though the coat was old, it wasn't shedding (meaning the fur still had some integrity)2) due to my small size & the somewhat oversized nature of the coat, I would be able to wear it without causing too much stress on the seams3) the rip was on the seam in the shoulder, which is a high stress area & is normal in older coatsShe was also able to give me some more detailed information on the condition of the coat, as well as make some suggestions to prolong its life. I will definitely go back to craft the remaining fur into a keepsake when the coat finally does fall apart. The coat is still delicate due to its antiquity but I would expect nothing less from a 18+ year old coat. That's the price you pay for vintage.tldr: douglas fur told me to throw the coat away, a taxidermist saved it & told me to write a scathing review, I settled for this
MsSouthCaro: They picked up my fur at an Greenville, NC location which was convenient, plus they called to remind of pick up dates and time. The customer service from the young man was very good and professional. I was very pleased with the care and cleaning of my coat.
SHARRON LAWRENCE: Customer service fit for a Queen and/or King! Friendly staff ready to answer any question(s) while you try on furs for days!! So many choices available that it's impossible not to find your favorite fur & fall in love. Great place to purchase or layaway your next fur coat & accessories!!!
Wilma Williams: Trusted place that does take care of my coat every year
Tricia Phillips: I work there
Tanya V: I can’t believe someone rated 1 star just to be mean since they do not believe in utilizing fur. So here is 5 stars.
Doug Metcalf: For many years my family have used Hertzberg furs, purchasing, storing, etc. I inherited a full length coat and gave the coat to Hertzberg to sell. They did sell the coat in July of 2017. Since then the store has been turned over to Douglas furs. I have an invoice showing it was sold and partial payment to be made to me. I have called Douglas numerous times and they keep saying they will get back to me. I have not heard back from anyone. I would not recommend Douglas Furs for their customer service is not to be trusted. I assume a law suit may be the only option at this time.
Phoebe Briley: I recently inherited a couple of mink coats from my grandmother and was unsure what to do with them and who to go to for advice. A friend of the family recommended I take them to Hertzberg Furs in Raleigh, NC. and I can honestly say that they are a world-class furrier. I was thrilled with the service and advise they gave me. Robert was kind enough to spend a great deal of time talking with me about my options. After working with him today, I can say that he is a true expert in his field. He patiently and thoughtfully listened to my ideas and concerns and gave me excellent, sound advise.
