REI: what do users think?
Colorado Lions: I recently purchased a Yakima cargo box from REI Cary. Mark (from the bikes department) was extremely helpful with providing guidance on the install of my new equipment. I felt more confident driving down the road, and I'm thankful for his help. Will certainly be back to shop in the near future!
Ali Baba: Much bigger store than the North Hill location. Upon entering we were greeted and directed to the section we needed. At the shoes side had an associate who helped us navigate through the different types of jogging and running shoes. Only thing was that they did not carry Merrel running g shoes which is available online.
Rusty Shackelford: On a recent visit I found REI was still outstanding! They were having an anniversary sale and the place was packed! Even with it being a mad house the staff did not rush me when I had a question and were complete and very nice during the process. I also found some great deals in the used/bargain area which turned out great! It's always a highlight of my day when I am able to get to REI!
Rosalind Ellwood: Went to Cary NC REI several times during extremely busy 10 days of sale. Very impressed at how everyone & everything flowed so smoothly despite the chaotic crowds. Meredith & her register team professionally & calmly slogging through their long lines. All the floor team were engaging, helpful & happy to do whatever they could despite the strenuous hours & crowds. This store always has a Karma about it that one doesn’t realize is different from most stores including other REI locations. It’s because of Jim Bennet & other management’s philosophy & dedication. It makes one happy to support them by purchasing there.Cary store rocks!
Daniel Holleman: Went in to purchase a jacket and after wedding in an extremely long line was told I was not even able to purchase the jacket and unless I purchased their membership
April Williams: We have regularly shopped at this REI. We always find the staff helpful. Checkout is usually pretty fast. We have found some good items in their clearance section located at the front of the store. There are often clearance shoes in the shoe department too. They have bathrooms near the bike department. Their parking lot is paved and shared with other stores. We have never had a problem finding a parking space.
AdventureAttorney: Went into REI to fix a bike tire, and it was their anniversary sale. Made out with some great deals and new Rainbow flip flops for cheap!
Diane DeBruine: I went to REI looking for new shoes. I live 1 hour and 10 minutes from the closest REI. So a 2 hour 20 minute trip for new shoes. The return policy is amazing which is why I choose to shop at REI. I found a shoe that I liked but the top of one shoe and the laces were dirty. I take good care of my shoes and when I buy them new I don't like for them to be dirty. When I told the sales women they were dirty she said it was no big deal. That the shoes were fine. But if I'm going to spend $200 on shoes I'd like for them to be clean. She didn't offer to get me a different clean pair in the same size. Poor customer service at the Cary REI.
Michael: Shopped for footwear …salesperson more interested in her cellphone than customer service …went to Durham store where I had the opposite experience…very helpful employees there …highly recommend the extra few miles to the Durham REI !!
Bill Snodgrass: My wife, my daughter and I all bought things. And had I practiced less restraint I would have bought more. Mary waited on me and was fabulous. upon learning that my wife and daughter were hiking Mt. Leconte she was full of information.
Ethan Aliff: Excellent customer service and great products for outdoor activities!
Michael Carter: Wonderful place to shop ! LOTS to choose from , and customer service is friendly, knowledgeable, helpful , and patient ! The manager of this store seems to be really good at choosing the staff .
Brittany Graham: Went in this to get fitted for and purchase new hiking boots. Despite the store being relatively empty, it seems that the employees would rather talk amongst themselves than help a customer who is patiently waiting. I left without getting any sort of service. They will not get my business.
Say: Great selection of outdoor stuffs! Staffs are friendly and helpful! Bathroom in good.
vanessa koliadko: It was suggested that I take my son to REI to be properly fitted for his hiking backpack. I would like to say that we had a very awesome experience. He and I have never done anything like this before and Mark and Shannon were both phenomenal with making sure we understood everything we needed to know about our packs and the proper fitment. One of our bags was brand new and the other was donated to us. The donated one ended up having dry rotted sinch straps and we discussed the need to have those replaced. I also asked Shannon if there were any packs she would recommend for myself and she lead me to one that fit me very well and best of all it was on sale. I highly recommend these folks if you need any information on backpacking. A+ from me.
Rebecca Hunt: I wandered into REI looking for a backpack. I had looked at all the other usual stores and was disappointed. REI had just what I was looking for. I was very excited. REI is the perfect store for everything you need for outdoor activities. REI has everything you need, from hiking and camping to any outdoor activity. Clothing to cooking and everything in between. The associates are friendly and helpful. You should wander in and check out their merchandise! I am sure you will find items that you need at a great price! Enjoy your shopping trip in REI.
John Glass: First time here, was surprised to find at checkout the item we wanted was “members only”. Would be nice to have signs or something for that with the item. Shout out to Ali who was very helpful, completely the opposite of Melissa who refused to even look in our “non member” direction. Melissa, next time try telling new shoppers about the program instead of just yelling across the checkout to your peer that we can’t buy it.
Joshua Chory: Not a great selection of gloves for adults at any of the locations
Amy M.C.: Love REI!
Earl Struble: Place looked picked through, long lines but the service staff was super friendly and moved you quickly.
John Cawthorne: REI…really excellent inventory. We are always impressed with offering, prices and service. Win!

Alpine Ski Center: what do users think?
Jon Patton: They have it all here. Way less marked up than other ski stores. Team that works here is extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Buy your winter ski needs here.
Hiedi Wilson: Well stocked and clean.
Melissa Allegretto: Great service and selection. Bought new ski boots and Rob was very helpful with a lot of options to offer.
Michael Feigin: Good, professional staff. While their sister store in Banner Elk offers discounts to ski patrollers, this store doesn't, unfortunately.
Catherine Mielke: Big thank you to John and the team in the service department! I received a surprise ski getaway and needed a 2 day turn around on an inspection and basic test/wax and they made it happen so I could hit the slopes asap! (Bought some boots and poles here years ago and they are still in great shape, too!)
Tim P: I called ahead and ask the time frame to have a pair of ski boots scretched, the lady told me on the phone the turn around was same day and to just come in, only for me to drive an hour to find out it would take a week for them to get to it. Well now I'm out time, work, and gas.
Teddy: The staff were really nice and very chill, great service and keep up the great work.
Dylan Cramer: Great store. Folks working there are super helpful. Snowboard selection was a bit limited, probably hard to keep stock in, but I got what I was looking for.
Charles Prior: Great selection, great prices, great staff. Everything I’ve bought here has been cheaper than online (often significantly) and they have a great selection of gear I actually want to buy.
Michael Santelia: Haven’t been here in a while. Prices for jackets and pants are actually on par with online retailers. Wish the selection was bigger, but we’re not exactly a ski town.
David Brewster: Stopped in to see if they had a pair of boots that fit my son and had a very pleasant experience. Brad took his time measuring both feet and brought out several selections to try on. Our family did not feel rushed even though the store was busy - he was able to address other customers' needs/inquiries and never made us feel like we were a bother. After my son decided on what we would bring home today, Brad gladly helped fit me up as well even though I had advised I would not by buying for myself right now. He gave excellent customer service and from listening to him helping others, has a ton of experience figuring out what may be causing various problems they are having. Highly recommend without any reservations - thank you!!!
Jen S: Very helpful staff and good inventory of ski and snowboard equipment and clothing.
Jamie Mancuso: Recently brought our entire family in for new boots and skis. We had a fantastic experience at Alpine Ski Center. Todd took his time to help each one of us try on several pair of boots to ensure we had the best fit. He helped us choose skis based on our experience level and expectations on the slope. He was patient, friendly and kind. We highly recommend Alpine Ski Center in Raleigh!
Roger Worthington: Laid back, informative, but not pushy. Great selection.
Remy Plitz: They had everything we needed for Breckinridge!
Kon Chen: Alpine Ski Center is the best ski shop in Raleigh! The staff is always friendly and willing to help. I mainly come here to have my snowboards tuned and repaired and they do a great job every time. They will inspect the gear with you and recommend only services that are needed. It is a perk to have such an amazing establishment in Raleigh to help keep my gear in the best shape so I can spend more time on the slopes!
JONATHAN OWENS: WONDERFUL!!!!
Michelle Kallam: When I visited Alpine, they had no inventory. I’m asked when they would be getting more and the guy working only said…”I have no idea”. I’ll try again because I like supporting them. They just need to have something I can buy.
James Welch: The young fella that helped me was excellent! Need say anything else!
Stephanie Abee: Outstanding service-- staff is helpful, friendly and patient. Look forward to renting our ski gear here every year!
Mike Scott: I've been shopping at Alpine for over 20 years. Rob, I've known him for most of those 20. I take my boards and skis there to edged and waxed. I trust my families safety on their expertise and knowledge. Rob always takes the time to explain and educate. Watch out for those 'windholes' bruh!!!

REI: what do users think?
Joseph McLaughlin: Great place for hiking preparation.
Ed Karjala: Mostly disappointed every time I visit. Mediocre selection, and with one exception out of a dozen visits, staffed by inattentive and poorly informed individuals. Sad.
Gordon C. H. Drake: Amazingly helpful staff at every turn! Thanks!
E Ray: Corporate REI is illegally preventing employees here to vote for a union in a reasonable amount of time. By postponing the vote, corporate REI is hoping the 10 new employees they hired will swing the vote. The store manager has also placed an employee on administrative leave without reason or communication. This is blatant retaliation and Union busting. This review is for Corporate REI, and has nothing to do with the employees of this location, who all deserve 5 stars. Let Durham vote!!!
L: REI Durham has currently put an employee on administrative leave for his involvement in trying to form a local union. While I like REI’s products, this behavior shows no regard for their employees’ wellbeing or humanity, and I’m deeply disappointed in the management. I will be buying online or at other REI locations because I believe in workers’ rights.@REI Durham management, I hope you do correct your actions so that your employees are treated humanely as fellow human beings.
Ezra Byrd: REI is retaliating against its employees that are legally fighting for a living wage, safety and a union. Do not shop here until REI acknowledges the demands of its workers.
Kenneth Kreider: First and last time in that store, I went in just to check it out as I have never been in a REI. I walked around for about 15 minutes I didn't get a Hi or a can I help you and I walked past 5 or 6 employees, so I don't think I will go back because you didn't get a second chance to make a first impression.
Austin S: Great employees - curious about that union busting though?
Chris Gordon: Staff is incredibly knowledgeable and were super helpful in getting my son fitted for backpacking.
Chloe Wellons: Some tough outdoor provision company in Durham NC. Sent me an email that my curbside pickup order was ready but when I immediately drove to the store, they said they had canceled curbside pick up due to rain. Over priced. Go to Amazon.
Hal Sandick: Knowledgeable staff, great return policy, quality goods.
Oak Miller: Good location and staff
Shannon Pinnell: Blake in the shoe department was incredibly helpful in finding my next pair of hiking boots. He was very knowledgeable, listened to my wants and needs, asked great questions to get a better idea of what would work for me, and recommended some perfect options. He was also juggling a number of customers seamlessly. Would come back to Blake for my next pair!
Beverly Abbott: No black Wrightsocks.
Amber Chase: No signs on the door for not allowing dogs. This store sells RoughWear for dogs. They have camping gear for dogs. No open food is sold in this store. We spent over 30mins walking around browsing before a store rep came up to us, to ask if he was a service dog. I would understand if he was rowdy or barking; that would be completely understandable in that case. If you google REI for dog policies it; shows they are dog friendly as long as they are polite. The only thing I could finally dig up for them not allowing dogs is a tweet from 2018. This needs to be clearly outlined either for all stores on the corporate site or per each store front doors. According to this store it's not the same policy for all stores, in essence they can pick and chose which rules they want to follow.
Chip Gentry: Jackie was amazingly helpful. We had a difficulty and she sorted it out zip-zap. We love her assistance every time we visit.
Sarah Carter: Tracy was super helpful and had tons of patience with us as we asked a bunch of questions regarding the right gear for a big upcoming trip. She and Eliza were kind and straightforward with lots of great info and support. We will be back to this REI for all of our outdoor needs!
Shane Hunt: Staff are great, but they are too expensive
Paul Lascara: Alice and Esteban (apologize if misspelled) were super helpful!
Francis Ferrell: They have a good selection of outdoor great but everything seems way over priced to me
isabella gonzalez: Love to come to this store!! but Today our cashier Jerremy went above and beyond . Great customer service .:) Happy holidays !!!

REI: what do users think?
chan ham: Friendly staff and excellent location. However, my brompton was not ready as email and forgotten. Make sure you call to see your order status rather than just trusting email notifications.
Christopher Sanderford: They have it if you need it for your outdoor experience. Just be prepared to hunt parking due to being at the mall
Kayla: I am very delayed to getting this review up, but I wanted to give a special shout out to Reid, Lilly, and Beck. You guys were all so welcoming and warm which was very much needed for the time I was experiencing. Reid especially did an amazing job setting me up for success in order to live comfortably out of my car. He was very thoughtful and kept my best interests in mind when showing me around the store and picking out what I would and would not need. I’ve been to many REI stores and am a member, I can full heartedly say that this team fully exemplifies what I have come to benchmark as the REI experience and why I will only ever go to this outdoor store. You all showed me a kindness during a dark time in my life which I will never forget. Thanks again for providing both the products and knowledge I needed to be safe on the road.
Jonathon Cesaro: As always very knowledgeable friendly staff.
H. Gutierrez: GREAT store, very nice staff, and a good long-distance hiking class
James Willcox: Unparalleled customer service and customer care. Knowledgeable staff committed to helping customers not just selling products. REI is committed to the ecological balanced partnership between people and the enjoyment of the outdoors.
Summer Hedges: We picked up a roof box that we ordered online. The team members encouraged us to park at the loading dock, helped us open the box, inspect for any issues, and walked us through installation and gave us a lot of tips for use. So friendly and helpful, even on a busy weekend day. If we had to figure it out on our own, I am sure it would take 3 times as long! This will enable us to take an awesome trip with our pups later this month!
Patrick Dalton: Friendly and attentive staff, very helpful!
Lifting Covered: I’m sharing my experience in case it helps others. I’m sure it didn’t help that. This is the first time I’ve ever been into this mixed use development area and it was nice weather on a Saturday, hence very crowded.I ordered a bike rack to pick up from this location. It took me some effort to figure out where to park, and my only option was the parking garage. For pick up, you need to stand in line for the regular checkout counter. When it was my turn, the associate was able to locate the rack and because of the size it was on a dolly. I asked if I am able to bring my car because I parked in the garage. The situation was new for them so they said I should be able to park in the curbside pick up spot and not get towedIf you do this, be prepared to go back inside to get your item, load it and then bring the dolly back to them. Next time I’ll either do curbside or go to another location that’s more easily accessible.
Ca'ren Hudson: I came in for what I called my “hiking starter pack” and each and every employee I talked to was beyond helpful. Want to give a special shout-out to Cameron, Morgan & Beck who helped me find my pack and my shoes. I can’t wait to keep coming back!
Joel Oliver: Always helpful staff. And love the dividend
Luis Suarez: Loved that the team took the time to help me find the right size boots. Great customer service.
J Greens (therealjgreens): Several super friendly people here. Great experience.
Michael Shanken: Neat store with anything you need to enjoy the outdoors. Hiking, camping, biking, rock climbing, whatever you need, they have it. Friendly staff are always willing to help. This location is 2 stories, but there is an elevator in addition to the stairs.
Michael Saunders: Great customer service
Alison Williams: Had to exchange an item and Jack was so helpful and so accommodating during the transaction. I always have a good experience here.
Muniba Khan: This was my first time at REI and I had a great experience. We came to get hiking shoes/boots before an upcoming trip to Asheville. We knew absolutely nothing about hiking shoes and the staff was so incredibly helpful and spent a lot of time with us explaining the different options and technologies in the shoes. I left as a new REI member and with a pair of shoes I'm really excited about!
Tyler Satterwhite: Stick to selling outdoor equipment and chill with politicized marketing and branding.
Sarah Matthews: This location has the most helpful and friendly staff. Great selection, too.
Mr Reese: I got my bike from REI. The staff is friendly and helpful and their rewards program is awesome!
Patrick Lynch: Great medium sized store. If they dont have the color or size you're looking for, you or the staff can order the right thing from the website for delivery to your house (sometimes a delivery fee) or to the store (no extra fee). Employees are usually very helpful. Nice, laid back atmosphere. Seems like the men's clothing selection has gotten smaller in the past couple of years, but the kids section looks like it has expanded.
