Our mission is to cultivate the field of modern dance in North Carolina, and have spent the past 30 years nurturing a vibrant, engaged, and inclusive community of artists, audiences, and students by providing opportunities for training, performance, collaboration, and employment.

Our 501(c)3 non-profit organization encompasses the NC Dance Festival, a statewide tour of NC choreography; The School, our community dance studio in the Cultural Center; our Outreach Programming, providing free and low-cost classes and performances in community settings; and The Van Dyke Dance Group, which performs and manages the repertoire of Dance Project founder, Jan Van Dyke (1941-2015).

Youth registration for summer opens 3/2/23 (camps are already open for registration). Adults drop in any time to current semester classes for ages 13+ and 18+.

Summer scholarship applications open March 10. Scholarships are available for youth and adult classes, camps, and intensives!

As a dancer, dance educator, and parent of dancers, I whole-heartedly support the vision, mission, and philosophies of Dance Project. Between the community outreach, the high quality education, and the continued public exposure that shows Dance Project's steadfast commitment to the art form, this organization is doing amazing things for so many members of our community.

My experience with dancing has been freedom to have movement that is not judged; it’s creative; if we can’t do it, we do what we can; and it’s being given a little break from having Parkinson’s... This has been a delightful experience in movement.

I became a supporter of Dance Project after seeing some of their performance work, and then talking with Anne and Lauren and falling in love with their vision and goals. The diversity both in terms of dance style and the staff itself speaks to the way they bring the art and expression to life.
