We are a family-run practice with the vision and values to bring you personalized and easy-to-access eye care.

I am a board-certified ophthalmologist, which means that I'm an eye physician and surgeon. My specialty is taking care of children, and all of their eye care. I also specialize in eye alignment (strabismus) and double vision problems in people of all ages, including adults.

Connecting with children and families is an art. From the tiniest of premature babies that I see in the hospital, to big kids, to adults, I enjoy coming up with creative ways to listen to and connect with families, to meet you where you are, and to work with you to come up with a plan.

Most of my patients do not need surgery, but when they do, I have the training and experience to operate on children and adults for eye alignment issues and other problems, from the common to the complex.

Sara F. Grace, M.D. is a board-certified ophthalmologist and specialist in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Pediatric and Adult Strabismus (ocular misalignment). She graduated with honors from the University of Missouri and received her medical degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. After a year internship at Presbyterian St. Luke’s hospital in Denver, Colorado, Dr. Grace completed her ophthalmology residency at the prestigious Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, which is ranked as the #1 ophthalmology program in the United States by U.S. News and World Report. Dr. Grace continued at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute for her Pediatric Ophthalmology fellowship. She was previously on faculty at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill prior to joining North Carolina Eye, Ear, Nose & Throat.

She is passionate about the field of pediatric ophthalmology and focuses on making an eye exam or procedure a positive experience for the child and their family. Dr. Grace has found that when a child is engaged and having fun during a clinic visit, they become comfortable with the exam and the physician can get the best information about the child’s diagnosis. Dr. Grace is also committed to ensuring that the family understands the eye disorder and reasoning behind treatment since their participation in the treatment plan is essential to improving the child’s vision.

My clinical and research interests are in childhood glaucoma, cataracts, and the management of children and adults with ocular alignment issues, called strabismus, and treatment of amblyopia. When a patient and their family visits my clinic, I want them to leave having had as much fun as possible and feeling empowered and knowledgeable about their eye issue. Respect is an important part of my patient interactions, and I use each visit as a chance to further develop our long-term relationship. When I’m not at work, I spend time with my family. We enjoy outdoors activities, such as swimming, hiking, and gardening. I also enjoy painting, pottery, and doing art projects with my child. We strive at Cary Eye Center to give each patient the best possible visual acuity. We are also excited that in March, Cary Eye Center reached its 6th Anniversary!
