I normally don’t review places but I’ve had 3 lessons and 1 group lesson and I wanted to take some time to show some appreciation to the Fred Astaire Dance Studio. The introductory lessons gave me a great place to start as the introduce the different types of dances they offer and allow you to pick your favorites to learn.Other than learned how to dance my main motivation was exercise and dance is a great workout for the body but also the mind. Taking classes like deep stretch (much needed), advanced jazz, contemporary and even ballet on the weekend are exactly what my body needed. Not only are these classes inclusive and a good length, but the level I chose for each one is the perfect level for me. Funny thing is, I’ve actually met other college students in my exact same position and seen some old friends in my exact same classes. For her (a 2-year-old), she got joyful movement and physical connection with me, plus a teacher with the BEST attitude, props, and even gift bags (!!!) at the end of the semester. For me, the improv-style and hip-hop classes I took were what finally made me feel comfortable in my body and soul again after having my first kid — plus the instructors are SO high-quality and bring a beautiful balance of skill-building, solid workouts, and sheer enjoyment. Addie Council: i’ve been training at this studio for a little over a year and it’s really changed the way i see dance. it offers professional training but also a friendly and welcoming environment. they offer a wide range of classes for a wide range of people. i HIGHLY recommend. :)

Devon Cholon: I have been going to this dance school since I was 3. I started with ballet, switched to modern, and then back to ballet. My sister also has been taking class, since she was 6, as an aerialist. For both of us, this studio has truly become a home away from home. All of the teachers really know their stuff and how to teach, and as a student, you quickly become part of a talented and very collaborative community. For a couple of years, I tried other studios, and they don’t hold a candle to DSBPA. The curriculum is tough enough that you improve faster than anywhere else, without ever going overboard to the point that it’s no longer fun. These classes get me through my week. As for shows, they are done like professional shows and you learn so much about the dance and theatre industries through them. Also they’re just insanely fun. I’m so grateful to have wound up at this studio.

Ayeshia Beavers: Very good experience. I have been coming here for 3 years and the attentiveness and care that the teachers pay to students is phenomenal. Since they have reopened from COVID 19 closure they have come back in a very safe and comfortable manner. There are designated bathrooms for studios, designated spaces for dancers and assigned equipment . Very proud of the precautions they are taking to keep me and my fellow classmates safe.

Tiffany Clark: The only studio in the Durham area (and those surrounding, let's be real) that not only offers rigorous, professional-quality training but also like....aren't jerks about it? No cliques, no snide teachers, no berating the students for anything whatsoever, simply encouraging and pushing everyone to do their very best every day. I'm 26, and just started my dance training about a year and a half ago in the recreational adult ballet classes, but have since been allowed to move to the student division classes and study along with the pre-teens I'm in class with. I love it more than literally anything I've ever done, and I'm so grateful to be taken so seriously as an adult -- even though I'll never be able to go professional, even though I'm "old", even though I've still got a bit of catching up to do. This place is magic, and I can't say thank you enough!!

Monica Abdelmalak: We decided to come here to choreograph our first dance at our wedding. We have no dancing experience, so we didn’t really expect much. We just wanted to look somewhat put together rather than just swaying back and forth (lol). Julia was our instructor, and she was amazing! She helped us gain confidence and challenged us. We did the wedding package which was 5 lessons. We ended up with a very sweet and fun waltz which all of our wedding guests loved. It was an overall great experience for us. :)

Jorge Santoyo: My fiancé and I decided to take some salsa classes before a wedding in South America. We loved it so much that we kept coming back and have learned some rumba, bachata, swing, and are starting on waltz. Natalia and Vladimir are great! They are also helping choreograph our wedding dance. We plan on continuing to come for the foreseeable future!

Deena H: We took dance lessons at this studio for our first dance. Alyona was super engaging and charming and we loved our lessons with her! She came up with a great choreography for our first dance, and helped provide lessons for me and my dad as well for that dance. Both dances were a huge hit at the wedding, and my husband and I now look forward to returning for classes to learn for fun. We also ended up picking up a ton of foundational dance knowledge as part of learning our dances. Andrea Selch: My daughter has had a wonderful experience learning ballroom at Fred Astaire Dance Studios in Durham, NC. The instructors are accomplished dancers and teachers and the atmosphere is professional and welcoming. Through FADS she has been able to compete successfully at a range of competitions--from the local to national level. If there were a 10 star review to give, I would do it!

Dee: FADS Durham is amazing. Each instructor has their own way of bringing out the best in their dancers. They truly believe that everyone that walks through their doors can learn to dance. Their pride in your accomplishments is geniune. My lessons with her have been the biggest driving force to continue learning and pushing myself.In addition, I have a positive impression of the entire NRSM staff. Everybody has been very friendly and respectful to me, and it's clear that they care a lot about the students and their education.

My teachers are very knowledgeable and accomplished in their craft and love teaching as well. I look forward to going to class every week. Patricia Somers: I love my cello lessons! I am an adult learner, and my lessons are one of my favorite things all week. I learn SO much each time, and my teacher is patient, fun and inspiring. I also play in the cello choir, which is an opportunity to play with other people, and learn something about playing in a group. greg gibbs: While my children enjoyed the classes, the management are liars. I requested a refund 2 days after my card was billed and was refused. She said that her hands are tied and that it is not her policy, but Kindermusiks refund policy. Well, I have found numerous local chapters that will issue refunds for unused classes. Many will refund UP TO TWO MONTHS OF CLASSES if you are not happy. I understand the economics of credit card transactions and the charges associated. I offered to pay double her fees that she had to pay, but nope, no refund. I would not recommend this place, but the numerous other locations that offer this program and more consumer friendly refund policies. I will be using my month of classes when my kids are old enough to not be terrors bc of the class being during nap time. I will come with a smile and never come back again after I use my credit.And for my adult perspective, you can do the same thing and save $65 with a CD of kids music, some scarves, a stuffed animal and a kids drum.

Monique Williams Boyd: My daughter has attended Kindermusik at North Raleigh School of Music for almost 2 years. She has never really attended daycare, so Kindermusik gives her a chance to not only learn about music, but also how to successfully interact with her peers. Anne and Erin are wonderful at engaging young children. The classes are lively and fun; we look forward to it every week!

Karen Hite: My daughter started attending Kindermusik classes from NRSOM when she was 20 months old. She's 3-1/2 now and still looks forward to it every week! It has helped her so much developmentally. It's so much more than just learning about music, although she does love that and walks around singing all the time now. She has always struggled with shyness and insecurity but music has been her bridge to having more confidence. She definitely feels safe and secure and confident enough to explore and try new things at Kindermusik and that has spilled over into her life outside of Kindermusik. Erin, the owner and one of the teachers, is fantastic to work with and she runs a top-notch school. There's not much chance of "maxing out" so to speak...a young child can start in Kindermusik and move up different levels of the Kindermusik program and then even move on to take private lessons in voice or many other instruments offered by NRSOM. It's a fantastic place and a lot of good things happen there.
