Matt Swanson: Great history for all ages!
Bryan Gibbons: Fantastic museum experience. Free entry can't be beat, such a good value we even left a contribution to the museum at the door and paid to watch the 3D Oceans film. The whale skeletons and underwater tunnel walks were highlights of our trip through. We rode nearby Scooters to make traveling around the city easier.Visited on Weekend Wait time No wait Reservation recommended No Price for adult entry Free …More

MJ Worldwide: Outstanding museum that continues to thrive and innovate. Currently under construction which is a testament to their constant growth. Big dinosaur stuff on the way! So informative and interactive. The exhibits truly come to life. The museum is free however certain exhibits are ticketed. Membership is less than $100 for families! You can’t beat that. A beautiful place to learn and grow. I highly recommend and look forward to coming back, I’ve been visiting this museum since I was a kid! I admire the progress and look forward to more knowledge and creativity. Stop by when you can!

Bklyn Gal: Great place to go if your looking for a bit of history on North Carolina. You definitely can’t do it all in one day. There were a lot of other museums within walking distance.
E Y: I highly recommend this science museum. Admission is complimentary, with the exception of special exhibits. The museum boasts a vast array of exhibits that are both educational and engaging. I suggest checking their online calendar for special events and exhibits. Parking is readily available on the side of the road during weekends, unless there is a special event such as BugFest. However, the café could benefit from some enhancements.
Patrick Hiltz: This place is really cool. Lots of dinosaur fossils, minerals/rocks/precious stones, and even a butterfly room with live butterflies and a 2 toed sloth. Very cool.
Jieming Wu: 很好,值得你过来一趟。两个博物馆很近。可以安排几个小时一起逛。good
michael newman: Little disappointed that alot of the interactive labs and displays weren't working on the nature side. We originally went here 5 years ago and now again in 2023. As an adult nothing has changed much. Kids enjoyed it as they were to young to remember our first visit. If you do want to do labs do them first as they close at 3.
Ian Knights: We arrived here mid afternoon and walked straight in. It was a Tuesday in May and pretty quiet. We went straight to the Information Desk to ask what they would recommend seeing. They helpfully suggested going straight up to the 4th floor where the "Living Conservatory" area would be closing shortly and then slowly make our way back down to the ground floor. We took this advice and just managed to be one of the last visitors allowed to walk through the small but interesting Living Conservatory. This is based on a Central American tropical dry forest filled with living plants and animals. The best bits here were all the live, exotic butterflies that were quite happy to catch a lift on the visitors, in the vain attempt to escape here. In fact before leaving this area you walked through two sets of doors with mirrors to ensure against escapees. Apparently there are also turtles, tarantulas, snakes and even a two-toed sloth here. We saw the latter but he/she was fast asleep high up in the branches.Having left this are we proceeded to make our slow way down. Indeed there are 4 floors packed with information about all the flora and fauna to be found in the North Carolina – land (above and below) and sea. This included informative areas on minerals and rocks, notably emeralds and an intriguing dinosaur area with the main highlight being the huge fossil skeleton of the Acrocanthosaurus – high spined lizard!I liked the section which showed the workshop of Herbert Hutchinson Brimley, the British born director under whose stewardship over 60 years, the museum had flourished. The whole, museum was incredibly well done. Throughout, thought had also been given to children focused exhibits with interesting interactive Q & A displays to help bring everything to life more.We could have spent longer here and there was certainly far too much on display to take all in in one afternoon visit. And all the main parts of this museum are free to enter. Excellent.

Rebekah Reed: I was here with a group of kids. The museum highlights the history of the founding of Raleigh through now. It has a lot of memorabilia from old stores from the early twentieth century. Although they had numbered descriptions of many of the items they didn't have numbers next to the items described, so it was kind of hard to know what was what. I wouldn't plan on spending a lot of time there with smaller kids as it's an informative rather than interactive museum. The kids did a city planning program, which was fun, but it seemed like there could have been more instruction to help them connect the building with blocks they did with how city planning is actually thought through.
Luisa Medina: It’s a cute tiny museum that’s free to the public. It talks about the history of Raleigh, but I just wish it was bigger than just one floor.Visited on Weekend Wait time No wait Reservation recommended No Price for adult entry Free …More
T. Shaffner: This museum was sort of bizarre. The exhibits it has are decent, but would make you think the entire history of the city was the fight for equity/rights. If you want some of that history you can get an overview here (though I wished this went deeper too), but that's almost it (apart from a maps section). Any Raleigh history on other topics is elsewhere. In the "City of Raleigh" museum, that seemed really....weird.If you want to actually learn and explore history, I'd suggest the history museum on the other side of the Capitol. I went there next and, while it wasn't focused on Raleigh, it also wasn't like a version of history with anything inconvenient ripped out.
Curt V: Normally, I love museums. This one I was not enamored with. I waffled between a 3 or 4 star rating. The museum is located in a historic down town Raleigh building. It's free as are most museums in Raleigh which is fantastic. The museum had an exhibit on Jewish residents of the city, women's suffrage, the Civil rights movement and cartography. There are also static exhibits of local history. The exhibits are nicely done.. My big issue with the museum is that it's small, therefore the exhibits are small. There's so much history here in Raleigh so to me, the museum falls short. If you have a couple of hours to spend, this is a good place to do it.
Bria James-Hall (iamBriaJames): Great space to have a party! Staff was very nice & professional! Definitely will be back again!!Visited on Weekend Wait time 1 hr+ Reservation recommended Yes …More
Colvin Will Do It: Awesome place!
Sylvia Massuda: There wasn't much to the museum. Interesting but very small for a museum

Arvian “Sparkles” Duval: My children took me to this art museum as part of my Mother’s Day celebration yesterday. It is free admission and they accept donations. It is a walk-in, no reservations required. There are two levels to this museum. The artwork in there is deep and thought-provoking. I believe they rotate different artists at different times. There are a few areas where you can sit if needed. What I enjoyed about this art museum besides, the art of course, is that they give not only biographical information about each artist, but they also provide an overview of that artist’s style and a summary of the collection of art that is being presented for that artist. The atmosphere is serene and conducive for an art museum. Everything is spaced out nicely to give room to multiple people viewing at the same time. The building is also maintained at a good temperature.

Amanda Citron Holder: Small museum open the 2nd Saturday of Every month. We had a great time, fire people were out helping kids work a fire hose, answering questions about the two fire trucks we could play in and a small museum with lots of artifacts, pictures and history of the Raleigh fire department. The inside museum is no touch so just make sure your toddler+ age children can enjoy without wanting to touch everything!
Yeni Szotkovsky: In the museum there is a beautiful bell, and many historical objects that show us how the fire fighting evolved. Very didactic for children to visit.
Anthony Cassone: Great place to see the history of the Raleigh Fire Department
Aleksei Vladimirskii: A fantastic small fire station currently used as a training ground. Every second Saturday of the month admission is free. A guaranteed 30 min fun for you and your kids. Parking is provided on the ground for free.

Prairie Ridge Ecostation: what do users think?
Serena Buckner: Playground: This is a wonderful, shady playground where kids can play in natural setting. Bring a change of clothes and a towel. This play area is so much fun!
Turner-Marie Johnson: This was my first time here. I brought my 4 year old son. He absolutely loved being able to just play in nature, get messy, find worms, dig, and do all the things curious kids should do. They have trails we didn’t have time to go down, but they looked fun to explore. We were also lucky enough to come on a storytime day. It was exceptional. They had an activity after the book to engage the children in nature. And the best part is - it's free!
Cole Owen: Little slice of nature to enjoy with the kids. Has an amazing playground and botanical trails. Excellent little spot for some adventure. Worth spending an evening with a picnic in the trees. You can hear the highway from the park so let's not say it's "peaceful" but a nice change from the city surrounding it.

Jessamyn Farrell: What a hidden gem. I’ve known about it for years but didn’t get to go until today and it far exceeded my expectations. Its like going to the Museum of Life and Sciences for kids except it’s free. It feels like one giant Tinkergarten. I just wish it was open on the weekends.
Thomas Smith: A nice easy trail with plenty of places to wander too. There is also an outdoor playground for kids as well.
Kerstin N.: Definitely the best outdoor/nature-based play area I’ve seen in the triangle! Bathrooms available as well.
Mark Myers: Didn't even explore the whole thing, got stuck in the great (and shaded) kids play area with all kinds of options and we'll need to go back!
Janelle Stephenson: Fun, adventurous and educational
Matthew Graham: Awesome easy hike/walk. Kid friendly and very Education-centric. Bring sun protection for the prairie portion. #optoutside.
Jane G: Great place to roam & sit by the pond. Restrooms are available. Kids natural play space looks like great fun.
Scott Bower: “There's nothing wrong with having a tree as a friend.” - Bob Ross
Scott Reston: Nice little oasis of nature
Austin Cross: Great site for all ages, especially kids who are in need of a some NC environmental learning sessions. I hope to bring my son next time and in the spring when all the flowers and such are in full bloom
Jeremy Wrenn: I visited during the COVID-19 pandemic, so some things are closed. There are a couple nice walking trails, beside the creek, through a field, and beside a couple ponds. Good for birdwatching and enjoying the outdoors right in Raleigh! Also connects to a Greenway trail in the park.I especially enjoyed the bird feeders and the screened-in building that overlooks the feeders.I would assume once they are back to full operation it would probably be a 5 star place.
David Kurisu: A great place to bring the family regardless of age. The nature playspace is perfect for little ones to run around and play. From the sandbox to the camping area to the stage and all things in-between, there is plenty to keep the kids entertained. Plus the hiking trail is just long enough to stretch your legs and enjoy the outdoors.
Tania Prezas: Wonderful place, always plenty of interesting activities for all ages and knowledgeable educators
Eric Garcia: Awesome place for the kids to play and learn about natural. Great for helping to cultivate a love for the outdoors in a controlled environment

The museum started out in 1979 as a bunch of fabrics and fancy stuff, but it has grown to include all kinds of artworks from different times and places. The museum is spread out in several buildings, some of which are old and some of which are new. The difference between the buildings shows the variety of the museum's collections. But the museum doesn't have much room and can only show a small part of its stuff at once. The Gregg Museum of Art & Design is a jumble of past and present that lets you see how people like to make things look nice.

AJ Fathi: The museum was decent and is worth visiting once. It also has a nice garden and a nice exterior since it used to be the Chancellor's mansion. Some of the items are interesting although the collection is small. It is for sure not the Louvre. I have seen better around America.

Terrance Hoey: Great little Museum, till the end of the year they have photos of the South series, a science of genetics gallery, and a whimsical animal gallery. The cost is free they ask for a donation. Not to be missed.
Tiffany Andrews: The main exhibits now are by Christina Weisner. One focuses on the Ries Meteorite Impact Crater in Germany, 15 miles across and containing the entire city of Nordlingen, built before anyone understood that the great depression or bowl that nestles the city is actually a 14-million-year-old impact crater. Weisner also has an imaginative assembly of glass spheres, originally used to house underwater seismometers. These are connected to the United States Geologic Service's earthquake reporting website so that the spheres ring each time there is an earthquake anywhere on planet earth! Very interesting.
Tom Levitan: My first visit. Small museum but interesting visiting exhibitions.Currently a collection of contemporary southern photography. But for me, the collection of imaginary fauna from the Hokes Archives by Beauvais Lyons is wonderful.Free parking.
Zane Hepburn: A great little museum with a constantly changing collection. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area. The free admission certainly sweetens the pot.
Tess Co: Intimate
JHers77: Small but good. Some neat exhibits. Front desk staff was lacking personality.
