Registration for our 2023 Space Camp June 12-16 is now open. Students will build and launch rockets, and code robots to perform missions. This program is for rising 7th to 12th grade students. Contact Mr. Kabbes at jkabbes@uncfsu.edu.
Funding for the Space Camp is provided in part by the Cumberland Community Foundation.
With ten 4K projectors on a cozy 30 foot dome, we put more pixels per square inch on our dome than any other planetarium - in the world! This means crisp, round stars and a beautiful, dark night sky. Join us for an adventure that is out of this world (and out of the galaxy).
At this time ALL of our shows are live with an astronomer. Come with questions about the Universe!
School visits to the Planetarium are available for 2022-23. Call 910-672-1SKY to schedule or contact Mr. Kabbes at jkabbes@uncfsu.edu.
In addition to our ten 4K projectors, we have a 6500 watt sound system for an amazing space experience.
Due to increased operating costs, we will need to charge a nominal fee - $5 for adults and $3 for children 2-18.
This is our second year as a NASA Community Anchor site. We are developing family programs focused on Rockets and Robots in space exploration. Check back for more information.
The Sat STEAM Team is back! Students in grades 7-12 meet Sat afternoons (every other week) from 1-3 PM in Lyons Science, room 117. Dates are the same as the public Planetarium shows.
The spring STEAM Team starts Jan 14, 2023. Our focus this spring is Ultra-Low-Powered rockets.

For students in grades 7-12 with a passion for space, the new Star Docent program (Fall 2022) will teach students astronomy, public speaking and how to run the Planetarium and Observatory. Michael Fowler: Very modern and comfortable theater. The astronomy instructor and his wife were cordial and welcoming. We enjoyed the Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon presentation.
Bobbie Staton: A Great Experience
Ashley Strom: The experience was great and the planetarium is really nice inside! But like others mentioned, parking was a nightmare only because there is no indication of where to actually park. We were able to get assistance from a security officer who was kind enough to escort us to the proper parking lot. Which is parking lot O, and it is right across from the Lyons Science Center where the planetarium is. All of which is very near the entrance Google Maps will take you to (pretty much the first building). When the center is on your left and you reach the 4-way stop in front of the railroad tracks, make a right at the stop sign and use that first parking lot on the right. Again, parking lot O. It says it is reserved, but we had no issues parking there or with towing of any sort. I hope this helps anyone else going!
Shawanda: The host was enthusiastic but it felt more like a professor teaching a college course. I attended with two 10 year olds and they could not get into it. Half of the show was slides from like a powerpoint. Very little time viewing space from the new projectors but the visuals we did see were amazing. They definitely have some kinks to work out to keep viewers interested. In my opinion the show would be better if it was scripted and audio-narrated, but that's just my opinion.
J. Mama: Fayetteville State University's Planetarium has just re-opened after remodeling. It is fresh, clean, and absolutely gorgeous. The Planetarium has the highest resolution currently of any planetarium (in the world) due to the number of 4K projectors in its 30 foot dome.Brought my kids, we had a great time- the pics are from the actual presentation. Amazing to see the universe in multiple dimensions.It is open to the public! Check Fayetteville State's website for tickets and scheduling.
Cameron Johnson: This is a beautiful science building. I've been here a few times throughout the years and I would say in order to watch a demonstration be sure to know the schedule and be on time. Besides that the facility is very clean and well put together. It's a must do if you are at Fayetteville State University.
Legocoach Frantz: Had a great time. Very interesting talk. The projector could use an update, but a great way to spend an evening.
Alina McCray: Thank you for such a great experience for my 2 year old grandson! He thoroughly enjoyed the playroom and the lunar demonstration! The staff was very knowledgeable and professional! Once again Thank You and hope to see you next time!!!
Keshav Tandon: Fayetteville State University is beautiful college right beside downtown and it would be better if it had more students and more education for military and non military people
Tamar Abraham: Nice grounds~ We drove over 500 miles to be a bit closer to the center of the August '17 Solar Eclipse. The school and adjoining Planetarium staff were pleasant and helpful.
