As custodians and managers of large numbers of public records, we are proud to provide answers to any questions you may have regarding our office. The Register of Deeds office exists primarily to enable the owner of an interest in property to give public notice of that ownership. Our Land Records date back to 1754, which was the official beginning of Cumberland County.
We also house many other public records, such as notary oaths, births, deaths and marriage licenses. We are pleased to record military discharges (DD214’s) free of charge to our retired military. Effective August 1, 2020 limited search of only the vitals index will be available for births, deaths and marriages. The General Statutes of North Carolina govern the Register of Deeds. We are responsible for the maintenance, integrity and safekeeping of all public records for which we are legally entrusted. Our office is committed to proper enforcement of these laws as we strive to provide the highest level of customer service.

Nicole Fitzpatrick: The staff was friendly and it only took a few minutes to get the documents I needed.
Nastradamus 215: There is no reason the certificate section should be so rude. I filled out a birth certificate online for the website for the county, I gave the employee the confirmation number to the employee and was told it was canceled but took my money.
Jordan Gill: I had to wait 5 months to get finger printed for my C&C. That being said, once I showed up, process was quick, staff were friendly and helpful, and the whole thing was painless. Just wish there was a faster turnaround.

Ella: I’m writing this review to give a special shout-out to Ms. Regina Frazier. When I had a question about marriage licenses, she promptly emailed me back and also left a phone number to call in case I had any questions. When I called, she not only answered my questions but gave very helpful advice about making an appointment about marriage certificates. She’s great and deserves a raise!
ANGELA Griffo: I tried for months to get my birth certificate from vital statistics it cost me over 100$ dollars and several months they were horrible. Finally, I went to register of deeds, they had my birth certificate in the mail the same day. Great customer service, less expensive and I could order online , no need for snail mail and money orders. Thank You register of deeds.
Monica Primus: I do a lot of genealogical research and it is quite helpful to be able to view the index books and then find the certificates I'm looking for online within their office.
A s: Nice enough people, but unhelpful when events impacting hours (i.e. the hurricane) aren't disseminated to the city in a better way than a piece of paper taped on the door.) Also, not helpful when doors to the courthouse are locked prior to the release time. Why say you're closing early at 1200 when you're actually closing prior to the time? I called 4 times as I was heading down there to let them know I was on my way. I got there with 1-2 mins to spare but doors were locked. I was trying... Frustrating they couldn't see that and help. One improve is that they should get better with technology and take credit cards over the phone. Seems like something that could easily be implemented.

audrey Coppins: I went to the Spring Lake precinct office to early VOTE BUT THEIR WAS something happening it appeared it was a question about my ballot from me . There was a clerk that asked the assisted served her bring a SENIOR BALLOT! Preceded to provided a different ballot.Ask why was I given a different Ballot This happen on October 16, about 6:30 PM. I contact the board of Elections several times on the following day. That evening I contacted Board was told he would visit Spring Lake Precinct I didn’t receive a call back! I am concerned about my VOTE COUNTING FOR 2020!

Eddie Vids: spoke with shannon cole at bd of elections she was not aware illegal purging of voters names from the rolls is a FEDERAL OFFENSE...punishable by prison time...the federal court in winston salam seeing this case today knows it....and they also know the nation i and world is watching...I give this place no stars....I had to give 1 star in order to post this ! I am appalled by racists tactics in 2016 and will not be quiet about it...nor will millions of other sensible like minded folks in the U S
James Coghill: Voters should not have to instruct or correct the poll workers on how to enter the correct voting precinct, three times in a row. Are the workers truly that poorly trained or is this just another case of election fraud? So what happens when a poll worker enters the wrong precinct code, do the votes still count? How many other voters were likely affected if not as civic-minded as myself or not paying close attention? Please train the workers better. We deserve fair and honest elections. Who can we contact if the Board of Elections is not even able to give us a fair and accurate voting process?
