Cary School of Music: what do users think?
Rob F: I recently finished a semester of taking voice lessons at this school. I had a great experience with one of their teachers, and I'd like to address an earlier review from Lily:"...but when my work schedule became more intense and I couldn't make my lessons, Cary School of Music charged me anyway. They will not refund the money and will continue taking drafts out of my account until the end of the semester. That means over $500 in charges for no lessons at all. This school is not understanding that things come up in life..."I completely disagree with this review! Note that the school's policy of requiring students to commit to their set time schedule of lessons *in advance* was communicated clearly up front. You do not have to sign their agreement and provide bank details if you don't like that policy and can't see yourself committing to it steadfastly. This is a fair policy that respects the teacher's time commitment. Teachers are not automatons, like vending machines dispensing a product. They are human beings with a skillset that is in demand by many in the community. They commit to the same exact schedule that the student commits to - in advance. If the student can't make their slot(s), the teacher would not be paid if the student expected a refund for their missed lesson. That is simply not fair and, furthermore, the teacher *could* have had a different, more reliable student agree to that same time slot up front, which would have guaranteed that teacher the set income that they have an expectation to rely upon, as any skilled professional would for their valuable time. Furthermore, the school itself has upkeep/admin costs and have a right to expect that the slots of time for the use of their building and resources are paid for by all students, whether they can attend at the times they agreed to or not. When a student can't attend, that revenue would be lost unexpectedly if there were an expectation of a refund - and again, that revenue *could* have been guaranteed had a more reliable student committed to those same slots of time.I highly recommend this music school and I completely endorse their payment policy, mainly for the sake of the teachers who are their most valuable resource.
Joel Williams: Cary School of Music has the best qualified teachers of any music school in the Triangle Area....the atmosphere is great for both CSM students and their family... young children advance rapidly in their skills due to the outstanding teachers at CSM...truly a five-star music school on any scale
Amy Brantley: Cary School of Music is wonderful! My children have been taking lessons at CSM for years and have had wonderful experiences with their teachers and staff. Over the years, they’ve taken piano, flute and violin lessons. Their teachers have all been highly skilled, well-trained at leading music institutions, and share a passion for teaching and music. The staff is friendly, flexible and accommodating. I highly recommend CSM.
Brittany Jones: I have nothing but positive things to say about this school! The people that work there are equally passionate about music and children. I have seen members of this school, teachers and students alike, come together to use their talents to contribute to the local community through volunteer performances for local festivals, as well as at nursing homes. They put together choirs, string ensembles, bands and more. They really care about their community home.My daughter is in her 3rd semester of piano lessons with her teacher, Colin M. She is 5 years old and can not read words yet, but she can already read music thanks to her lessons. And the biggest testimony to her music studies is that it is the highlight of her week. She adores her teacher and just lights up every Friday when lesson time comes around. If you’re looking for a positive music experience for your children, look no further!
Catherine Keefer: CSM is the best! I took flute, piano and voice there as a high school student. They have the most friendly staff, and I loved all of my teachers. I also really enjoyed performing in their recital hall. Highly recommended for all ages!!!
Annika Christensen: I have been going to this school for a very long time, and I have gone from someone who couldn't do anything but sing and randomly play an out of tune guitar with no idea what I was doing to singing and playing Green Day as well as Dodie (she is literally impossible on the ukulele, so that is a crazy thing to say) Chris Boerner is my guitar teacher, he plays in multiple bands and for artists. He is the best guitarist I have ever personally seen, even better than those at concerts. Michael (for some reason I'm blanking his last name right now) is my voice teacher. I have so much fun in his class and my singing has improved SO MUCH! I completely recommend this school!
Tania Prezas: Good school. We have a really wonderful teacher, very knowledgeable and flexible. They organize recitals, a music festival.
Denise P: Speaking from painful experience, regarding specifically strings lessons, do yourself a favor and keep looking elsewhere!! This is not the place for you, if you want your child to develop in any meaningful/timely way, I couldn't believe the difference we noticed for our daughter till she switched to another place. The amount of advancement she made in the brief time she has been with the new teacher compared to this place/teacher is day and night. I feel like we got cheated on the precious time to develop with our daughter (while young). When you have another teacher to compare to, is when you realize the string teacher a this place was literally wasting 5-15 minutes of your child's class time every single time with superfluous things (like filling out his notebook etc). The amount of solid, quality teaching we are getting now as opposed to the lackluster, at a snail pace she got from this place is remarkable COMPARE COMPARE COMPARE is all i can say, don't waste your child's valuable years at this place!
Lily Brannigan: I am part of a family that has to work more than one job to do the things I want in life. One of the things I wanted was to take piano lessons, but when my work schedule became more intense and I couldn't make my lessons, Cary School of Music charged me anyway. They will not refund the money and will continue taking drafts out of my account until the end of the semester. That means over $500 in charges for no lessons at all. This school is not understanding that things come up in life. They operate in black and white and cannot see that life has more gray areas than not. I do not recommend this school unless you simply have money to burn.
Jennifer Fruend: Great school! I wish we had known about it sooner. My daughter has learned so much in only a few weeks.
Cary Desi: Pros: Very convenient location in Cary Downtown. They have a lot of teachers and options for our child to attend at different times.Cons: They will ask you to draft monthly payments from your checking account and SOMETIMES DOUBLE CHARGE your account. Please watch your account carefully if you enroll your child here. When we noticed the double charge and contacted them, they promptly refunded the amount. What if we had not noticed?

School of Rock: what do users think?
rtutone: My instructor Colin is an excellent instructor. He is full of talent and has an excellent way of communicating and making a difference during the session. And SOR is easy to work with. I highly recommend SOR to all my friends.
Nathan Sal: I like the instructor, the setup of the instruction, the layout of the office, the pricing is reasonable, the way kids are motivated to learn is great, the songs they learn are ideal (for me). I am very happy with this company!
Sherie Bender: My daughter loves guitar because of School of Rock. She loves her teacher and the whole vibe at School of Rock! A+++++++++++++
Valerie Walo: Wonderful instruction and guidance from teachers. A warm environment that helps our daughter feel right at home.
Pari Sahni: Kevan and the whole team of School of Rock is tye BEST 👌
Bill Ferriter: My daughter started taking bass lessons from School of Rock about a month ago. We like a few things about the program. First, her instructor is someone that she looks up to and identifies with. He gives her the sense that what she is interested in is "cool" --- and that has real value to us. Second, we love how open and flexible the school's owner is. He is easy to reach, responsive to our questions, and willing to work with us when our schedule makes it difficult to attend a lesson. We are looking forward to growing with the program as our daughter learns more.
Angela Weaver: Awesome place for kids to learn with great people!
Michelle Jenkins: Great teachers, flexible schedules. Quick response to questions.
Lila Leff: Great place with flexible scheduling, wonderful teachers and an all around positive environment. We've done lessons, rock performance and camp and all are truly excellent.
Bugs Subu: We love our School of Rock, Cary NC... Kevan Hester is an extremely amicable and professional owner. Our instructor Sergio is so wonderful with our daughter! Best decision I ever made for our child. It's best in class in the market. In just a few short months our child has progressed wonderfully and best of all practices and looks forward to class!
Alex Z.: They rock!
Leila Ghannad: Awesome school, my son loves going and all folks feel welcome. Highly recommend it!
Russell Nash: Kevan is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. Frank is a super nice guy, a great drummer and an even better teacher for my 8 year old son. I've had nothing but positive experiences here and I have seen my son grow as a drummer in only 6 months of lessons already. I can't recommend this place enough for kids learning a new instrument.
Louis F: I was looking for weekly individual lessons and band practices. I was also interested in performing in public. Happily, this is precisely what the School of Rock offers. At my first lesson I was paired with an instructor who shared my taste in music. So, I felt like I was off to a very good start. I'm looking forward to my second lesson and beyond!!
Kelly D: My daughter absolutely loves School of Rock in Cary. They have helped mold her love of music, and given her more confidence with playing bass guitar. The owner/manager, Kevan, has always been very pleasant to work with. I truly believe Kevan and my daughter's instructor have a real passion for music and teaching. I plan on sending her there for as long as she enjoys it - based on what I am seeing, that will be the remainder of her highschool years. I waited for this time to arrive - She has finally found her gift and passion. I'm so happy for her. If you are considering them, I say give it a try.
Jb Smith: We've had a great experience with the Cary School of Rock. We are back for our second season and look forward to a great fall. My son is doing vocal training, performance, and is also just starting with guitar and very much enjoys it all. The coaching is strong and they have high standards for the kids. They keep the groups small so every performer gets a lot of attention. They also put on a great show - equipment, production being top notch. Highly recommend.
Tami Radzai: Love the instructors and the confidence performing is instilling in my 9yo. Kevan is super responsive and great to work with. Overall, extremely happy with SoR Cary.
Sam DeAngelo: A giant thank you to Kevan, Manguss, James, and Frank for allowing my two sons the opportunity to keep rocking, especially during the pandemic!
Casey Hale: My son has loved loved loved school of rock. He had been taking individual lessons elsewhere at first and he enjoyed it but when he started with school of rock it added a whole new dimension to what he could do with the guitar. We've loved SoR in Cary, the guys are great, have always been so flexible when our schedule fluctuates and it is the highlight of my son's week to get to rock it out with them.
T Wick: The multi pronged approach of instructor guidance, book exercises, and an app which both guides and gives solid feedback on how well each exercise is performed provides support during the week between lessons that traditional instruction lacks.
steffan knaak: Awesome staff and great learning process. Highly recommend for any age or skill level. Very fun and relaxed structure. They find your skill level and work around it so it doesn't feel remedial.

Village Music School: what do users think?
RamPrasath Rajasekaran: Excellent school for learning all forms of music. Professional teachers and friendly admin staff.
Dipti: Love Simon studio 9.
Rick Klevans: Excellent teachers and staff.
Venkat Raghavan S: Nice and courteous teachers. Been with them for over 3 years, but finally got frustrated with the admin/front desk personnel. Indifferent policies that are not student friendly. Good luck with trying to reschedule. Also, Expensive considering other similar local options. Better off working with individual teachers - cheaper, more accommodative and don’t need to deal with a discourteous and unfriendly staff.
Bob Shutts: Friendly, responsive staff. Cozy atmosphere for music lessons.
Santha Kumar: Center's policies are not flexible. Quality of teaching obviously differs by the teachers we choose. Recitals are done in smaller groups.

Cary School of Creative Arts: what do users think?
Hannah Tollison: It was good. An artists' space for sure. Pictures, pianos galore, along with some other things. Small, cozy feel to it. My son was really interested in the drums, but didn't like the ones there. They are electronic hah. My daughter was interested in the pianos. Nice guy who helped/"taught." He taught a scale to them and rehearsed it vocally several times. It was a free trial class so we didn't really do a whole lot. It was a little hard for my kids to figure out what they like. There wasn't much organization or planning ahead of time. But, I think we can make it work on what to pursue with them in the future.
Deepika Ramakrishnan: Love CSCA! Both my daughters have been taking piano here for a while, the teachers are very nice and engage the kids. Their summer camps are also really fun. Highly recommend CSCA for music and art lessons!
Chris Somewhat: We have been attending the Saturday morning Anime Drawing at CSCA for over 4 years. Mr Eddie has been teaching my daughter how to draw anime style and any other type of technique she inquires about. Mr. Eddie works with each student to develop their skills at their own pace by letting students choose their own pieces that inspire them (as another parent mentioned). Mr. Eddie is an outstanding teacher and great with children of all ages. It has been a great place to meet other like-minder friends who have developed a friendship outside of this class! I highly recommend CSCA. It is a great learning environment with outstanding teachers.
Jennifer Pierce: We have been at CSCA for years. Mr Tom has been an amazing instructor! He works with them on pieces to develop their skills AND he lets them choose pieces that inspire them and are developmentally appropriate. Our home and our holidays have been infused with music our daughter learned from CSCA. Would highly recommend giving CSCA a try. We now have several friends there as well that are so happy.
Mary Collins: Our son has been a student at Cary School of Creative for nearly 7 years. He has had not only excellent instruction in music and art, but has also had the opportunity to enjoy Rock Band Camps that led to performing Rock bands, now in his second one mentored by professional musician/instructors. Tom Hutchison, the school founder and owner, is a father of 3. He understands that schedules are tight and time and money need to be spent wisely. He teaches keyboard/piano, and also artfully students to the ideal instructors. Because there is such a range of instruments and teachers, from very classically trained to currently performing rock musicians the youth and adult students can get just what they need and want. As students grow there is opportunity to learn more including opportunities to write music, record, and perform. Recitals are truly entertaining for all parents and students. Our son has been able to assist at the school the past school year and this summer, he loves the school and so do we!

Notasium: Cary Music Lessons and Play Space: what do users think?
Jessica Pesterfield: My 2-year-old son adores this place! We've been coming since he started walking well independently. I love that the layout is open, and it's easy to see him now that he runs around. He just climbed the big slide for the 1st time last week! He is still talking about it.
Jennifer Manchester: Visited for the first time today with my almost one year old granddaughter, based on an article that I read which mentioned fun for 1- and 2-year olds, and info on the Notasium web site that said non-walkers are $5 and specified that $10 was for ages 1+. I will say that the facility was VERY clean, and their set up is indeed great for parents that can keep an eye on the kids while utilizing the seating around the play area. However, even though I shared that my granddaughter was only able to take a few steps independently and still preferring crawling, and was only 11 months old, they charged me full price.(*Quick update that management noticed my review mentioning the full price charge, and refunded me to reflect the correct $5 price, so customer service seems to be good.)We arrived around 11:30, and were the only patrons there, so it was nice that I didn't have to worry about her being overwhelmed by larger kids. However, there was not much for a toddler this size to do. There is a small slide, but the back side of it is like a climbing wall, not stairs, there was a little soft xylophone "stool" to pat, and some large soft drums, which were neat because when you tapped them they played more drum sounds. Other than that, the only thing she could do is touch the music around the world wall, and beat the pots and pans in the little house. This might be a fun spot for kids starting around 2 1/2 or 3, especially on bad weather days, even if only for the indoor bouncers. But for now we'll be sticking with another play space like Little Doodles (which, consequently, didn't even charge me for my grandbaby since she's so small.)
Hanna: My 2 year old loves this play place! When we visited we had the place to ourselves! It was so fun we will be back! Couldn’t believe no one else was there! My only complaint was a couple of corners seemed dark, my 2 year old thought it was scary! The bounce house when you walk in is very dimly lit and they didn’t want to go in. The other bounce house has more lighting, but it has flashing party lights, at first I thought I was a burning out bulb flashing and it seemed creepy too! Lol
Tim Trimble: My kids liked this place. The bouncy houses were really fun, even for an older person like me. My daughter was scared of the guitar slide, but she will get it one day.
Aspyn Andrea Maher: We love notasium we are there a lot. The new man that works there is not a good fit. He is constantly on his phone texting watching videos & not helping! Not kid friendly either. Bring the girl back!!
Amie Titus: Not a fan of this place. (I think its because my little girl is just too little) I didnt like the worker; I felt she had a little attitude, and I wouldn't say I liked how I watched a little girl push a few kids, and they didnt kick her out. Suitable for older kids, that guitar slide looks fantastic!
laura: My kids love this place! Music themed play space with bouncy houses, what's not to love!
Crystal Daves: I took my 3 and 6 year old here last Saturday to meet a friend for open-play. It was our first time ever even hearing of this place- what a gem! It has the perfect lay-out for kids to wander around to each area and play while the parents watch from the seating surrounding the whole area. KUDOS!! My daughter has been showing interest in learning piano or guitar and this place just sealed the deal by making it seem "cool" :)
Alexandra Ormond: We had two birthday parties at Notasium. It was hassle free and the staff were amazing.
Jen Matthews: My kids love this place so much! I usually have to drag them out of there when it's time to go. We just had my daughter's birthday there and Jenna and all other staff were amazing. They made everything so easy and the kids had a blast. My daughter has attended a couple music lessons in the past and we plan to sign her up for some more.
Maria Maxell: We had my daughter's birthday party here. The staff all went way above and beyond to serve the needs of all our guests (several of whom have disabilities). It was so well laid out and the party was so much fun, we will definitely be recommending it to all our friends!
Sarah Geary: This was such a cute space pre-covid. Sadly even in March 2022, they're still requiring children (**toddlers**, no less - 3 and up) to cover their faces. Thankfully they updated most open play to be mask optional, but Mon/Wed are still mask required, and the big sticking point for me is that they still require masks for all private and group classes. If you have any idea how masks hold potential to work, you should stop fighting battles to have children cover their faces. The CDC has, WCPSS has. We won't be supporting businesses that continue to restrict children when the rest of the world has gone back to normal life.
Mithat Kara: Nice place for kids to learn music skills.
Dan Wilson: My son absolutely loves his piano lessons here. It's also fun to play inside, even if you're not taking lessons.
Kimberly: We just had my daughter's birthday party here & it was fantastic. We had various age groups of boys & girls, they all loved it. They were so helpful, had great communication, & it really made having a child's birthday easy. The music session portion of the party was so entertaining for the 5 year olds to the 12 year olds. I highly recommend having your child's party here or just visiting for their open play. The staff is simply amazing!!!
Chris Leming: Great place for birthday parties. Lots of fun music-related play structures and equipment to help kids experience the joy of music in a new and unique way. The guitar slide seems to be a favorite. Notasium is also great for music lessons. Our kindergartener started virtual piano lessons through Notasium, and has since moved to in-person group piano lessons. The teachers are great at introducing the fundamentals in a fun and engaging way. My kid’s favorite part is learning to play nursery rhymes in minor keys. I highly recommend Notasium for lessons and for parties.
A. Jean Jones: Great 'quaranteam' experience!
Mary Osborne: Our family absolutely loves Notasium. Our first experience was years ago at their Durham location. I was so thrilled when they announced that they were opening a branch in Cary. The play space is huge, clean, and fun. They have bounce houses, a giant guitar slide, and a lot of other music related activities. They have karaoke and a percussion room where kids can bang on pots and pans and make a lot of noise. The employees are super friendly and inviting (I'm looking at you, Jenna!), and really make you feel at home. They do a great job of keeping rowdy kids in check and enforcing rules, but not in an overbearing, critical way.My eldest (age 11) has been taking piano, voice, and violin from Robin for a while now and absolutely loves it. Robin is patient and isn't too chastising when my daughter doesn't practice as she should. We've seen great progress, and my daughter looks forward to her lessons. She's participated in two recitals and looks forward to performing. My second eldest (age 7) decided he wanted to play trumpet. He's been working with Aaron for a few months now and is always super excited and motivated to attend his lessons. I love that all of the instructors are laid back and meet the kids where they are. They teach at an appropriate level and are super encouraging.Notasium is cool because there are discounts for siblings and play, so when our big kids are taking lessons, our little kids can play in the play space. Our whole family enjoys music lesson nights! Now, in the days of isolation and quarantines, they've started conducting their lessons online, and that works incredibly well. The lessons are well thought out and go off without a hitch every week. The lessons are definitely a welcome break in some of the monotony. We've done birthday parties at Notasium as well, and like everything else, they're wonderful. We can't wait until the world is back to normal so we can get back to playing at Notasium, and until then, we'll enjoy our virtual time with their fantastic instructors!
Juhi Fernandes: We've been doing music lessons with Notasium for a year and love it!
Maria de Fatima de Souza Nagliati: We did the 7th Birthday of our oldest daughter on Notasium Cary and she had a blast with her friends! They love the play area and the music time was a big surprise! Notasium staff organized also all the birthday time even for 40 kids and made it good memorie! Thank you so much! ♡
Chantel Blake: My kids love going here

Burton School of Arts: what do users think?
F Nam: This is a great music studio. Ian, the owner, is super friendly and really cares about who he hires as instructors. Our daughter is taking violin lessons and her teachers have been tops; good focus on learning how to read, play, and hear music. For individualized, one on one instruction, in a friendly atmosphere, at a great price, this place can not be beat!
Ian Walniuk: Overall, I'd have to say that I enjoy taking lessons at this school with Ian Burton. I have been taking lessons with him for approximately twenty months now -- 7-8 months or so on drums, back in 2015 when I was much less inclined to put effort into actually practicing music; also, I think I was naturally mediocre at drums -- and 12-13 playing the piano.POSITIVES: In general, the instructor is very patient and compassionate and never acts in a superior, domineering, or haughty manner; he doesn't chastise you for making errors and is, as a matter of fact, very open to you making mistakes while playing a song. He is open to suggestions and is willing to work with a student on just about anything relating to their playing of music. His teaching is also quite good; he's quick to point out errors and does a good job of explaining how to remedy them.NEGATIVES: Sometimes, the instructor can be a bit of a perfectionist, as in he feels as if some songs (particularly basic songs) need to be nearly perfect; although when teaching students more complex pieces (such as pieces that I'm working on at the moment), I'd argue that this is a necessary trait for an instructor to have.Overall Rating: 9.2/10 (4.6/5) (I don't know why I was so specific, lol)
Nancy Sheffield: My son has been taking bass lessons with Ian for a couple of years now. It has been a great experience and we were lucky to find this place. Ian teaches in a way that is unique and relatable. We tried other places that just did not work for my son and he almost didn't want to try again. So glad we did!
Ashwin Sivayogan: I take classes at Burton school of arts for drums. Ive been taking it there for a little over an year and it's one of the best class ive taken. The teachers are very nice and caring and help you if you.
Jonathan Richardson: I have been taking lessons with Ian Burton for 18 months. I find he and his staff to be highly organized and knowledgeable. I enthusiastically recommend Ian and his staff for all of your musical needs.
Tamie Nash: We have been with Sally @ Burton for many years. She is an excellent teacher with a very positive attitude. Highly recommended!!
Drew Mcdonald: My daughter has been taking flute lessons with Sally for over a year now as a means of growing her skills in the instrument. The individual lessons have provided her the opportunity to focus on learning the flute faster than would be possible in her band class. Sally is an experienced teacher, who clearly has played flute herself for some time. My daughter enjoys working with Sally who has introduced her to lesson books that she would not otherwise have known about at this stage. The school has always acted in a professional manner with regard to scheduling adjustments. I can recommend the school and Sally for lessons for flute and other wind instruments.
Cindy Mansfield: My daughter has been taking drum lessons with Ian for a few months now. He is always incredibly patient, kind, and a lot of fun. She is enjoying learning and has made such good progress in a short period of time. When she is in her lesson I hear lots of laughing in addition to lots of learning. There is no way I would ever take her anywhere else. She is at the very best music school and with the very best instructor. We feel very fortunate to have found such a wonderful school/instructor.
BN Olive (Olive86): I take private salsa lessons at the Cary location with Ian. The class is always a ton of fun and Ian is a great instructor. He is very patient and breaks the moves down for easy understanding. Also the man can dance! Fun, fun! I highly recommend this school
