Jeff Cherry: It is what it is, and what it is is a traditional southern blue plate restaurant. If you want a salad or vegetarian options, keep moving. (not even the veggies are typically vegetarian by a rigorous definition of the term, because most are seasoned with meat in the traditional Southern fashion). As downtown Raleigh tilts frou-frou ( and super pricey frou-frou at that), Big Ed's, like the Mecca and Coopers stands as a remnant of a bygone era.Restricciones de dieta: Virtually none. Noel Hammond: After my daughter graduated, we wanted to take my out-of-town family to Big Ed's. We knew it would probably be busy, so we decided that it would be ok to sit at different tables. When we arrived, we told them that we had 9 of us, but it would be ok to not all sit together. One of the members of the party has diabetes and he really needed to eat. She took our name and said it would be a few minutes. She then proceeded to sit other groups of people before us. After about the 5th table, we again said that we can separate, she said that is didn't matter, we needed to sit together and now it was going to be another 30 minutes...really...she was rude and dismissive. We had to go to another (better) restaurant to get food for the diabetic! We will not be back or recommend this restaurant! There are too many other locally owned businesses that know how to treat their customers well!

D: This is probably the best one in the area. I don’t know what they do differently but the other ones aren’t able to cook the burgers or garnish them as good as this location. I would only say the bartenders or servers aren’t always as nice.Also the packaging for pickup is all plastic so the food doesn’t always stay warm/fresh. Might be better to add foil or use something else to conserve the heat and prevent also sogginess.

Matthew Grubb: So I've ordered food from here multiple times. And 3 times my order has been wrong. One instance being the burger had no topping that i asked for, which the topping were not additional cost on price but ultimately was not what i ordered. The other two have been on two separate occasions i ordered a double order of tots and both times i was sent a normal order and was still charged for a double order. Im not sure what is going on at this location but it is increasingly irritating to pay for something that is not given to you. The food is good, but thats the only positive I have currently. UPDATE: Got delivery again after 2 months and they completely messed up my order the only thing right was an extra side but $5 for 4 onion rings is a joke. The Philly sandwich was missing ingredients and the side it came with it was wrong. The side was homemade potato chips instead i got tortilla chips. Very disappointed with there serivce

Ronald Bullock: My order chicken wings and a Cesar's salad, and it was AWLFUL! I ordered the philly's cheese stake, and it was like half the meat and overcook and dressing for it was old. I took one bite out of my sandwich, and that did it for us. My wife had an allergic reaction to cause her throat to close up on her.
Laurin Williams: The food at this restaurant was decent/as expected; however, the service bad enough to negate that. My bf and I were sat and waited at least 5 mins before our waiter came to ask what drinks we wanted. I asked what beers they have on tap since there was no drink menu at our table, and instead of just telling me he went to get a drink menu and dropped it off. We waited AT LEAST 10 minutes for him to come back (only when my bf flagged him down) to get our drink order. We ordered 2 waters and a bottle of bold rock cider. A good while later our food comes out and I’m still waiting on my beer. The waiter avoided coming by/near our table and stood near the kitchen looking bored for the next 15-20 minutes and then finally came back after my bf and I were done with our food, plopped my beer on the table and stayed “sorry for the wait on that.” I’m not understanding how there was a 20 minute wait on a bottled drink that didn’t even need to be poured. The restaurant was not busy at the time we came and our waiter only had one other table besides us. The Morrisville location was better IMO, I will not be back at this location.

J Neil: Ordered metro diner for delivery. The order was wrong and I assume because the online order system has a glitch.I could not place my order without picking fruit as an additional side however I guess that made the hash browns cancel out. We asked for ketchup and there was only one tiny amount of syrup. That didn’t even cover a 1/4 of my top pancake. But not only was it wrong and missing items this is how they packed my food. Why put cold fruit in with hot eggs? My over easy eggs were smashed and broken my English muffin came with no jelly and no butter, and was practically burnt. What a waste of $40!
Veronica Parks: I've been wanting to come to this place for the last year! It was well worth the wait! I had an maple bacon pancake(seasonal item). It was nice and crispy on the edges and pillow set in the middle with bacon baked all throughout the pancake. The grits was cooked to perfection! No salt or pepper needed. My niece had a cinnamon roll pancake which was just as good! My sisters had a delicious Croissant French toast and my daughter had a Berry waffle with Blueberries cooked throughout. Everyone enjoyed their meals!! We had great service from Kourtney! The young lady that sat us had a great personality. I will definitely be back in the future!
P James: Shrimp and grits were not the best I've had. The 2 grits were fried patties smothered in a white sauce. I had eaten a lot of the sauce before realizing there weren't grits in it. No one else in my party seemed to have issues with their different orders. I would probably return, but definitely not order the S&Gs.

Jazzy Leshay: This was my first visit and definitely not my last. We arrived around 1230 on a Saturday and were told we'll have a 30 min wait. Fortunately, we only waited about 5 mins. Our waitress was nice and friendly and attended to us quickly. I ordered the chicken and waffles and a mimosa. I fell in love with the first bite of my chicken. You get plenty of chicken, which includes a leg, wing, thigh, and breast with a dipping sauce that's very good. The chicken was crispy and tasty 😋 The waffles and strawberry butter were delicious. My boyfriend enjoyed his meal as well. We left full and satisfied, I can't wait to go back. Service was awesome!

The tablet on the table definitely helped with order food and drinks, although the server was attentive as well. The slider appetizers were delicious and filling. For the main course I tried beef steak bowl which was really good and delicious although, they could really add some few more pieces of diced up steak. My partner tried a chicken sandwich which she loved. Will be visiting again to try other food options on the menu.

Erin Glosser: Very nice little restaurant and bar. Good comfortable seating and delicious food. My drink was also fantastic and beautiful to look at (the Orchid martini) service was attentive and the machines at the tables helped as well. Very affordable for the experience. The sliders were a great starter and The Nashville chicken sandwich was a lovely mix of spicy and sweet and my partner's steak bowl was fresh and delicious, he maybe only needed a little bit more steak. Overall a great experience and lovely date night for us.

The place was busy, CLEAN, and had a warm atmosphere. I had the Blackened Ahi and it was THE BEST I'd ever had!...and I'm 43.The Mrs. had the BBQ Bacon burger that she loved as well.Isiah was EXCELLENT! Very respectful, attentive, and engaging. His demeanor was welcoming and he gave positives vibes at every table he served (I watched). If the service, food, and atmosphere is great, WHEN I return, I will offer a review because I now have an experience to compare it to... Anyway, my second lunch date was Friday June 30, 2023. Ironically, I had the same waitress (Mattie/Maddie?) and she was just as amazing-courteous, accommodating, and attentive- the second time around. Her knowledge of the items on the menu was great and I felt I could trust her recommendation. She gave us everything we needed and we didn't have to remind her of anything. The food was AMAZING! The first time I had the Prime Rib Sandwich and this time I had the BLT and both times I thoroughly enjoyed my food. It was fresh, hot and so good. The service was timely and we had some great people sitting next to us so it felt like we were at one big table at times. The overall experience was certainly a 10 out of 10!

S J: Parkside Restaurant was a big disappointment after a long train ride to Raleigh, NC. The hostess was not very polite with my party of 6. We were not greeted with a welcome or hello. The 1st thing out of his mouth was "do you have reservations & we cannot accommodate a party of 6"; when their were empty tables available. Then he immediately said the tables were reserved. He said we could eat outside (Very hot with no covering) or at the bar but didn't believe he had enough seats at the bar until another hostess said we have seats at the end. I really felt uncomfortable and out of place in this restaurant but my family was hungry, so we opt to stay. I ordered a BLT with tater tots and my tots were not hot, so I placed another order & it was not hot as well. My granddaughter's waffle was cold with a lump of butter that never melted & my sons shrimp & grits were lumpy. Not the place for my ethnic family. We stayed for over an hour for brunch and no guest came to sit at the reserve table that could have accommodated a party of 6. So I'm assuming this table would be reserved all day! I was impressed with the waitress: She took 6 orders without writing anything down and had all the orders correct. We did leave a big tip for her however; the hostess was short & almost rude when he looked in our faces, as we didn't belong inside. I will not be going back again. Respectfully SJ

David Ethridge: Offering a wide array of southern delicacies, this place packs in the flavor … and the people. Brunch goes until 3 on the weekends and the wait can be up to an hour. We got there just before brunch service ended and there was still a 20 minute wait. Well worth it though…even without the brunch menu available there was still plenty of mouth watering dishes to choose from. We each ordered a chicken breast, Toby got the waffle with his. The chicken was delicious, everything I want in southern style fried chicken. Crispy on the outside and juicy inside. The waffle was one of the best I’ve ever had. Truly. Crispy yet fluffy, you could eat it without the syrup. For sides we shared the Pimento Mac & Cheese Custard. As the name implies, this is good old-fashioned baked mac & Cheese with an egg and cheddar base. The use of Pimento cheese really made it scrumptious. Our other side was Cheese Grits Fries: they take congealed cheesy grits, slice it up then roll it in cornmeal and deep fry them. So amazing. Served with malt aioli and chow-chow

Our drinks were well worth the price (a lot of places are overpriced for cocktails) and our service was fast and friendly. 10/10. We went over two years ago and it was awful food but with the new renovations and menu updates (and probably new chef/kitchen) we decided to give it another try and they definitely changed for the better and then some.

The cheese board was paired with excellent accompaniements and all desserts and breads made in-house. We took a family member for their birthday, and they thoroughly enjoyed the experience in this wonderful historic house in the heart of Raleigh.Platos vegetarianos: They were very accommodating. They will make the meals without meat if you request it.
