Alesha May-Arthur: Terrible service, don't waste your time going here. I would give it zero stars, but it wouldn't allow. I am a new patient, first time ever doing physical therapy. I arrived 12 minutes late for my appointment although I tried to call but was on hold and no one never answered for me to tell them I was running late due to traffic. I have other Duke providers and was a former employee and know that the policy is a 15 minute window after that you will have to reschedule. I also did the echeckin so paperwork wouldn't be an issue. The physical therapist-Rob Wiese told the receptionist to tell me that since I was 12 minutes late I had to reschedule. I left work early, drove 30 minutes to get there, fought through traffic but obviously he didn't care about that. When I asked the receptionist the policy she confirmed that it was 15 minutes but it is up to the discretion of the provider if they want to see you or not. What is the purpose of a policy if a provider can pick and choose when they decide to implement it?? As I told the receptionist he could've did a meet and greet, told me what to expect with PT, gave me some home exercises to start and cut my session short 10 or 15 minutes for being late which I would've respected. Racial disparities in healthcare is very prevalent and as I looked around all the patients there were older and white. I'm sure if I was a white older patient he wouldn't have turned me away. I also was informed that his patient before me he had a difficult time with and it had been a stressful morning, but as I stated "what does that have to do with me". I work in healthcare and things happen unexpectedly all the time that is nature of the job. My question is, was his discretion my race or he didn't feel like seeing me (he needed a break) due to the previous client. Either way it is WRONG on every level! What is very amusing is that I educate medical professionals and he will just be another case I use to demonstrate how broken/inadequate our healthcare system is. This is also reason why most of my healthcare providers are minorities so there won't be any question about race, I feel seen and heard. He didn't even give me an opportunity or have the respect to come out to speak to me instead he sent the receptionist. I even called the clinical coordinator to voice my concerns and haven't heard back from her. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere.

Maigan Howard: This place is awesome. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I’ve had the pleasure working with Mike and Roland. Both are absolutely fantastic and I would highly recommend them both. I’ve had quite a few knee surgeries, 6 to be exact and this office has provided by far the best PT experience. I even observe interactions with other PT staff and their patients and each demonstrate intentionality. It’s really awesome to see that kind of consistency in a medical office. Great job!

Telo Merase: Potentially some of the worst customer service and most belligerent staff, from front desk, to therapists, and management I've ever seen or worked with are at Duke Specialty Rehab Services Midtown. Every visit to this office has been a battle and uphill climb. Front desk staff badger and harass clients, they are offensively aggressive and unfriendly about social distancing enforcement. If you are one minute late you are usually turned away and laughed at and made fun of behind your back by the front desk staff (I could hear the commentary and watched as someone was turned away). Therapists make faces, roll their eyes, and sigh when dealing with patients that may have medical issues or need more time. I have seen therapists be downright rude, berating and yelling at clients and family members, taking their personal issues and grievances out on those in their care.When further input or follow up is requested from the management about issues with the therapists or front desk staff that demonstrate a high level of attitude and the lowest possible customer service or concern for customer satisfaction, there is no phone call or response. Yes, we are in the midst of a pandemic but you absolutely do not have to be mean, rude, unhappy, and unpleasant across all your levels of staff. If front desk, therapy, and management dislike their area of practice to this extent, perhaps it's time to consider a radical career change. It's unnecessary to spread more unhappiness and make an already trying time that much worse. For the office's management and beyond that for Duke to not even acknowledge, communicate about, or address problems at this location seems unconscionable.If I had a choice, not only would I not choose any other Duke-affiliated provider but I would do more research and carefully consider other locations for physical, occupational, and speech therapy. Having to go though difficulty because of a health event and needing therapy is bad enough without having to contend with unfriendly staff with embedded ill will. The quality of care suffers when caregivers harbor and promote a negative environment where patients have difficulty trusting the providers and will not feel safe. It makes a time when you are vulnerable worse and does not contribute to healing and recovery in any way. I can't recommend more strongly that you seek quality care and far better service elsewhere. Unfortunately, in spite of the Duke name, you will not find it here.
