Music programs at School of Rock Cary combine one-on-one lessons with group band practices


The School of Rock in Cary, North Carolina is proud to serve the local community with music lessons taught by real, practicing musicians. Located in the cradle of gospel music, this school teaches guitar lessons, bass guitar lessons, drum lessons, piano lessons, and singing lessons (although drums and keys are most popular at this location). With lessons from our expert instructors, students learn to play their instruments using the music from local legends Thelonius Monk, John Coltrane, George Clinton, and many more. As part of the curriculum, students regularly take the stage to perform live at great local venues like The Pour House (the longest-running live music venue in Raleigh) and Motorco.


Rock 101 is one of School of Rock Cary's top programs for kids and beginners. Students have one weekly group rehearsal where they learn to play classic rock songs that have been simplified for beginner musicians. At School of Rock Cary, we teach beginner guitar lessons for adults in our Adult Program. This program gets students performing onstage at a local Cary venue.


As students gain skills and experience, we move them along to more challenging programs at higher skill levels. Intermediate and advanced students take the skills they learned in beginner guitar lessons, and layer on more difficult techniques and concepts. School of Rock Cary offers advanced guitar lessons for kids and adults that teach by playing challenging classic rock songs and emphasize playing the guitar in a real music venue. Do you provide my instrument or do I have to buy one?

You must have your own instrument before your music lessons in Raleigh can begin. For voice instruction, this includes having a 44-key keyboard. If you need help purchasing an instrument, please let us know - we can help.

You can request a teacher if you’d like, but we can’t guarantee that you will work with your requested instructor. Placing a student with an instructor involves matching a student’s instrument, address, and availability with the teacher's instrumentation, location, and availability. Like a puzzle - all of the pieces have to fit.

How many times can I reschedule lessons, and can I skip a lesson?

As long as you give your instructor 24 hours notice, you can reschedule your music lessons in Raleigh as often as necessary. All student-canceled lessons are made up on our virtual platform. Regarding skipping lessons, being part of our subscription-based service means that you have reserved personalized time on your instructor's schedule. We purposefully offer a very generous rescheduling and makeup policy to give you and your instructor every opportunity to get the most from your lessons. For this reason, we do not allow for skipped sessions.
