Carolina Stars Hockey: what do users think?
Nicole Bishop: Our family has been a part of the Carolina Stars Program since Summer 2020. The intensity of the practices, including power skating, with no idle time, impressed us from the start. We saw our son improve in all areas of play.Every year we re-evaluate our options to decide what is best for our son and worth our money. We keep coming back to the Stars. It is a well organized and successful program. Each Carolina Stars team we have been a part of has had a great group of kids and parents. This last year, we passed up other options to follow the program to Hillsborough for Coach Kevin. The coaching and the culture of this program has yet to be beat. Coach Kevin adds so much to this program. His practices are hard, with high level drills, and skating skills. The life lessons he instills in my boys will last longer then the days on the ice - he teaches respect, teamwork, and responsibility with high expectations of good behavior and willingness to learn. My younger son was asked where he wants to play and he responded for Coach Kevin and the Carolina Stars.Youth sports can be intense-this program provides a great mix of fun, friendships, and lasting positive memories while developing hockey players.
Robert Vander Poppen: When we joined the Stars our family knew our son would get great coaching and a high level of competition. What we didn’t expect was how much the coaches are dedicated to growing players’ love for the game. Also, the parents here love their kids, invest in their well-being, and are passionate about their success. The Stars are a family. Joining the club was the BEST decision.
Ben Boytor: We joined the Carolina Stars 10u program this year and couldn't be happier with the overall experience and results for our hockey squirt. We just finished up a very successful and fun season where the kids all learned, got better and grew closer as a team.Hockey Director Kevin Kamenski runs a top-notch program with highly productive practices and drills that have a major focus on skating and team play. You can see the kids getting better week to week as drills progress to add difficulty and complexity.I've was most impressed this year by the culture that is in place with the Stars organization. This is a very close knit, family-first group that cares about each and every kid having the best hockey experience possible. In addition to "learning to play hockey better" the kids also are taught how to challenge themselves individually, give maximum effort, be a good teammate and play the game with respect for officials and the opposing team.Yes, winning is nice and we were able to do a lot of that this year but this is not a win-at-all-cost environment. We played a challenging schedule that allowed the kids at times to fail and learn, which in the long run made them better players and a better team. In the end, we are taking away so many great memories from this season and can't wait for next year!
Stephen Leonard: We paid for equipment for the 2021 season for our 10 year old daughter. Unfortunately we were not able to commit to the 2021 season once we learned about the practice and game schedule. We have tried for months to speak with someone (Ryan Schmidt) and they have not returned our calls, responded to Facebook posts, or refunded via. Venmo as requested. We will update this post if we can resolve the issue but warn people to be VERY CAREFUL. In 15 years of being in youth sports (coaching and 3 kids playing) we have never had this experience with another league or sport. I did receive a reply with accurate information but no contact info (nor do I know the coaches name).
