4worldlovers: For twenty years, we have lived and traveled the world. We are often surprised and inspired by the food we have eaten along the way. From the first apple tarts in France, the Pecorino cheese in Tuscany, Weiss Wurst in Germany, Espada (scabbard fish) on the island of Madeira, to Hong Kong, Thailand and China, we have learned new flavors and techniques to add to the outstanding food of the American South. — At Plates, we hope that you will enjoy some of our favorite international dishes combined with our regional southern flavors. Join us on a new culinary journey that is globally inspired and locally produced.
A graduate of Johnson & Wales’ Culinary Studies program in Charleston, SC, Chef David Mitchell has made his mark in restaurants across the Southeast for two decades. Named to his first Head Chef position at age 23, David has since helmed the kitchen at such Triangle institutions as Porter’s City Tavern and Nofo.
In 2011 David took the lead at Busy Bee Café and helped to transform it into a well-known place for craft beer and fun, exciting Southern food. His creativity was showcased at their regular beer pairing dinners and a continuously changing seasonal pub menu. In addition, David was the lead Chef of the team that created the menus at Trophy Pizza on Morgan Street and State of Beer, and most recently was Executive Chef of Mama Crow’s in the newly-formed Transfer Co. Food Hall.
Chef David is also an accomplished entrepreneur, having opened his own gourmet pasta company (Pan De Mi Pasta in Atlanta), as well as being active in catering and personal chef projects in the Raleigh area. David comes to our team at Plates with an incredible excitement to showcase the flavorful, well-traveled Southern cuisine our neighbors have come to know and love.

This will be a fun five Course “Beer vs Wine” dinner, each course paired with one beer and one wine. The theme this time around will be North Carolina Libations. Pairings will be revealed on the night of the event.

Jaja Turner: I realized after arriving at this location that there are two Lee's Kitchen a few miles apart from one another, and I went to the one by FoodLion for the first time. The food was delicious, but they don't give you as many oxtails as the other location. $18 for about 4 oxtails, rice & peas, cabbage and 2 plantains. The other Lee's Kitchen charges $20 for a really nice portion of the same thing. Although pricey the food is delicious!

Deanna: We brought our family and spent approximately $240 for our dinner. We needed 15 seats near each other. There was one table that had a couple of dirty plates on it, but the table was clean, so my daughter moved them to the next table to seat our children and was then going to hand them to the waitress. The waitress asked if there was a tip beside the plates and my daughter told her no. The waitress then had the nerve to say under her breath, "There better not have been". She assumed wrongly that she could not be heard and insinuated my daughter stole her tip. So instead of apologizing, she apparently thought it was a better idea to argue with my daughter about it. Needless to say, it upset my daughter even further. We are not the type of people to automatically scream RACISM, but truly, we feel like this was the case as the young lady was being discriminatory against us. She then took it upon herself to go to each employee she could find to plead her case and she did it in front of other patrons, seemingly trying her best to embarrass our family. The manager did not appear to have reprimanded her and we had to demand a different waitress, who might I add, did receive a hefty tip when we were finished dining. When we were leaving, my daughter asked the manager for the district managers phone number. She tried her best not to give it to us, as she felt she had handled our problem well, which she did not. Needless to say, that's the last time we will ever go back.

The restaurant claims to have a gluten free frier in order to provide safe options for celiac, however the day we went they said they did not have a dedicated frier (nor did they have time to clean one for us). In addition, we got a game towards the end of the night and they came and took the game away from us because they said it was "too close to closing". I fully understand not allowing customers to finish a game if the restaurant has closed as I have worked in this industry. But considering we paid to use the games, it is annoying to be told you can't have free range of games until closing. KC: This is a solid four star restaurant. The food and drinks were delicious and the atmosphere was very cool. It was nice inside and very clean. I am deducting a star because the service was only so/so; the waitstaff seemed more interested in each other than with their guests, but the food arrived quickly and without issues. The other reason for the deduction is due to the fact that you have to pay extra for any sides and $4 for fries is a lot when you’re paying for a $15 sandwich, which, while good, would not have been worth the $15 if served alone. All in all a solid experience, I just wish they would tweak these couple of things if I were to go back.

Only removed a star bc I thought it was a bit over-priced. With our 20% tip, our bill was $68. caniac369: The only thing we had good was the sweet tea. The service was adequate. The food was disappointing and overpriced. My grilled cheese had filling on maybe 2/3 of the sandwich. The sweet potato fries were overcooked and covered in sugar. The menu did not indicate they were sweetened and they did not pair well with a savory item like grilled cheese. Overall it was a huge let down, especially since I'd heard so many great things about Relish so I assumed this adjacent location would be up to the same standards.I would have said something to the waitstaff except we were at lunch with a large group of friends and I didn't want to make a scene. I learned the menu at The Kitchen not close to being the as the same the main Relish location next door. Next time I'm in town I might try Relish but I won't waste my money here again.

MR GHQRT: I had just ate here and this is the best Chinese food I had by far. This restaurant actually knows how to make fried rice no matter if it’s shrimp or pork. There spare ribs are up there with New York Chinese food. Can’t wait to try more food from them

dovedarby: Had a pleasant experience at Wang’s Kitchen in Southgate Plaza. First time ordering so I went with previous reviews and ordered the Boneless Ribs with Pork Fried Rice. Service was good and food was ready within 10-15 minutes. The food itself was hot and delicious! It even tasted good the next day as leftovers. The serving container was sturdy and reusable/reheatable. Overall great experience and I would recommend.

Angel Emmanuel Millan (Zacharia Millan-Lara): There is only one person that works there that can get my order right but the food is always good and fast they deserve five stars for the food but one time I called in an order and it was rejected the lady literally said call back tomorrow when the person that knows how to do your order does it because I don’t wanna do it OK thank you bye and hung up and that really upset me because I really enjoyed Wangs kitchen but that experience impacted me a lot.

Kristin Nagy: I ate Carroll's Kitchen and took it out during my lunch break. It was SO GOOD that I had to go back for my lunch break the next day. I got the broccoli cheddar soup (special item) and it was so warm, delicious, creamy, and homey. I also got a turkey brie sandwich to go with it which was perfectly made with delicious flavors. The take out is timely and they wrap it up with napkins and utensils so you can take it with you. Only con is it's a bit on the pricey side but considering the amazing mission and how good the food is, I have no problem splurging every once in a while on Carroll's Kitchen.

There were great choices for our vegetarian staff and they included small name plates to show dietary info. for each dish. Many staff members complemented the food and appreciated that we are supporting such a great cause! We will definitely order from them again.

Order was ready to pick up well within promised timeframe and staff authentically nice. Reserved curbside parking space so even during downtown lunch rush a breeze to pick up.

Marylou Eccles: Been looking for a place that sells quiche and today I finally found it!!! Ordered 2 pieces and the bacon was much better seasoned and tastier than the Greek but I really enjoyed them both. Now I ordered delivery and it was out of my normal delivery zone so I paid $2.50 extra and each 1/4 slice is $7.50 so it is costly but I worth it to me! Hot as hell outside and this really hit the spot! Wish they had some fruit as a nice refreshing side.....UPDATE 7/28/22Back again today and ordered my delicious quiches and also tried the kolaches. They were larger than expected and had an awesome sweet and savory taste. The part that made my day was that they were out of one of the flavors I ordered so they let me try 2 different flavors. I just love when owners and their staff go above and beyond to ensure guest satisfaction. This has just become my new all time favorite spot to eat!!!!

Chet Massey: #1 no food quality !! We went for the breakfast buffet today and the quality of the meat and lack of choices is pathetic. Two pans of burnt bacon pieces sat on the buffet the whole time we were there !! How about just better quality and less quantity !!#2 We had to actually go get a server and beg for water. I think we're finally back to full swing, though of course after Covid, it's hard to look at all you can eat the same way.
