Rachel Nosacka: Service was really really lacking. There only 10-15 guests total while we were there yet our server rarely came by. We ordered a second round of drinks that never came and watched the bar tenders on their phone or just standing- clearly the server hadn't passed along our drink orders. When we tried to flag her down to our table for the ticket she ignored us. When we finally went to the bar to pay for our 1 round of drinks she stood with her back to us talking to the bartender ignoring us while the 2nd bartender was on her phone ignoring us. mind you this is a very small room. You have to work to not notice what's going on around you. Then she finally gave us the ticket with 2 round of drinks on it. When we said that we never got our second round she tried to argue with us. The atmosphere was great and music was good. The drinks we got were very tasty. We we're planning to bring our friends but changed our minds. Do not want to deal with this kind of service again for the price.

Heather Beann: Love the speak easy vibe. The staff was exceptional, as well as the Bees Knees. Basically a lemon drop shot, a drink I have never been fond of, has a subtle sweetness to it because of the honey. Making it a much better drink to enjoy. The cozy environment that it gives off is similar to the Great Gastby novel, making it great for an intimate night out. Do not bring a first date here, though. Your experience might be different than mine, in high hopes that it is, but it is too comfortable of a place to bring someone you just met. Chefs Wild: Small but mighty in the bourbon world, this spot boasts an incredible collection of both modern and historical spirits including pre-Prohibition bottles. House made syrups and knowledgeable bartenders round out a great experience.

Jay Horowitz: Full disclosure, we tried The Merchant because we indirectly know Jacob, one of the bartenders. We arrived outside the front of Virgil's puzzled about the entrance to The Merchant. We asked the hostess who inquired if we had a reservation, we did not. She called upstairs, chatted for a moment and then proceeded to move the soda vending machine aside which acts as the hidden entrance to the Merchant. Upstairs we discovered Jacob wasn't working yet so we sat at the bar and ordered a round. I had the Julep, they hand crack the ice at the bar preparing the cocktail. My wife had the Graveyard of the Atlantic. Both were quite good. We later tried the American Dream and the Aviation, both also excellent, along with an order of the duck fat fries. The fries were tasty (could have been a tad crispier), well seasoned with a good aioli on the side. Chatted with Jacob when he arrived and his dedication to his craft and his enjoyment in sharing it with his coworkers and clientele is obvious. Some of the best cocktails in Raleigh.

We sampled 5 or 6 different plates and while the descriptions sounded great, nearly all of them were a complete letdown. The brussesls and cauliflower were undercooked while the lamb was overcooked, the grilled cheese was...Soviet, the burgers were and fries were decent to good, but not worth the price of admission, which is more than it states online. My drink was good enough for one but not good enough for another. To cap it off, the server was nice...but never around--even to refill waters. Next time, I'll just go to Whiskey Kitchen.
Josean Martinez: Made reservations with some friends and the beginning of the experience was great. We were received in a welcoming way and when entering the establishment the vibe was awesome and the decorations were spot on. Once seated, the problems started, our server was not able to explain or recommend drinks effectively. We order a sharable drink and specified we wanted the presentation shown in the pictures. The server comes back with a cheap looking skull full of ice and a drink that was impossible to serve effectively. We told him we were willing to wait for the right serving experience and got an excuse and left the table without our approval. He basically did not check on us for the rest of the night but checked on the tables adjacent to us. The drink itself was bland and not balanced. We decided to give a chance to a second drink and the experience was pretty much the same with not balanced drinks and poor service so we left after that point with plenty of time in our reservation.

Dilan B: I went here for the first time with a friend on Monday and then last night with my girlfriend. The food is what gives this review at least a 3 star. Their pizzas are very tasty, alongside the cocktails. While prices are expensive, that would not be an issue if it were not for the service. Both times we had some of the worst service I have ever received in the Raleigh area. Mind you it was a different bartender and V Pizza server the two times I went. The employees never once greeted us or acted friendly. It was as if they hated being there and giving customer service. In fact each time I was the one who asked how their nights were going to which the reply was always something along the lines of “fine.” They never even cared to ask us. Please hire folks who want to be there (this is coming from a current bartender and former server by the way).

Chris Evans: Flask is a great little cocktail bar with inventive recipes that they are always updating. There are several talented bartenders. We normally see Rico, but all are great. There is often live music on an outside patio and a large windowed door rolls up to make the whole place open air when the weather is nice. They are next to a great little pizza place and you can order anything off the restaurant menu from the bar.

My friend order herself an margarita with Don Julio 1952 the first thing the bartender says “you know that’s topself, I want to make sure you know because if you take it down and make and drink I’m gonna be mad”.. That was a completely inappropriate comment to make of course we going pay for our drinks.. This is the first bad experience I’ve had in brier creek since living in the area.

dan smith: Bittersweet is my favorite cocktail bar downtown and is definitely in the running for my favorite cocktail bar in Raleigh. They have an extensive list of house craft cocktail creations from boozy old fashioneds to mild spa-waters and everything in between. Their selection of Gin might be the best in the triangle. You can go on Gin safari with Gin and Tonic. Literally a shot of the Gin of your choice a glass of ice, a lime wedge and a bottle of tonic. I have found several new Gins I like this way. Sniff and sip the Gin by itself, then make my own GnT as strong/weak as I like. Bittersweet also has a great selection of visually beautiful and delicious desserts including a rotating selection of house made pies. It’s just a great place to grab a drink and something sweet anytime or after dinner at any of the nearby restaurants.

It’s nice that you have a waitress (or a bartender at the bar if you’re sat there) so you didn’t have to wait in line at the bar to order. We will be back for sure!

Nicole G: This is a tough one to write because I genuinely think they have great desserts and those alone are 5/5.However, their espresso martinis and their service are not great.If you’re from the northeast, you’re not going to like the espresso martinis here. They’re made with just lightly sweetened espresso and vodka, so they’re very bitter, not much sweetness, and lack the smooth taste of a well balanced drink. I’ve tried this multiple times and had my friend also from the northeast try it and she agreed.Far worse than the espresso martinis though is the customer service. There are a number of rude waitresses that I encounter every time I go in. Most recently, I had tried ordering a modified espresso martini more towards my taste, and the waitress asked if I still wanted the “Demi-glacé” that comes with it. I was confused and asked if she meant a glaze on my pie, and she rudely said “no, it’s in the martini, did you read the menu?” The menu said nothing about a demi-glacé or any type of glaze in the martini. Myself and my party were very put off by her attitude with us.I’ll come back in the future for their desserts because as I mentioned earlier, they’re great, but I definitely need to take a break after my last encounter with the staff.

We ordered the chocolate brownie sundae, coffee crème brûlée and some cocktails. It was my first time trying the coffee flavoured crème brûlée and it was very good. I suggest to get a reservation done beforehand as this place is rush at all times.

Cute space with vintage aesthetics which is very nice and comfortable with plenty of seating. The overall aesthetics of the space and comfortability is a 4*. A few things on the patio seemed out of place but overall a nice space.This particular evening the bartender in The Mud Room demeanor was not friendly, or enthusiastic. That individual didn't demonstrate good customer service warranting anything over an overall 3* based on my experience. Even the person cleaning off the table didn't engage any.I had a Hendricks mule, not in a mule cup. The lemon and ginger were overpowering - way too much carbonation. I like that I get more bang for my buck in the tall glass but as a courtesy, the bartender could share they don't carry the copper mules. This would've leveled up the experience. For me, a copper mule cup is necessary for a proper Moscow Mule.Customer service usually inspires me to return places but in this case, it's the space and others who have enjoyed themselves. I hope to return for the comedy night in the future, hopefully, a better experience.
Mariss: Watts & Ward is a unique 1920’s themed speakeasy style bar located on S. Blount St in downtown Raleigh situated in the basement of the Montague building. It features 4 bars, The Mud Room, Main Bar, Patio & Library. I have visited twice now and enjoy the grown & sexy vibe and diverse mature crowd here. The staff whom I’ve interacted with appear to enjoy their place of work and take pride in that. I visited recently on a Sunday when service was slower during the holiday and this evening for comedy night. The service was excellent tonight, the bartenders were very friendly and bar service was offered while seated. I’ve ordered the Far East Ricky with Tanqueray Gin, Lime, Cucumber, Mint and a Egg White and the Penicillin with Johnnie Walker Red Label, Ginger, Honey, Lemon, Islay Scotch and enjoyed both. I love the classic jams they play as well. Good music. Ryan who worked the door tonight urged me to return for live jazz on Thursday.I really enjoy how the Prohibition and Roaring 20’s vibe is carried throughout the venue. It makes you feel like you flew off a page of the Great Gatsby. This venue is huge and features a beautiful garden patio. I look forward to returning for the live Jazz night, patio and more comedy.
