The Counselor in Cary: what do users think?
Garret Woods: It's been years, but looking back now, I can see this was a harmful experience. The worst was when he laughed at me as I described an assault where I was the victim. Another time, he gave me an opinion on brain injury that I've since confirmed was inconsistent with the medical community. There were some helpful moments, but it's all a little tainted.
Will Eason: Gary is an excellent therapist and counselor. He is highly accommodating, and makes an effort to be available when you need him, whether or in person or via a phone call. His office is always clean and organized. His council can be intimidating at times, but Gary does a good job of saying what you need to hear without pushing beyond what you can process at the time. He encourages critical thinking and self evaluation to better understand the root of the behavior pattern(s) you're trying to adjust. I spent almost two years with Gary and don't regret a single session. Working with Gary has given me the tools to go forward living a life that is better aligned with my goals. I wouldn't hesitate to reach out again should the need arise.
CLJM: I cannot speak highly enough of Garry. I have been to several therapists and Garry was amazing. He was able to easily see patterns and things that I was unaware of. He quickly got to the bottom of things and was typically spot on. Garry helped me process and recover from one of the toughest times in my life and I am forever grateful.
charlene gilmore: I've been to 4-5 counselors over the last 20 years & despite my best efforts, I struggled to find the benefit. I often left with a feeling that I wasn't being challenged enough or that I didn't hear anything that I hadn't already tried or adopted as a practice. But, when I hit an all-time low 3 years ago, I made some desperate calls. And I'm fortunate that Garry called me back almost immediately. The concern and compassion I heard on that phone call (almost a mini-session with me bawling my eyes out in the middle of Target) kept me going til our first appointment. He set aside time for me every week for nearly two months until I'd gotten back to my feet and I've been going twice a month ever since. Garry's skill is in helping you find and confront the answers that are right in front of you. And develop the mechanism(s) to make actual and lasting change. I appreciate his humor and kindness, and he has been known to call a spade a spade too. I recommend calling Garry if you are looking to change some things in your life.
Justin Tallman: I look back over the last couple of years and I am amazed at how far I have been able to come. Since I have been working with Garry, I have been able to glean so much guidance and wisdom through our sessions. Garry met me where I was emotionally and mentally and helped me formulate where I wanted to be. By peeling back the layers, he helped me understand what makes me tic and how I can change the way I think and act in positive way. Not only was Garry able to help me with my immediate issue, but he also has given me the tools I need for continual improvement that I can use for the rest of my life. For all of this I am eternally grateful!
Heather: Garry is an amazing counselor. He’s emotionally intelligent and has a graceful way of being honest. He’s excellent at helping the client identify key concepts and dig deeper into what might seem like “surface” issues.By speaking with Garry I have gained insight into my past and have identified old patterns of behavior which no longer serve me. I cannot say enough good things about Garry, I am so fortunate to have worked with him!
L E.: Garrison is an excellent therapist and member of the community. He is a critical thinker with excellent listening skills and can help with a multitude of things including boundary setting and mindfulness.
Jennifer: My former husband and I went to Garry for marriage counseling to try to save our marriage. We were really struggling and unhappy. We ended up separating but it turns out that was the best decision we could have made for our relationship and our family. Garry never pushed us one way or another but instead helped us uncover the underlying issues and recurrent problems that were dragging down the marriage. He also helped us see some of our own personal issues that were negativity impacting the relationship. We both experienced a lot of self discovery and growth during our time with Garry. Our marriage is over but our happiness with each other and in life is better than it's been in years. We're grateful for the help and guidance Garry offered us.
G Ligon: Garry is a most accomplished counselor adept at listening and loaded with helpful approaches to peaceful living. Wish I had found him decades earlier. It could take a while for an appointment to open up as he is fully booked, but is worth the wait.
Kristen Lampuri: If you're looking for a counselor who truly cares, who gives insightful thoughts and direction while listening in a very approachable manner, you've found your guy. Garry is extremely intelligent and well trained, yet also very compassionate and deliberate. He has helped me pause before reacting, use intellect over emotion, and strengthen my own abilities to be strong in my own right. He's been an amazing resource during a dark time in my life and has helped me take the necessary steps in coming out the other side.
Mario Kroll: Spoke with Gary while I was going through a personal crisis and called him out of state. He returned my call immediately, was very helpful even on a brief call. He's a down-to-earth, no-bullshit, yet non-judgmental pragmatist that listens well, comes up with holistic ideas regardless of what your issues are, and all around is the best mental health professional I've seen. His space is comfortable, non-pretentious and inviting, and my sessions with Gary fly by, usually with at least a handful of immediately implementable insights that have improved the quality of my life and those around me. I highly recommend Gary as counselor especially if dealing with trauma, addiction, depression, relationship issues, and similar situations.
M Kedvesi: Garry Murray has been a great help guiding me and my wife through the issues that have emerged with raising three teenagers. His logical approach and practical advice has given us confidence to handle the complex issues in a blended family. I highly recommend Garry for anyone seeking results-driven counseling and expert guidance.
Anthony Bizzaro: More of a thank you than a review. Garry is kind, patience, and empathic. He's a great listener, and he understands. At the same time, Garry was able to help me accept reality, consider my motives, and modify my behavior.Therapy isn't easy if you're doing it right, but it's worth it. "The only way past is through." With Garry's help, I found what I sought for so many years. I didn't just trade one attachment for the next. I worked on developing a truer sense of self and purpose. If you're here, go. Sit in the far chair. Let down your guard, just a bit. See what happens. What can you lose at this point, right?
Adrienne Robinson: I would highly recommend Gary...he helped me get through a difficult time. I have and will continue to recommend him!
Sue Rakes - SRP admin: I have searched high and low for a caring, capable, and competent therapist for many years! Garry has been a genuine gift in my life and has helped me grow immeasurably. Garry really genuinely listens and has a fabulous blend of humor and sympathy to share at the right times. His recommendations have been great a great guidance for me through some very dark times, and his energy and his understanding of bigger principles have helped me to see my life with a different perspective. I have trusted Garry in my life for several years and am so grateful for his authentic help.
V V: Want to learn how to think out your problems on your own? This is the guy you need to see! Absolutely the best!!! Highly recommended!
Mary Reiss: I have known Garry for some time and greatly respect his skill as a clinician. He is one of the brightest and most talented therapists in the field. Garry really understands issues at their core and can break down concepts and therapeutic paths in a way that is practical.I have recommended clients to Garry and feel confident that any one I send to him will truly benefit from working with him.
James Campbell: Gary is great I have been his client for 7 years and it has been worth it. He is caring and listens very well and give you suggestions to help you make your own choices. He makes you think. Keep up the great work
Barbara Toth: I've been to other counselors in the past for long standing personal issues but have never felt the hope and progress I feel with Garry. His approach is proactive, direct, honest, and professional. Garry applies extensive professional knowledge with personal warmth and a sincere desire to help. I have recommended his service to others for marriage counseling and they have expressed that their marriage has been strengthened and they actively practice methods Garry has taught to change destructive behaviors. I trust Garry as an informed and intuitive guide and highly recommend him to anyone seeking counseling.
Patricia Blossom: Like many my life is complicated. I needed a counselor who operates with integrity, strong ethics and would offer special attention to complicated issues.Garry is very engaging and explains things well. His office is a safe, pleasant space for me and I like to go there. This helps me think in ways I did not before. Sometimes this is challenging, but he is comfortable to work with.I have gained a lot of strengths from this relationship and I do indeed recommend his services!
Barbara Friedewald: Garry is helping me wade through some sad and angry feelings resulting from the crash of my 25 year marriage. He is a real human being whose commitment to his clients is based on his education, training, and experience. His informal style and his comprehensive understanding of human behavior put me at ease from the beginning. My time with him has been affirming, fluid, thought-provoking and interactive. He has encouraged me to use intellect over emotion and to take charge of my life. He has given me language to describe random feelings in a comfortable and positive environment. He has a gentle but firm way of challenging my life-long beliefs, some of which need discarding.I would recommend his services (and have, actually) to anyone who would like to talk to someone who listens. I’ve thought about talking to a therapist many times before. This time I took action to my great benefit. It has been two years since I first consulted Garry . We meet less often now than in the beginning. His treatment has adapted to offering suggestions for living my best life. His insight and empathy during crisis and beyond is a gift.

Thriveworks Counseling & Psychiatry Cary: what do users think?
Chill hill: Hayden Blaine is an outstanding therapist. Had the honor of working with her and seen her ability to make a positive impact on patients and people she works with. The ability to taylor treatment to each person as an individual while simultaneously challenging you to spark your growth is something she does well.
lindsay rand: Hayden Blaine is truly one of the best therapists I have ever worked with! Having worked with her in an outpatient treatment center, I have never seen a therapist care so much for her clients and want the best for them. She can tailor her care to many types of people, and has made a profound impact on those she has both counseled and worked with.
Tracy Vrban: I had a really bad experience with Thriveworks and do not recommend them. After my initial telehealth counseling appointment, the therapist never showed up for my 2nd appointment and there was never any follow up from anyone after I reported this. Overall I experienced a high level of unprofessionalism with lack of concern for my mental health care.
Debbie Martin: Nahiris is an amazing counselor. She exudes patience, compassion, and understanding. I was able to work with her on an inpatient psychiatric unit for adolescents and children. There, she connected with all types of kids and teens to help them work through issues and to have self-compassion.
Ana Mims: I wanted to write a quick review to state how wonderful Nahiris is! She has so many diverse experiences to draw from that make her incredibly empathetic and trauma-informed. She is so open-minded and thoughtful, and it creates such a healing and welcoming space for her clients. Anyone who is looking for a therapist should definitely consider Nahiris!
Brooke: Nahiris is a thoughtful, compassionate, and competent therapist. She makes her clients feel safe and heard through the difficulties of life. Anyone would be lucky to work with a non-judgmental and caring therapist like Nahiris!
Britney Karschner: Dr. Bell is such an incredible therapist and I could not have been matched up with someone more compatible. God truly knew who I needed when I was on the hunt for a therapist. She has helped me change my mindset about how I perceive myself, especially in a more positive manner and has helped me via talk therapy and EDMR through a very traumatic experience. She has brought me through my lowest lows in the grieving process and has helped me process through my unexpected loss. She has helped me laugh again, gain confidence in myself and has made me realize how much of a baller of a mom and human I am. She has the kindest and warmest heart and I swear she knows me better than I know myself. She is truly amazing at what she does and God has blessed me with her.
Alexis Coates: Dr. Deborah Bell is full of relevant wisdom, useful tools, and kindness. I would recommend her to my family, my friends, couples, and/or anyone in need of counseling services!
Dan Borland: EMDR has been a life changer for me after struggling for so many years with anxiety. Dr. Bell is a true professional who is not only adept at EMDR, but a superb talk therapist as well.
Tish: Wish I could leave zero stars. So unprofessional and incompetent
Shelby Lewis: Dr. Bell is truly a phenomenal therapist and I have had the pleasure of working with her through talk therapy and EMDR. I can’t thank her enough for how much she has helped me transform my mindset and work through my childhood trauma. I would recommend Dr. Bell to anyone who wants to transform their life, she really is one of the best!
Sarah Boothe: Did intake but no one called us back or communicated with us after following up. Very disappointing especially since people are coming to them with hopes of resolving their problems.
John Beam: I went to four sessions with some lady named Powell. At the end of our fourth session she told me she was dumping me on someone else.
Angela Hall: I advise everyone to stay clear of this company. Don't make an appointment via phone with them either. I made the appointment after speaking to them once. Before appointment day even came, I received notice they had attempted to draft $98 from my bank account. The only thing I was ever told was there was a $10 fee. Needless to say, I canceled all services.
Bo C.: You have to get on a payment plan that you can't cancel. Told the therapist that I was meeting with that I no longer required services and was still charged. Tried to call and end my subscription and request a refund but the business line had technical difficulties.
Cameron McCurty: I currently see Dr. Deborah Bell. She has been absolutely amazing. I began seeing her last year after my mother passed away from Brain Cancer. Dr. Bell's attention to detail, kindness, and overall demeanor is amazing! I look forward to our biweekly session and I recommend therapy to everyone I know because of her. She has truly changed my life for the better. I HIGHLY recommend her! She is an absolute gem!
Darlene J. Mcclinton: Great place and my therapist is great as well. Great listener! Liana K. Nelson, LPC, LCMHC, SATP
Meredith Elmore: I highly recommend Liana Nelson! She is really into the conversation that you’re having with her and helps you find a way to understand the issues you’re having.
Tracey Dearing: I highly recommend Liana Nelson she really focuses on your personalized needs. She cares so much!
Keitia Brooks: I would highly recommend Dr. Bell to anyone who is seeking professional counseling services. After numerous failed attempts of being able to locate a reputable and qualified therapist, I was fortunate to come across Dr. Bell's profile; and was able to schedule a counseling session immediately. She's extremely thoughtful and is a great listener. She remains honest with her clients regarding expectations and accountability to help achieve personal goals established. Dr. Bell has assisted me with navigating some challenging moments in my life; and I am forever grateful for her services.
Ragaiela Sanford: Turiya is such a great listener, and offers the room for me to explore my thoughts and feelings openly. She works with me while I try to figure out what I’m going through. It’s great.

Etheridge Psychology, P.A.: what do users think?
Crystal Tate: Dr. Roy is very honest and user friendly. The front desk staff was extremely helpful. This is the best appointment I have attended in a while. Thank you team.
Daniel Dix: In hindsight, I regret not having looked at the reviews for Etheridge before my visit. I was referred to this practice for a specialized assessment, but unfortunately, the process was prolonged by weeks and months due to Dr. Roy Etheridge's schedule. During the assessment, I found Dr. Etheridge's approach to questioning and his final assessment lacking in professional demeanor. Upon consulting with two additional psychologists, they agreed that the assessment lacked evidential support and was written in an unprofessional manner. Furthermore, I discovered that Dr. Etheridge had failed to contact the referring party, a crucial step that should have been taken. Thoroughly unimpressed with this group.
S A A Legacy Prints & Paper: FYI:They do not take anything but blue cross for evaluations. Misleading information on site for everyone
Fire Side Confessions: They asked me my insurance information 10x and what type of psychological help I needed 0x, if that helps you make a decision about this place, you're welcome, hopefully you won't waste your time
Hannah Daulton: Etheridge Psychology treats their patients, colleagues, and clinicians with professionalism, kindness, and support. As a past employee, I highly recommend their practice and refer to them regularly.
Laura Shank: I have been seeing Dr Roy over 6 years now, could not recommend this practice more. When I had trouble with my insurance they worked with me to figure it out. When I was hospitalized for my mental illness, Dr Roy worked with the hospital, and also called to check on me.
Karen Taggart: I highly recommend you look elsewhere. I was unimpressed with all aspects of their services.
Adrian Park: Had my initial evaluation with them and they had the "perfect" person for me who happened to be their most junior member. Two sessions later and the junior staff member decides she doesn't have enough experience to treat me and recommends another practice. Waste of time.
Jeremy Lea: Overall they were okay in regards to the evaluation and feedback process. The big issue I have is afterwards I asked follow up questions and was promised some additional information (referrals, tips on how to use info from the evaluation) and got nothing. So now I feel more confused that I did before the process started. I paid out of pocket, so I almost wonder if that’s why I suddenly wasn’t worth more consistent communication.
Michelle Martin: I highly recommend this practice! I have been going there for quite sometime and the therapy is wonderful, everyone is very nice and upbeat and they are so professional! Dr MaryAnne Etheridge has helped me so much!
Bena Steffann: I contacted Etheridge on 9/9 to talk about an eval. “Step 1” was the next day 9/10. In a short period of time I had to fill out a lot of personal information regarding a minor, I also had to pay $40 (despite the fact my deductible had been met in 2/20), & then the next morning even more paperwork was required as I had two virtual learners in session and a toddler in hand. On 9/9 I was told my insurance would cover services ( my insurance company is listed as one of the few that they accept on their website). Then I was told by someone in the office the next morning 9/10, ONE hour prior to my parental intake appointment, that additional paperwork was required and that deductible starts over in 9/20 (so hasn’t been met - what?) Upon calling my insurance company that I have had for 8 years, I was told that indeed Etheridge was incorrect, and that my deductible was met in early 2020 and wouldn’t start over until 1/2) to date, I have yet to receive a reimbursement for the $40 - which isn’t the biggest problem. Upon speaking with the insurance person @ Etheridge and her telling me my insurance co. denied all diagnostic codes, I reached out on a 3-way call to my insurance company. Because after question Etheridge’s need to submit diagnostic codes without a diagnosis, she became very defensive. I was then told by my insurance company that Etheridge had provided them with EIGHT diagnostic codes when there hadn’t even an appointment with my child to obtain a diagnosis! In fact, the first Telehealth appointment (9/10) was just a parental intake (which never ended up occurring by Dr. Meares choice. Yet they ushered out codes to my insurance company so that they could begin billIng. Being that I hadn’t had an initial Parental intake conversation via Telehealth, how would it even be appropriate to to bill my insurance company for services not rendered. My insurance company agreed & the insurance person from Etheridge abruptly and rudely left the call. Assured by my insurance company that I handled myself completely appropriately, 30 minutes later I was called & accused by Dr. Meares of calling ‘Cass‘ (their insurance person) a “liar.” I assured her nothing of the sort happened, and my inswas privy to the entire portion of the conversation with Cass, until Cass abruptly hung up on us after Aetna informed her that she couldn’t use those EIGHT codes & would have to give them one that was related to initial parental intake call. All this being said, I have release to them multiple personal forms about my minor child. Because I was in my right (as prayer) to question their coding, I was given a defensive, rude attitude and horrible sendoff. My guess is that’s because (according to Aetna’s records), Cassandra @ Etheridge provided a laundry list of diagnostic codes when there was NOT a single diagnosis given! Dr. Meares hadn’t even completed the intake conversation with parent (step 1 9/10) to get more information about the child and to se rid proceeding with us or us with them was even necessary - but go give an insurance 8 diagnostic codes. To have a doctor hang up on (Dr. Meares) on me when having an equal participant, civil conversation that was not heated (even after she told me that Cass accused me of being a liar) really speaks volumes about their practice. It’s disheartening when a parent looks to a doctor for potential care of his/her child and as a result of Doctor’s office lack of overall humility and ownership of their internal mishandling of reporting DIAGNOSTIC codes to my insurance company sans an actual EVALUATION and DIAGNOSIS, things were turned on the me. What a horrible accusation, by a doctor of medicine, falsely claiming I called a liar. I was about to trust her with care for my childCall your insurance co & double-check the codes they have submitted, otherwise you will (potentially) be billed for services not rendered when a doctor diagnosis was never given.I never leave public reviews, this one is necessary bc @ the end it was a child who lost out because their parent did her due-diligence.
Tyler Smith: Could've told me my diagnosis within 5 min but instead charged me over $500 dollars and wasted a lot of my time. Didn't help at all, wouldn't recommend.
Brenda Johnson: They helped me through a very difficult time in my life. I was uneasy about seeing a counselor but she put me at ease and it was very helpful. Everyone at Etheridge psychology was kind and professional.
Tyrone Hightower: The evaluator was great! The therapist was a little weird and I don't think that the therapy helped at all, even though my daughter is at her 7th session.
Dustin R: Very professional! I had the privilege of speaking with Dr. Roy Etheridge and would recommend him to anyone
Vinay Saranga: I had the pleasure of meeting Drs. Roy and Mary Anne Etheridge last year, and they are a very warm and friendly couple. I have been happy to refer my clients to their practice, because I know that my clients will receive thorough and thoughtful care from them.

One-Eighty Counseling: what do users think?
Amber Davidson: Peggy Wallace is the most outstanding, compassionate, and amazing therapist. She is so genuine, a great listener, and always has the right things to say. One-eighty is truly life changing.
Kristina Fisher: Would not recommend, I was seeing a therapist here and lost my job and tried to come back , it was agreed to pay the balance in full before being seen and then she can see me well the agreed upon day came and I just had a daughter had to get diapers and milk. So I was trying to reschedule and pay the renaming the following week. Well Tamara the therapist filled my spot according to the billing department then said I would have to get on the waiting list which was fine. Then I got a call back and she wouldn’t see me at all. It’s unfair to me for one it’s a lack of communication that was never agreed upon if so I would have made sure to pay extra. So I guess she refused me but that should have been said instead of lying that she had a waiting list etc. Would not recommend Tamara or the miscommunication from the staff
Jessica Foushee: One Eighty Counseling is too big of a chain of clinics to truly meet the needs of those in desperate need of help. I was supposed to originally see the owner, Sarah Coates. She specializes in working with women who've gotten out of abuse and are dealing with trauma/PTSD and the heartbreak of divorce. However, due to my new insurance not taking effect in time for my first appointment seeing her, I had to reschedule. I was very apologetic about needing to reschedule and told her it was outside of my control because of health insurance . I felt she was not interested in taking me on as a new patient once she found out that I am not wealthy and could not afford $175 to see her for intake. She handed me over to another therapist who turned out to not be in-network with my new insurance. Everything got messed up as I had planned on seeing Ms. Coates and took out the new insurance specifically to see her. Ms. Coates knew I am in dire need of help as I am struggling with trauma/PTSD after getting away from a narcissistic abusive husband and am dealing with going through a divorce. It's truly SAD that someone like myself gets turned away and my phone calls are ignored because of health insurance. What happened to having a heart to help the hurting and broken? Especially a woman? I am writing this review for the Cary office because they are the last One Eighty Counseling clinic which I tried contacting to schedule a new patient appointment. They never returned my phone calls! Sarah Coates told me two of the therapists at this location are in-network with my insurance but she never checked back with me to see if I was able to get an appointment. I wasted over two months waiting and trying to get help from this place. Evrything looked good at the beginning when I was scheduled to see Sarah Coates but once I had to reschedule, it was a total nightmare.I am a person who never writes bad reviews - it takes a pretty bad experience to push me to do so. I wrote this to warn others to look elsewhere. There are smaller counseling clinics out there who have a heart for the hurting and broken.
amy lare: The counselor I met with was great, however I was told over the phone I had no copay. I checked w my insurance and the front desk at 180. They both said that. I double checked when I got there, still said zero payment. The next day I get a call that there was a mistake and I owe $120. I understand that happens so I paid. Then, a few weeks later I get a bill for another 70 something dollars. So what went from a zero cost out of my pocket turned into almost $200. I know seeing a therapist can be expensive but I would have never went for that price. So they can just say any price and change it afterwards. That’s bad for business. I had spoken to someone who said they’d look into it but of course they called for their payment anyways. It’s sad how unaffordable mental health assistance is. I would not recommend dealing with this business.
David Garlow: The counselors are contractors, not employees. My counselor missed several appointments with no advance notice. The front office staff did not seem to care.
Indira Velasquez: Erica Smith has been absolutely wonderful. I highly recommend her, she has been a huge asset in helping my family get through a very difficult time. Erica is always punctual and upfront, I can not say enough good things about her style of counseling.
Ed: I turned my life around!
Hannah Nealey: I refer many patients to 180 and they all come back to me saying how great their experience was. They are all top notch there.
Eden Santana: I have been coming to 180 for over a year now. I’ve seen Phill as well as Julie. I think the lady who posted the bad review may have been in a bad state of mind and set a session up around the holidays… I have been coming to 180 for over year now. I’ve seen Phill as well as Julie. I think the lady who posted the bad review may have been in a bad state of mind and set a session up around the holidays… The therapists here are great and work as a team. There’s only one office person, so perhaps the person who posted it on a day that the receptionist may have been out sick or something. I think reviews are more fair when you’ve been coming to see therapists for a while versus one visit and one bad experience waiting. I have recommended this therapy office to quite a few friends. I highly recommend this therapy center for anyone who is looking for quality therapists who really care.
