Krav Maga Raleigh: what do users think?
Blake Jones: This is the best MMA studio out there! They have incredible coaches that not only care about your performance, but also your safety. Mason, Cassie, and Lenora are incredible to work with, and Renee will always be there to put a smile on your face. Give it a try, you’ll love it (and feel safer too)
Ryhstin - (Ryhstin): This is the BEST Martial Arts/ Self-Defense/ Fitness gym in the Triangle. They reach out and keep you engaged!!! I have years of martial arts experience and the team there always finds a way to push us to be better!!! They have so many classes at many different times all week long. It even fits into a crazy 12 hour nurse's schedule that never has specific days. Take the chance you will not be disappointed!!!
Troy Cam: I love the classes there and the people are wonderful! The instructors really know what they’re doing and really cares about your progress. I joined 5 months ago and see myself being there for a great number of years!
Shayne Ruffing: Excellent instructors, class options and community. I have been training in martial arts for twenty years-This is one of the best communities of action I have ever seen. World class Krav, badass BJJ, superior Fitness programs. MKR is the o no y gym membership anyone needs.
Jarrod day: After almost 8 months going to KMR I am still amazed at how great the owner, all the teachers and staff, and the content are. It's been such a great experience that I've brought my son in to the community here. It's a great way to get and stay fit while learning effective, real-life self defense tactics.
Michala Frederick: Wonderful instructors, members and community. Highly recommend for anyone wanting to learn basic self defense and have some fun 😊
Oscar Lopert: Six months ago, I decided to get out of my comfort zone and learn something different. I knew from the start I was going to reap the benefits of a physical fitness program but never realized how vital self-defense knowledge was. Every instructor is extremely knowledgeable and able to convey the subject matter to their students. I am more confident today, that I can get myself out of a hot mess if needed. Thank you KMR for accepting me into the family fold.
Timothy Fisher: Man, what to say. I came to KMR, uh...three years ago? Longer? COVID threw a wrench into the works there for a bit, but I've been part of the community, even when I'm only there in spirit, for a while now.And I can say, definitively, that joining is one of the best decisions of my life. KMR hits (pun intended) on multiple fronts; great exercise, incredible confidence boost, and a community like no other. Everyone (staff and other members) are warm, welcoming, and there to ensure you have the best experience possible. The instructors are the perfect combination of serious/by-the-book and lighthearted. If you're looking to increase your fitness, boost your confidence, make friends, and enjoy a welcoming community - pull a Nike and just do it.
Stephanie Orihood: Just started about a month ago with KMR and would highly recommend. Everyone from staff to coaches to members has been supportive, welcoming and friendly. Love that they not only have krav classes but also basic fitness classes as well. Can't wait to keep training!
Katie Hall: I’ve been coming here for years and the work outs always makes me feel so strong. The community here is consistently supportive. Can’t recommend this place enough!
Amy Billmyer: This is such a wonderful program with great instructors and especially love the Woman’s Self Defense classes that are offered!
R W: I went here several years ago. The classes were challenging and the owner seemed friendly and knowledgeable. But I had several bad experiences with one instructor named Quentin. He was not very friendly or welcoming towards new students. I ultimately ended up quitting due to his attitude.
Mustafa Basil: My journey with Krav Maga Raleigh has been nothing short of transformative. As a member, I've found a space where fitness and personal growth coexist harmoniously. This is not your ordinary gym, it's a sanctuary that encourages each one of us to push our boundaries, exceed our expectations, and learn valuable life skills. What sets Krav Maga Raleigh apart is the quality of training. Each session is thoughtfully designed, challenging, and enjoyable. The trainers are highly skilled, bringing a wealth of experience and passion to each class. They make it their mission to ensure that every member, regardless of skill level, feels engaged and empowered. However, the true heart of Krav Maga Raleigh lies in its community. It's a supportive and encouraging environment that makes you feel part of a bigger family. The camaraderie I've experienced here has played a crucial role in my fitness journey and has positively impacted my everyday life.I couldn't be happier with my decision to join Krav Maga Raleigh. This gym has helped me become not just fitter, but also a more confident and resilient person. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking a dynamic, effective, and community-driven approach to fitness.
Jason Ardila Galvis: It is an exceptional place, with expert trainers, diverse classes, and a great community. Highly recommended!
Nicolas Ruiz: I would recommend KMR to anyone. It's a great way to stay active and learn self defense. The community is really great, the instructors are amazing, and there's always more to learn.
Kevin Brown: Tremendous instructors teaching a practical self-defense for everyone in a safe, supportive environment. The instructors and the wonderful community of people make this an outstanding Krav Maga school!
Nick: 5 stars and worth every one. Great trainers, staff and atmosphere!
jose rivas: The best place to learn self-defense in the area, the staff is very attentive, they have well-prepared professionals, and overall good energy in each class. Highly recommended.
Genesis Martinez: I’ve been attending KMR for two years coming up. I can say I’ve really grown due to how amazing the instructors are at producing good students. It has been a great experience for me, and along the way I’ve made some really awesome friends. It’s a great community of people, not to mention a legit self defense school that prepares you for the real world. 10/10!For the ladies, they’re also opening up more classes for us which is great. There’s nothing like punching the bag and updating your gal pal on the latest highlight. Back to focus though!
Themis Stone: Experienced and skilled teachers, rock-solid curriculum.
fasari burgess: Krav Maga Raleigh has been a great experience for me and my family. It’s allowed us to learn some cool moves, get in great shape and most importantly meet some incredible people. From the trainers to the members. We have built some really strong connections. I always love going and pushing myself mentally and physically, and to be able to that with so many amazing people is a real blessing. Krav Maga Raleigh is not just a gym, but a community.

Kristy Buchanan: I attended Rich and Kristin's Women's Self Defense class. I really appreciated their pragmatic approach to self defense — they made me feel like I don't need a black belt to defend myself. I learned a lot in just a couple hours and encourage anyone considering it to take their class. You'll learn not only how to handle yourself in a scary or difficult situation, but how to avoid finding yourself in those situations from the start.

Carolina Self Defense & Krav Maga: what do users think?
Anastasia Jeffcoat: I attended a seminar and learned a lot of useful real-world skills. Everyone was very friendly and encouraging, and I’m planning to go to more classes in the future!
Amanda: I took the women's self-defense seminar with some friends. We were all nervous about the contact aspect of the training, but Darren and his team put us at ease. They are all friendly with a very welcoming attitude and have a good mixture of fun/seriousness. The class was very well organized and broke down into useful easy-to-manage steps. I feel what I did learn is useful and applicable as is. The team does a great job with instruction and making sure exercises are practiced safely. The only thing that would be nice is if there were a few more aids to walk around when practicing the exercises. Highly recommend it to anyone wanting to learn more self-defense in a safe and welcoming environment.
lara Hettiarachchi: I took a women’s self defense class and it was so beneficial. I feel much safer from what I was taught. Thank you so much
Schnauzer mama: Just finished the women's self defense seminar. The class was great! I was nervous about going to a self defense class especially one with contact but everyone was friendly, threw in humor and taught us well. I'm planning on continuing my self defense training here. They put me at ease 😊
April J Reeves: Whether you are looking to learn the basics or trying to develop your skills. This is the place to come. I came for a self defense class and loved it. Everyone is welcome.
Maressa Briel Hakos: My daughter and I took the women's self defense seminar. It was full of useful information and we learned some great defense techniques. The time flew by! I would highly recommend the seminar.
Tatyana Pearson: I took the Women's Self Defense Seminar and I learned so much!!! It was tangible enough that I was able to go home and practice and I left feeling a little bit more confident. The instructor and assistant (I'm so sorry, I can't remember you guy's names :( I took the class in December if that helps!) were super detailed and met us where we were in our experience. I love that it worked for someone who had never punched anything in their life and could be helpful for people who may have a little more experience. Even in a class with others, it felt personalized and I felt safe to learn and practice. My bestie and I had a great time!
Tez Gooding: My nieces and I took the family self-defense class and they had a blast. Prior to the class, I didn't know what to expect and I wasn't sure how they would do at their age (9 & 10) but it was awesome. The instructors were great! They walked the class through each move, so everyone would understand and the girls had a blast. I was not disappointed and will definitely recommend this class to others.
Julie Fry: I took the Becoming a Dangerous Woman seminar with Darren and it was absolutely amazing - jam packed with lots of useful information and moves/techniques. Darren is fabulous teacher - approachable, funny, empathetic and knowledgable. He can put the room at ease even in the midst of discussing possibly triggering topics. I would highly recommend this place to anyone considering checking it out. My 8yo daughter takes the classes for kids and she loves it as well!
Tara A: I took the women’s self defense clinic and thought it was really good. Every girl/woman should take it. Just a heads up, they do show videos of women being attacked in order to explain how different moves that would help, but if you’ve been assaulted before, it could be a little triggering. It’s meant well though. Definitely a worthwhile class to take.
Karol Pantaline: I LOVE THIS PLACE! I decided to take the introduction seminar after some issues from my past started resurfacing. Darren & all of the instructions I’ve met are the most generous, kind and compassionate people in the world. Each class is helping me regain my confidence and sense of safety.I recommend this establishment to everyone I have a conversation with. Check them out!!!
Laura Seastrum: Positive:Professionalism,QualityGreat class! Learned a lot and the instructors really care about helping people learn to defend themselves. I will be back for more.
Chris Giusto: My wife, two daughters, and I took the family self-defense class and really enjoyed it! My girls were a little hesitant, especially my 9 year old when we arrived and she saw the red and black paint scheme and the boxing dummies. But as soon as Darren started talking, I could see their uneasiness melt away. He was very friendly and his approach made a very serious topic less intimidating for the kids. The staff was great as well, and my oldest especially enjoyed working with Sid. I can't say enough good things about the experience!
Laila Waddell: This was the first time that I had ever gone to any self-defense class and I was nervous at first. The instructors were very encouraging from the beginning and empowered every single person during the seminar. Would definitely come back
Katherine Lohff: We have really enjoyed our time taking classes at CSDKM. Everyone is so friendly and encouraging, the instructors are great at breaking down moves for beginners while also helping and leaving room for more intermediate and advanced people. They were also very accommodating in helping us find a membership package that worked for us. We HIGHLY recommend for anyone looking for self-defense or fight training!! :)
Olivia French: I decided to do the self-defense seminar with a few friends. It was very informative and we had a lot of fun! We got a nice workout in and learned some moves that would help us in case we need them. It wasn’t too difficult, and it was nice to turn on that on switch! The young lady that came and spoke on her experience was super impactful and incredibly sweet! You never know when you need something like this so I’d rather be prepared. Thank you!
Kayla Green: Positive:QualityI recently took one of the seminars on "becoming a dangerous woman" and it was amazing! The instructors were super fun and knowledgeable and genuinely wanted to help us learn how to defend ourselves. I learned a lot and feel more powerful than ever now that I know some of the basics. I will definitely be taking more classes here.
Hannah Eason: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueI just took the 8 week self defense bootcamp, and it was awesome. I learned a lot in a short time, and I highly recommend it!! I have no prior self defense experience and felt completely comfortable. Darren, Scott, and Paige were incredible teachers and I really enjoyed learning from them.
EMMA AUTEN: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueI took the self defense class for women this past weekend and enjoyed it so much. Darren is a great instructor and I would recommend to anyone!
Anita Holton: My son took a 2.5 hr class for upcoming college students. He loved the class. The instructor was awesome - very informative, entertaining, and knowledgeable. My son enjoyed the class so much he plans on taking some more. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for self-defense class.
J Suddreth: I took a class with my mom (I’m sixteen), and I learned so much in one class! I felt so powerful and I feel safer now than I did. I’m 5’4 and 110 lbs soaking wet, so I’ve always been very afraid of somebody trying to take me because I’m easy to pick up and not very muscular. The class taught me it’s not all about strength, but strategy. I am definitely going back!

Jessica Sullivan: Can’t say enough good things about this gym. My 8 year old son takes Brazilian jiujitsu and the coaches are second to none. The energy coach Thom brings in the room keeps everyone so engaged and excited to be there. Not only that but they take a real interest in the kids and train them not just for bjj but for life. They teach them they are leaders in their community and “10 ft tall” They command respect and teach discipline with a firm hand but also so kind and caring at the same time. Greyson, Karl and Thom are treasures and my kids a better person from training with them.
Colin Kiser: I'd been waiting to train BJJ for years, and finally pulled the trigger at Gracie Raleigh 2 months ago, along with my 7 yr old son. Though the gym has many positives, I've specifically enjoyed the overall culture or learning, support, and friendliness (particularly towards newbies). Patrick Doyle: Positive:QualityAwesome gym. Really enjoyed training here. Instructors are all very high quality and it's a friendly atmosphere with some great people.

It’s a place where I know I can always come to focus and learn. The instructors here pull from real world experience and competition, and they know how to break down Jiu jitsu into bite sized pieces. I think the best part of this group is that you can train at whatever level you want. If you want to be competitive you can find that here, if you want to focus on your fitness or if you‘re just starting and want to try it out, you will find people that are interested in the same thing and on the same level as you. It’s an all around welcoming environment. They also have an awesome kids program here. It’s really cool to see a school that genuinely enjoys teaching younger kids about grappling/jiu Jitsu, and the parents are excited about it too.Hopefully this helps, I would definitely recommend this place!

IRONGRIP JIU JITSU: what do users think?
Thomas Ruocchio: Best decision of my life. Showed up to a trial class after missing the sign up link, and Glayton (head instructor) came out and talked to me for 20+ minutes before even taking my first class. His personal approach and connection to every student is something I never could have expected but value beyond belief.IronGrip has made me a better human being, not just jiu jitsu practitioner. Glayton and every student make it feel not just like a gym but a community.Over the past 7 months IronGrip has grown me physically, mentally, and spiritually and it’s all thanks to Glayton and the entire gym. Best place ever
Ian Schnatterly (itschnatt): I'm still very new to BJJ, but Glayton and his students at IronGrip are wonderful. It didn't take long to begin to feel the sense of community, and the instruction has been forgiving for a beginner but still one of the hardest things I've ever done. I'm hooked and I couldn't be happier choosing IronGrip Jiu Jitsu.
Brian Cooley: Started a couple months ago and it has been the best decision I've made. Everyone is super friendly so getting to know people is easy but also have some really talented people teaching the classes
Raphael Carolina: Positive:ProfessionalismGreat coach and great learning environment! Love this place
Joshua Dunn: Best decision I've made in a long long time. Glayton is a fantastic instructor and made me feel welcomed from the beginning along with everyone else in the gym. The ball is completely in your court here because everything else is already in place for you to succeed in this environment.
Ebrima Dabo: So I’ve been going to this gym for almost half a year and it’s been amazing! Glayton’s a very attentive instructor and has really helped me feel like I’m improving my game every class I go to! The community is great as well as everyone is very humble, kind, and willing to help each other. If your looking to start jiu jitsu I highly recommend you start here!
Jeremy Petranka: I’ve come to BJJ late in life, and I couldn’t have asked for a better gym. Glayton, Iron Grip’s founder, pushes his students while being extremely friendly and supportive. His technical knowledge of BJJ is off the charts, and his training style is highly effective. Perhaps most importantly, there is a sense of community and mutual support that exists both on and off the mat.
Fergus Burns: The coach is awesome and a great teacher. Also, the atmosphere is super welcoming and everyone there is nice.
Jesse Hines: IRONGRIP JIU JITSU is an excellent martial arts studio that anyone seeking to learn new skills, develop old ones, or simply find a constructive challenge can benefit from. Glayton's expertise as a martial artist and gifts as a coach create a learning environment that is highly effective and very rewarding. Both the fundamental and advanced curriculums are structured to include comprehensive reviews and practical testing. Anyone who attends consistently will learn well and learn fast. The environment is upbeat and encouraging while still remaining disciplined and focused. I highly recommend IRONGRIP JIU JITSU to anyone interested in martial arts.
Carlos Smith: When I walked into IRONGRIP JIU JITSU as a beginner, I was treated like a friend not just from Glayton, the head instructor, but from his students as well. Any feelings of unrest or intimidation I might have had, simply melted away. Glayton teaches grappling moves and then we drill with a partner. As you progress, you will start to spar or “Roll” with the other students testing your technique, efficiency and strength.I really admire the ways in which Glayton gives personal attention to every student. He shares his stories and vulnerabilities and it is through that display that we get to observe a great leader. The result is that every student becomes a teacher as well. And every new student benefits from this culture.Through these interactions you will learn about powerful grappling techniques and you will develop close friendships. This is a tribe; a family. We are competing with each other every day, but we are also rooting for each other to learn and get better. It’s one of those environments where you are encouraged to make multitudes of other positive lifestyle changes: discipline, diet, fitness, strength, etc. so that you can be the best you. This place is worth the price every day. You get what you put into it and if you are like me, you’ll love every class, every sprawl and every red-faced “Triangle” choke hold.
John Billmyer: Coach Glayton is a awesome coach. My daughter who is 6 is still trying to understand what a push up is, and in general trying to understand how to make her body do what the old students are doing and coach helps her and guides her to succeed. The shear enjoyment my daughter has while learning BJJ is very great. 10 out of 10 would highly recommend Coach Glayton to anyone wanting to learn BJJ.
Jonathan Benimana: IronGrip is the best place to learn Jiu-Jitsu and also life lessons. Coach Clayton is knowledgeable about the game and the human body. Since joining IronGrip, I have lost 60 pounds and changed my outlook on life. By joining IronGrip, you will meet a fantastic group of people who will help you improve. Do not hesitate; join now! It is worth the price!
Othman Alkandari: Since Dec 2019, I have been training with the IronGrip team. I can say that I am thankful and having an amazing experience training in a family environment. IronGrip team is a very welcoming team to new members from different backgrounds and cultures. Also, the IronGrip team is helping me a lot with training and is on my side when I have my bad days.Glayton Melo is a fantastic coach. He is family and best friend. Also, He is an understanding person and a very patient coach, especially with my English. He understands my lack of English language and gave me the time to ask my question. Also, he is very patient with teaching the techniques walking me through the baby steps, and making sure everyone is doing the techniques right. Also bing thank for Alisha “Alishoooo” best office lady ever. She gave me tour in the gym and helping me with signing my papers.
Michael Bowling: Positive:Communication
A Merkel: Iron Grip BJJ exceeded my expectations from the moment I hit the ‘Request More Information’ button. It is a welcoming community and my son loves the Kids BJJ class! The class emphasizes safety, discipline and respect while teaching foundational movements. Glayton and Jared are wonderful instructors who show genuine interest in the development of each student both on and off the mat. I highly recommend!!
Zack Gomez: I've been training for 4 month at Iron Grip and I love it. Glayton is a fantastic instructor and has created a great community. The gym has a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. The techniques are clearly presented and Glayton comes around and gives pointers and tips to make sure you are getting the most out of your time in the gym. Asking questions and rolling with Glayton reveals the deep level of knowledge in practicing and teaching BJJ.
Myles Morgan: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueI’m a beginner at BJJ and have enjoyed training at irongrip for the last few months. Great community, welcoming to questions, and focused on improvement.
Carver Goetz: I came to Iron Grip about 3 months ago no knowing much about the art of Jiu Jitsu, my first class I ever attended I felt welcomed. Iron grip as such a good group of men and women that provide a positive atmosphere for learning and competition. Glayton, who is the instructor is very nice and extremely knowledgeable about Jiu Jitsu, I wouldn’t want to be training under anyone else. I would highly recommend this gym for anyone that might be interested in starting Jiu Jitsu as it provides such a great learning environment.
Scott Sorensen: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueHonestly, life changing. Amazing coaching and I really enjoy my time here.
Jesse Ruiz: If you want to learn jiu jitsu from a true master a true virtuoso there is no other place nearby that can compare. A place to grow and learn with more than teammates but people who eventually become family.
Christina Kim: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueI really enjoy training at iron grip, I like The culture, really good leadership, and professional staff. I really enjoy coming in everyday and learning something new with people I enjoy.
