UNCW’s Watson College introduced a doctoral program in Educational Leadership in 2007. Now, more than 150 Ed.D. alumni are making an impact in leadership roles across the state and the nation. Caitlin Ryan, associate professor of language and literacy at the Watson College, has received the 2023 Outstanding Elementary Educator in the English Language Arts Award from the National Council of Teachers of English. She was recognized alongside her long-time collaborator, Dr. Jill Hermann-Wilmarth, professor of social foundations at Western Michigan University. The award was announced in March and will be officially presented at the NCTE National Convention in November. Read more >

Jeff Ertzberger, a faculty member and director of technology in the Watson College of Education, is the recipient of the 2022 Robert E. Tyndall Service Award. The ranking for best online degrees in Educational Technology is based on factors including affordability, student/faculty ratio and the accessibility of student and career support services.
