Ply Gem: what do users think?
Barb Newbold: We have had the worst experience with Ply Gem Windows. In December, the snow blew in around the ill-fitting sash, and right into our bedroom! Four windows were all made incorrectly. We contacted Ply Gem via email and phone, plus our supplier contacted them numerous times. We have not heard one word back from them! So, six months later, they sent replacements. 8 sashes were installed. Of the 8, I can open just 2 of them. I cannot wash the windows from inside the home - instead, I have to go outside, remove the full screen, get on a ladder, wash the window, put the screen back on. That is not safe for a retiree. I wouldn't tell my worst enemy to use this company. Poor product, poor warranty, pitiful communication.
Ken Walker: PLY GEM and GREAT LAKES windows are fine—as in, not good, not bad, especially considering their lack of overt energy efficiency— but the customer service, warranty-relative claims department, and any person I have spoken to that works there are all disastrously bad and negatively impacting their brand, overall. I will NEVER purchase PLY GEM or GREAT LAKES windows or products ever again nor will I recommend them to anyone.
JULIA HALMAGYI: Plygem windows are horrible. I bought our house and leas then a year later most all the windows started to warp and can’t be fully closed. 300 series is a higher grade window so I was told and they still are poorly manufactured. No one at the warranty department is willing to help. Horrible customer service as well.
Matthew Beasley: I bought this house brand new two years ago, and we had all ply gem windows put in. This house is supposed to be the most energy-efficient and well-built custom home by homes by Dickerson but that will be another review. Three or four months ago, I noticed three of my windows in the front had been cracked. I looked it up, and they are known for exploding at random. The Ply Gem website says, no problem windows are covered for 8 to 10 years for random pops/cracks in the window. What a relief right? I filled out the claim months later they replied saying they wouldn't replace those windows but send a single piece of glass for the leaked gas one. What am I supposed to do with a single piece of glass? No offer to get a window company to fix it? Nothing. Terrible windows (guess that is why they are in home depot), terrible customer service, and I'll keep posting 1-star reviews till you lose enough customers to make up for what you cheated out of me.
Steve Watt: Best vinyl windows made and great warranty.
Michael Halchak: My house was finished in late 2019 with Ply Gem windows. I noticed a crack in the upper pane. The technician who replaced the glass said this was a manufacturing defect. Contacting Cornerstone Builder Brands (parent company) was worthless. Customer service denied the claim as not their responsibility more than a year after manufacture and cannot get through to anyone at corporate. Do not recommend.
Mike Brown: they have a contact number for their corporate office but yu cannot reach these ppl no matter how much yu try. it’s like they kno excatly how to avoid paying customers and employees. i will be finding other ways to reach out to upper management bc this poor communication tht they currently have i am facing a serious dilemma and i’m unable to reach someone the next step will be to a drastic one.
christie ramirez: My husband and I have been trying to reach out since Feb2022 and it is now June2022. We have a busted seal on our window and can not get in contact with anyone. Can someone assist on how to get assistance? I called this number and it rings then hangs up and the other 800 # never calls back.
Richard Ware: I’ve been waiting since August for my windows some partially came in and I am still waiting for two. It has put me behind on my inspections and holding up my loan. I can’t get siders because I can’t get my windows and they are so busy who knows when that’s going to happen. They have one lie after another about when they are going to be here. At this point I don’t know what to do.
Dianne Thomas: Ridiculous experience! Like going back to high school all over again. We are all grown ups act like it.
Lance Butler: Plygem casement windows installed in new home. One window has plastic hinge piece that is broken in half and the window can't be closed, the same window that immediately after moving into the home I couldn't get closed, Plygem sent a worker to look at it and after some 'adjustments' he said it was fine. I believe the hinge piece was broken even then and they ignored it. Now I have been trying to BUY a new piece so I can fix the window, I cannot get ANY reply from Plygem, I've called, emailed, gone back the the window retailer, NO reply at all to any of it. I will not EVER use any Plygem product again.
A Craig: I would never recommend Ply gem windows to anyone. Toll Brothers used them in our home. The windows have leaked and caused water damage/mold. Ply gem will not take any responsibility. There is mold growing on the inside of the window sills in many of the windows. Ply gems response was “the window had been damaged but it cannot be determined where or when”. They do not stand behind their product. If I could rate them a ZERO I would.
Juystafan Review: Their website is down and they never responded to my inquiry on the 9 windows I wanted a quote on.
Alicia Carter Mulligan: Beware of purchasing these windows. Quality is extremely poor. We have had multiple seals fail numerous times. Even when we were able to get them to replace the windows, the replacement windows failed.
Nighthawk: I'm very disappointed in Plygem quality control and especially the warranty department. Beware of purchasing these windows as you will have little warranty support. I have 3 windows that have failed seals, one so bad that when it rains water comes inside and damages the drywall etc. It was confirmed as a warranty claim and I received my warranty claim and work order numbers (work order # 51204). OVER A YEAR HAS GONE BY and I have not had my windows replaced. Ciji Barbour is my claim 'coordinator' and she has not been professional. She's lost all my info at least once, does not communicate or return calls or emails, and her last email two months ago had so many grammar mistakes its clear she doesn't care. The warranty manager has also ignored my communication. I am very upset with Plygem and hope that this matter can be resolved soon. My reviews can be adjusted upon completion of this valid warranty claim.
Ryan Warren: Quality is fair at best, I have had issues with my door and now when I had a warranty claim, no communication. When I call they ask for my number saying they will call back... Nothing. No email or call.. I would look elsewhere if you want better customer service.
Dan Pearson: Filed a warranty request on my lifetime warranty due to a leaking window on May 21. Called them weekly to find out when they'd process my claim. On July 20th they finally called me back told me it was likely an install issue and nothing they could do. If I want to pay out of my own pocket for someone to prove it's a window issue they'd be willing to sell me a pro-rated part.
Nohandis F: Have had to reorder the same replacement window 3 times now. The order has been placed correctly each time....but each time there is a different problem. Once it came with no screen (which was supposed to be included). Another order arrived dented up so that the window could not be installed properly. We've ordered one more time - due to very limited options for the window we need....but we desperately wish we had options with other manufacturers.
Mona Johnson: Very friendly atmosphere
Leticia Benitez: My experience is coming directly from the Payroll Dept in Cary, NC. It’s current Director is still using procedures from 2008 and while she will say she is open for change it is evident that change has not happened and will only happen due to a shift in programs and new management. Not to mention important information is rarely sent via email or documented. Expect to be called into the office with “Please come see me” instant messages for simple questions or “special projects” that are just last minute things she was tasked to do but waited until the last minute to delegate. The lack of organization, clear instructions and constant reactive approach from the director causes confusion amongst the employees. I worked there for 6 months before I was told that the way I created manual checks for CA was incorrect. Yet, that is how I was trained and the director herself had approved all of those prior checks. My trainer was bashed in multiple occasions, having to return to her notes to show the director that was how she was originally trained to do such task. The final straw came when the director failed to review audit material until the last minute and later expected the four employees working in the office(out of 8) that Friday to complete the audit. She added material to the audit and was directing from home until 10 pm and was not giving us and clear expectation if she planned to have us there all night or if we would work the next day. When requested to put the hour expectation in an email she refused. Also, exclaimed if we “would’ve done it right the first time” we wouldn’t be working on it so late. Yet, all the audit material was submitted as of Oct 2 or 3rd but we were reviewing and correcting on Oct 18.With the new management the company decided to switch from ADP to Ceridian. The director asked for volunteers for the project. Myself and two other employees volunteered (the other volunteers worked remote). When it came to opportunities to travel I was selected. I had the least amount of experience but I was the only other person in the Cary location. I later found out that the director told another one of the volunteers I was probably selected to travel because I had something to do with her boss. At the time I found it hard to believe but when another coworker overheard my director as I submitted my resignations letter repeating those same lines I knew it couldn’t have been made up. Not only was she making false accusations but she also proceeded to make it loud enough for other employees to hear.As much as I wanted to confront her directly, I went to HR to report what was happening.I not sure if any action was actually taken but I was not going to work for her any longer.
Bree Chrisman-Wise: What an awful company! I ordered windows on August 6, 2019 and was given a delivery date of 9/18/19. That date came and went, and I was given an updated delivery date of 9/25/19. That date also came and went, and I was told that the new, new, new delivery date would be 10/2/19. Well, today is 10/2/19, and the window still hasn’t arrived and no new delivery date has been provided. I have been waiting two months to move into my new house for this one window to arrive, and the only excuse I repeatedly hear is that they’re understaffed. How this is my problem I am not clear. No one from management will return my messages. It is crystal clear that customers are not a concern for PlyGem. I would highly recommend that you buy your windows from just about any other place! Do NOT purchase front PlyGem. We are basically being held hostage from our home due to their inability to keep a delivery date and they don’t even care.
