Methodist Home for Children Transitional living: what do users think?
Jasmine W: The business does not represent what they aim out to be and for them to be "faith-based," they shut down any positivity (spiritually) and encouragement to the youth to bring faith into the institution. They do not live up to what they want people to believe and do not really have the faith based image they claim to show. the only time God is involved or faith is involved is when money is being donated. Please reconsider donating to another organization

Methodist Home For Children - (aka MHC Family): what do users think?
Katherine Hutchens: In over 30 years, I have never worked with an organization with so much integrity and commitment to excellence! The leadership is inspiring and dedicated to the children, youth, and families we serve. Ongoing professional development and encouraging/supporting best practices are just a few of the ways MHC invests in its employees and achieves its mission.
Polly Willis: I am blessed to work at MHC for 21 years. Having worked in nonprofits my entire career, I have truly seen transformation in our kids and families lives! Each kid I meet has a story, not always an easy life. Our staff are amazing, caring, loving people and are very talented to help move our kids to a better place. We invest in our people. There are opportunities for professional development and skill building. The best part of MHC is the culture and the people. Because we are faith based we tend to have staff who are committed to building a better life for kids who don’t have a good family life. We focus on our values of honesty, compassion, empowerment, responsibility and respect! It is a family focused agency and I am blessed and proud to be a part of MHC.
Tonia Rogers: I am currently an Operations Manager at the Insight Crisis and Assessment center located in Granville County, I have been with the agency for 4 years. I love working with the youth and the staff. This is such a rewarding career and I totally feel supported by my co-workers, managers and the leadership team! If you are looking for a rewarding career and a chance to change the lives of youth, give our agency a chance!
Zoe Kiser: Many people I know have had terrible experiences working there. Low pay. Unsafe working conditions, leaving young female employees to handle groups of older teen boys alone multiple times. Conditions for the kids weren’t great either, very disappointing since this line of work is essential!
Krystal Locklear: Do not recommend working for. Everything seems go good, until you get injured or sick, then they fire you. They want you to go againest doctors orders. They lose paperwork H.R. and the home. Then blame you for not turning it in. I have my proof. You pay in for short-term and long-term disability benefits and you can't even use them.
Anthony Downey: I had the privilege of working here for 3 months now. I was promoted to supervisor within my first month. I really love working here. I feel like this is a great career choice to grow as a professional and to become an overall better person. I love the extra support and training that we have to keep us sharp, and learning new skills. I would definitely recommend this Job/Career to anyone looking to kickstart their professional career!
Antjuan Harrison: Prior to being employed with MHFC I worked alongside of them for almost 10yrs. The entire MHFC family fromFoster care, adoption, to the group homes take great pride in helping the youth they serve. I’m very happy to be apart of this team and would recommend family’s that need some assisted with their teens, children, and/or themselves to look into MHFC
Alex Pritchard: Enjoyed my time interning at the Raleigh Headquarters. The staff is supportive and create an enjoyable work environment. You can tell that everyone loves their jobs. They were also flexible about my schedule, which was greatly appreciated. Definitely would recommend it for college students looking for an internship.
Emma S: Would not recommend working for this company, especially as an assessment counselor or a teacher. Very low pay & poor leadership. Lack of communication was huge.
Julius Price: Shauna P is amazing!
Kirt Gonzales: The building is very easy to access and it was very clean. The staff there is very polite abd friendly.
Melissa Finley: There are foster parents out there they're trying to get licensed and this company moves so slowly. They don't give enough information in their first information meeting. They dragged their heels while meanwhile group homes are piling up with children. They're just trying to fill a quota while sitting back and collecting their salaries.
ß Love: Thank you for all the years you’ve cared for us!(great place to work too!)
William Mitchell: Nice and clean, great location
Kim Hale: Wonderful place. They do great work. Friendly people
Lindsay Brown: An amazing place with amazing opportunities
Crystal Rhynes: Fantastic folks

Wildflower Cottage for Children: what do users think?
Elizabeth Baltaro: Has been absolutely wonderful for my three children! My youngest is about to age out of daycare at Wildflower, and after over 6 years— this daycare has become part of our hearts. We are grateful and will sincerely miss the people/ community and hope to find a way to stay involved in the future. We love the inclusion of so much nature, imaginative play and family inclusion.
Brittany Craig: Glad to share my wholehearted recommendation of Wildflower Cottage! We have two kids with very different personalities and interests attending in the preschool and "middler" classrooms and both are absolutely thriving. We love how the teachers truly meet our kids where they are at, encourage their eclectic interests, foster socio-emotional development, and help them develop their self-help skills. The new building and outdoor spaces are so dreamy and thoughtfully designed- a magical place for young children to spend their days.
Lauren Tsai: Last year, with much trepidation, we moved our 3.5 yr old daughter from a different daycare to Wildflower. It was the best decision we could have made and have since entered our 1 yr old son. Krissy is a diligent and caring leader who doesn't miss a beat. The teachers are so incredibly warm and truly care about each child's individual needs. And while the new home and grounds are stunning, the true magic and joy of Wildflower are the staff. Our children are flourishing at Wildflower and we couldn't be more grateful.
Julia Brasileiro: We are so thankful for Wildflower Cottage! We switched to Wildflower from a more traditional childcare center when our son turned three and it was the best decision we've made! He's been thriving there for the last year and a half. He has grown so much in his social skills, confidence, emotional regulation, problem solving ability and made some wonderful friends. I love how much time the kids spend outdoors in nature playing and learning. The teachers are fabulous, it's so comforting to know that he is surrounded by loving adults who know and care for him as a unique being. He loves going each day and if I arrive "too early" to pick him up he will frequently tell me to come later the next day because he's still having fun. It feels like we joined a special community of teachers, parents, and kiddos, rather than it being a place to just send our kiddo off to childcare.
James Kane: We love Wildflower Cottage for Children! Our daughter joined Wildflower from a more traditional daycare and has really thrived in the open, imaginative, and natural environment. Her social and emotional development has noticeably improved - she loves her teachers and friends too! We just transitioned our younger child into the toddler class and he's very happy as well. The new building and outdoor spaces are so thoughtfully designed. Definitely check it out!
Tim Scales: Wildflower recently moved into a new permanent home in a beautiful converted house with thoughtful design and large outdoor playspaces. My son adores his teachers — they are thoughtful, dedicated, and caring stewards of his class.
Amanda Friedline Weber: Our child is in her 2nd year and she/we love it at Wildflower. When we pick her up, she often doesn’t want to leave! The intentionality of the teachers paired with play-based/nature school environment is exactly what we were looking for. Their ability to weave play with learning is amazing. We also love that there is weekly mindfulness practice, group time, and music opportunities. Our daughter’s emotional intelligence, language, and creativity have flourished since starting at Wildflower. We are jealous of our daughter when we receive updates giving us a glimpse into her day: we wish we were there! Krissy’s leadership, especially throughout the pandemic and omicron surges, has been remarkable and steady. We can’t wait for our 2nd child to attend.
Chris Butts: We feel so grateful that our daughter goes to Wildflower Cottage for Children. When we switched from a more traditional daycare to Wildflower, we noticed such a difference in her on week one -- she came home each day excited to tell us about her adventures, and it was so clear that she was forming meaningful relationships with her teachers right away. She has been a part of both the Toddler and Middler classes, and every single teacher has been amazing (and there is pretty much zero turnover, which is a rarity in this field). Our daughter is thriving, with such a strong sense of independence, and that's due in large part to Wildflower.
Radhika Deshmukh-McDiarmid: We love Wildflower! Our son has spent two happy years there and is enjoying his third, and our daughter can't wait to join him! We can tell the teachers care about our family and the amount our son has learned and grown since attending is incredible.
Felipe Witchger: My son thrived for 3 years at Wildflower. The freedom to explore, take risks, build confidence, and learn to lead his peers were among the many gifts we received. The delight with slip-n-slide, water play, mud, zipline, trike path... so many treasured memories. It wasn't drop-off, but rather pick-up that was hard many days: "Can I stay a little longer, daddy?" I will never forget the gift Krissy and Jordan gave to my son who spent 3 years at Wildflower. Krissy brings extra-ordinary gifts as an administrator. I recommend Wildflower to any young family I meet. Perhaps the biggest gift I received every few months was what Jordan and other teachers noticed about my son -- they saw him -- and their coming to know him, and their sharing of that, helped me grow as a parent.
Lindsay Neese: Both of my sons attended Wildflower Cottage, one for three years and the other for two, until we moved out of the area. I can not say enough about what a great program this was for our kids. They loved being outdoors, exploring and learning in nature. The indoor and outdoor spaces are accommodating and cozy. The teachers are absolutely incredible at guiding and supporting the children to grow and learn. We had both kids there during COVID and I can’t tell you how happy I was with the policies put in place and how agile the leaders and teaching team were during this incredibly challenging time. It’s a small feel community that is truly one of a kind.
Amber S.: We couldn’t ask for a better school for our 3 year old. Her teachers are so patient and nurturing and FUN! Lots of open, easy communication between staff and parents. She gets tons of exercise and has lots of opportunity to play in nature and get really dirty (a good thing in my book). It’s the perfect blend of having a very safe, secure facility but with the nature based play all kids love. ❤️
Amanda Newman: My son went to his last year of preschool at wildflower cottage and is now there at summer camp. Halfway through the last year the pandemic hit. Wildflower opened and handled things so professionally and with compassion for the kids. My son was still able to have a great, distanced experience. The administration and teachers are all kind and caring. It shows by all they do for the kids. My son was excited to go each day and loved his teachers and classmates. They make the experience magical and fun for kids. I can’t recommend this place enough!
Jordan Glassman: More than daycare. We call Wildflower school for our 2-year old, and mean it, in the best possible way. The wonderful, thoughtful, caring staff--friends--make every day fun, enriching, natural, social, and memorable. Wildflower is embedded in the community and strives to develop the community in and around the school. Highest recommendation.
Kendra Madding Lampron: Wildflower cottage is a beautiful community and wonderful place for my daughter to learn and grow. We love her teachers and the experiences she has there. She loves spending so much time outside and all of the fun activities that the staff plans for her classroom. A loving and kind community for kids and families!
Johanna Jennings: We have been so grateful to have all three of our children attend Wildflower Cottage. It truly is the most wonderful school. I can think of so many positives and literally no negatives. I'll list a few of the things I love:* the classroom environment -- The physical space is so calm, peaceful, and pleasant, and that definitely translates into the vibe of the classes.* the teachers and staff -- The staff, in addition to being experts in early childhood education, are so incredibly dedicated to the school. They are compassionate, thoughtful, and truly interested in learning about who each child is and how they can support the child's development. They are key to fostering that sense of calm and comfort that Wildflower Cottage has.* the outdoor experience -- Consistent with their evidence-based learning environment, they get the kids outside a ton. This has been so key for my active kids. My middle child's favorite part of his day is going to the forest with his class.* the play-based learning -- Consistent with their evidence-based philosophies, they embrace the notion that small children learn through play and not through desk work. It's so refreshing.* the food -- They provide healthy food including a hot lunch. Not having to pack lunches and snacks has been a huge relief, allowing us to spend more time with the kids in the morning and less time packing less-than-ideal lunches.
Zing Jao: My daughter started at Wildflower when she turned three, and she's been loving it! The kids spend a lot of time outside everyday, not just at the playground but also in the woods, at the mud pit and bike path. She has so much fun, coming home tired and content. The teachers are nurturing, loving and attentive. I especially appreciate how they educate kids to be wholesome human beings, care for each other and solve conflicts amongst themselves.
Sally Scruggs: We were initially attracted to Wildflower for natural outdoor play, great location and commitment to child-driven learning. Our expectations have been exceeded! Our daughter has grown in so many ways since she began the program and she is always excited to go to school. I can't image a better program for young children.
katherine goldstein: This is a wonderful school and we feel so lucky we've found it. One of our favorite things about it is that they do so much not just outside but in the woods in nature. I think this is a rare and special thing in a preschool. The staff is communicative, thoughtful and loving. They really encourage creativity and developing good social skills. An added bonus: we've had a bunch of bad weather this year with hurricanes and snowstorms, and the director really is very considerate of working parents and doesn't close unless it's truly necessary, even when Durham public schools are closed. We really appreciate that! I have recommended wildflower to many friends.
Benjamin White: We've had our twin boys at wildflower for almost 2 years, and we're glad we got them in. We've been impressed by the calm atmosphere, warm communicative staff, and positive learning environment. We feel confident upon dropping them off that they'll have fun, learn, play outside, and come home happy.
Ashley Cashwell: Our family had the BEST experience at Wildflower and can't wait to enroll our son there when he is old enough. The teachers and administration are truly the best in Durham/CH (we have been at multiple places for both kids over the years). They love and care for the children and treat everyone with kindness and respect. My daughter had a smooth transition to kindergarten, which I thank Wildflower for giving her the skills above and beyond what she needed to do so.
