Jackie Herod: The Wine Shop was built in RiverGate a few years after my husband and I purchased our house in The Crossings in 2006 located about 1.5 miles from RiverGate.My husband and I went there often after it opened (I believe 2008) and for the most part enjoyed the quaintness of it, above average food, the better selection of wine, listening to Peaches on a Thursday evening and the close proximity from our house.The food has always leaned toward being “creatively above par” due to quality ingredients and skills of the Chef.My husband passed in 2017.I recently felt isolated in my home of 17 years; yet, I didn’t like eating out alone.I decided to get out and become social again; so, I went to The Wine Shop and sat at the bar as a widowed senior woman to enjoy the food, wine and social aspect with people in my community.I have been enjoying red wine over the fall/winter at home; but, decided to switch to a lighter wine for the summer as I try to become social again.When I went back to The Wine Shop with my agenda stated above I did a tasting of white wines from Spain and France. Over a 3-4 day period I went there everyday, spending top dollar, tipping generously and experiencing mutual respect between me and the staff. I felt social again.My positive experience was very short lived as a few evenings ago I went there expecting another enjoyable experience. I sat in the proximity of my usual barstool and expected the usual quality treatment.I picked out another white wine from Spain and asked for a taste. The taste was alright and I agreed to having a bottle.When the server brought the bottle I immediately noticed the bottle was larger than the quality bottles I had previously tried and it was Rosé.I told the server it was not what I ordered and she said, “Yes it is”. I emphatically said, “No, it’s not. Why are you switching wines on me?The manager overheard our conversation and said she told the server to switch the wine.The manager said, “I don’t think it’s that big of a deal” and slapped down her bar mop. She said, “Do you expect me to tell you ever time I switch out wines”.I said, “As a paying customer, I think it’s a big deal and Yes, I expect you to tell me.”I got up and left to find a substitute place to have dinner until The Wine Shop in my community gets a more qualified, professional, customer oriented Manager with the knowledge and appreciation for fine wines.After all, it is “The Wine Shop”. Please don’t embarrass me and my community by hiring a Manager who thinks a selection of wine is “Not A Big Deal”.My wait won’t be long.Vegetarian options: Veggies are on the menu.

The shop had an extensive collection of wines, with something to suit every taste and preference. The staff were knowledgeable and helpful, providing recommendations and guiding me to the perfect bottle that suited my palate.While the wine selection was impressive, the food was equally delightful. The menu had a great selection of dishes, ranging from appetizers to entrees, all created with love. Paige in particular was a fantastic person and very knowledgeable about the wines in the shop. Nikki our server, another fantastic personality, walked us through the menu and answered every single question. She highlighted the cases that recommended and set our expectations immediately what are professional!!!!Overall, I had an excellent experience at the Wine shop in RiverGate. The food, ambience, and staff were absolutely excellent and exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great selection of wines, delicious food, and exceptional service.

Our waitress disappeared and we were then taken over by someone else only after I approached the front and asked if someone could wait on us. We were waiting forever for a drink. Then when asking for our last round we were rudely asked by the take over waitress to our friend friend who was with us “are you ok they told me I had to ask”! Ummm I’m sorry, but she had 4 glasses of wine over 4 hours but btw was not driving!!!! And that’s fine to ask for liability reasons, however it was the tone and the way she was asked that upset us!! Also, when we got home one person thought they may have left their wallet there and when someone called to ask if the restaurant had seen it , they were rude and treated her terrible on the phone!!! So all in all if you want a good meal fine, however being treated horribly is not ok !!! Especially with the pricing the way it is . Thanks , but not sure we will return. ☹️

Everyone that works here is very wine knowledgeable and very helpful if you give them some direction in terms of what you want. I always know that whatever price point I pick, if it's on their shelf, it will be the best of that category. It's also a great place to chill and have a few glasses of wine (and learn from the team about what you are drinking).

Very extensive selection of both wine and chocolate. Creative flavor combos on the chocolate, very well thought out because they really pair well with the wines. I was on vaca so I wanted something special, I got a Spanish sparkling rose and a pink champagne ganache & a black forest ganache, both went beautifully with the wine. A really special place, nice service, real attention to detail in the way the chocolates are decorated to the total atmosphere overall. I'd love to go back when I'm in town again.

A Harrison: Great shop...not so great service. We were the only people in the shop and felt unwelcome the entire time. From being reminded that they close in 2 hours (yeah... ) to taking our glasses before we finished the 100 dollars worth of wine we purchased. Whether it was intentional or not, it was certainly rude and I will not be going back.

Looking to return soon but even if not... this is a great space to enjoy wine and take a bottle to go.Side note writers... this is your zen space.

Unfortunately, the selection of solid IPA's has gradually diminished. I'm lucky to find one I like on tap or in the cooler. Instead the craft beer offered is trendy, fruity and esoteric. I wanted to communicate directly on their website but without a contact link apparently they don't value customer feedback.I will be heading to Brix and Moosehead Grill.

Goldee Payton: You really can’t beat the wine & craft beer selection at Vintner’s. They will let you try a sample of the wines on the board near the bar. Usually you seat yourself & have to go to the bar to order, but they are very knowledgeable & helpful. It is a smaller establishment & they have some tables on the patio if the weather is nice. The flatbread pizza is always good & if you like hummus, I would recommend it! We had a very large group this weekend, so there were a few little mixed up with orders but they were very kind & made it right. Great place for date night, a quick glass or friends outing!

I walked into the store and got asked can I be help, great I asked for Terrazas Malbec, which they didn't have. I was helped by a female who was nice, she told me if I need any assistance when ready she would assist. Fine no problem, I roamed through the isles looking for other wine options. I then get approached by another sales associate who asked could he help me. I ask him What Moet Hennessy (Supplier) wines did this store carry. His reply sarcastically "Moet Hennessy isn't a wine, and they have 6000 wines and smerked.." I replied I know that they are a supplier and i said I asked how many MH wines does THIS STORE carry.. I've sold their brands for 20+ years.. he than began to get frustrated because I knew what i was talking about and maybe because he judged me because I was dress in jeans, sneakers and a hoody, who knows smh.. He than began to huff and puff and told me I need to just calm down.. Now I wasn't born yesterday but.. I know for a fact that a sales associate should NEVER make a comment like "YOU should calm down" to a potential buyer... I replied with "who are you talking too.. and I'm very calm.." he then shake his head and says DO you want another associate? I said Yes of course, I'm spending my money here I just want quality service and someone who I can communicate with. I then got an associate named Juan who helped me quickly and understood salesmanship and hospitality he was very patient and helpful... I asked for a manager , Juan called manager.. I explained to manager named Alex what happened and it was totally uncalled for a disrespectful. Both Juan and Alex I spoke with for maybe 5 to 10 each and had NO issues, they were both helpful and respectfulLastly I bought about 4 case of wine, champagne and spent almost $1,000. I sure Total Wines upper management doesn't approve of their associates speaking to their customers like that. It is a bad reflection. I've been in the wine and spirit industry 20+ years in retail and distribution in sales, I definitely expected way better salesmanship.Not sure if I will buy from this store again.. but who knows Thank you again to Juan & Alex ( Manager).. (Walked over to the right aisle.)Just great service. The young lady who helped me was clear, helpful and specific. It did not seem like I was troubling her by for asking for assistance at all. And because of that, I probably bought even more than I'd planned. Oops.Amazing organized selection with prices clearly marked. Lots of wines from far away and from not too far away. A good selection of craft beers including many Charlotte breweries. They had NoDa's Hop Drop 'n Roll in stock and a number of other local beers.

andrew davis: The store is nice but the staff is strange. One woman asked if I needed help and I told her no. After that, she strangely hovered in the area while I browsed their glasses as if she I were there to steal. On our way to the front another employee eyed us down like he hand a problem with us being in the store. My wife and I also got I.D’d when trying to purchase whiskey glasses which we found to be strange request. Is it store policy to force customers to present I.D. on non-age restricted products? The cashier informed us that one must be 21 years of age or older to enter the store yet there were people in there with children. Total Wine will no longer be getting our business as we can take out business elsewhere and not be treated as shop lifters and forced to present I.D. on non-age restricted items. Based on some of the other reviews I’ve read, it seems that Total Wine has a toxic culture within its organization. I would encourage others to see what former employees had to say on Reddit regarding these very issues.
