dan smith: This is a beautiful place to grab a cocktail. Dark lounge with couches and comfy chairs. Multiple nooks and crannies. Watts & Ward has a great speak easy vibe. The cocktail menu is not overly ambitious but they are doing a great job delivering the classics. This is definitely a great place to take someone from out of town who’s looking for standard cocktails with an upscale aesthetic.

The staff (Lydia, hopefully the spelling is not to bad) was very helpful and answered all of my questions and taught me a lot about mezcal and tequila! I also had Siempre and La venenosa raicilla which was a unique and exciting experience, ecpeically La venenosa raicilla, probably the best spirit I've had so far. The atmosphere and vibe of this place is immaculate but that’s pretty much it… We ordered a few of the small plates and the only dish that was decent was the lamb. The Brussel sprouts and cauliflower were burnt and the slider bread was SO hard, I couldn’t even bite them. The drinks were just okay. Nice experience but probably just a one time thing for us.

Jay Horowitz: Full disclosure, we tried The Merchant because we indirectly know Jacob, one of the bartenders. We arrived outside the front of Virgil's puzzled about the entrance to The Merchant. We asked the hostess who inquired if we had a reservation, we did not. She called upstairs, chatted for a moment and then proceeded to move the soda vending machine aside which acts as the hidden entrance to the Merchant. Upstairs we discovered Jacob wasn't working yet so we sat at the bar and ordered a round. I had the Julep, they hand crack the ice at the bar preparing the cocktail. My wife had the Graveyard of the Atlantic. Both were quite good. We later tried the American Dream and the Aviation, both also excellent, along with an order of the duck fat fries. The fries were tasty (could have been a tad crispier), well seasoned with a good aioli on the side. Chatted with Jacob when he arrived and his dedication to his craft and his enjoyment in sharing it with his coworkers and clientele is obvious. Some of the best cocktails in Raleigh.

Las brussesls y la coliflor estaban poco cocidas mientras que el cordero estaba demasiado cocido, el queso a la parrilla era... soviético, las hamburguesas y las papas fritas eran decentes a buenas, pero no valía la pena el precio de la entrada, que es más de lo que dice en línea. Mi bebida fue lo suficientemente buena para uno pero no lo suficientemente buena para otro. Para rematar, el servidor era agradable... pero nunca alrededor, incluso para rellenar las aguas. La próxima vez, iré a Whiskey Kitchen.

Oscar Nemeth: A fantastic little bar adjacent to the Morgan St. food hall, Aunty Betty's has a great selection of different cocktails, a very knowledgeable and friendly bartender who is great at making custom one-off cocktails, and really high quality liquors, liqueurs, vermouths, etc. to make anything you could imagine.Stopping by in the middle of the day is always great since it's usually not terribly busy. In the summer when you need to cool off it's great - the bartender is a huge hydrohomie and his cocktails are always cool and refreshing.The prices seem high until you realize just how expensive some of the bottles used in the drinks are, the creative process behind the drinks, the skill in mixing, and the fact that you're in a popular part of Raleigh.

dan smith: This was my first time here and it was early for cocktails but the atmosphere was great. The small bar was mostly filled with folks (bartenders?) talking shop with the bartender who was obviously well respected by the folks at the bar. Gin and tonic and bartender’s choice dirty martini were both lovely. Several local bartenders have recommended Aunty Betty’s for craft cocktails and I was definitely not disappointed and will comeback soon.
Marianna Erika: So the vibes are immaculate here. I often get the "IDK just make me a weird daquiri" and I have yet to be disappointed. Unfortunately, during the weeknights they have usually one bartender and it can take upwards of 20 min to get a drink. This has happened on 2 occasions. On the weekend, I have not had this problem.

store Music: Was there one night and saw security kick a guy out by dumping him over the railing and into the trash, meanwhile staff laughed about it. Security also barged into the girls restroom because someone complained another woman was “taking too long” using the restroom, super uncomfortable. Lastly management is super unprofessional, has 22 year old bartenders messaging former employees being a petty sounding board for the company super professional. On top of the fact that most of their bartenders here under pour and over charge.

Blaire Bear: Do NOT go here on karaoke night or EVER! We arrived at 9 and signed up for a song as it was my friends last night in the US and karaoke with us was one last thing she needed to check off her list. Another girl walked up in front us when were called and stole the slot we signed up for when it was finally called (2+ hours later). When we tried to explain the situation one of the guys at the stage (blond longish hair, black tank-top, and tattoos) started to scream at us and talk over us without listening repeating what was not relevant. Managed to hold off tears until I got home but I had only wanted to explain what happened he could of just politely said he couldn't help us. Instead he tried to escalate the whole thing for no reason! My friends boyfriend walked up to just see what was going on and the guy immediately changed his behavior being nicer to us (barely) but while trying to square up with him for no reason. We had to claim he wasn't with us to get the dude to stop. Even if he has had issues in the past to make him cautious with guys it was uncalled for. Honestly, the way he was acting he seemed like he wanted to start a fight. Hopefully, this was just an off night for the guy but it was truly horrible, unprofessional, and dangerous staff behavior. This the first time in all my years that I have ever had an issue at a bar. I will NEVER go here again and I STRONGLY discourage anyone else to go here.
