Guitar Repair by "The Fretking" Mark A. Kane, Luthier: what do users think?
Rob Fekete: I own 15 guitars and I have taken five of them to Mark for set up, re-fret, and builds and I cannot say enough! In fact, he is now the only luthier I will bring my guitars to in the Raleigh area. He’s personable, exceptionally knowledgeable, military friendly, and an all around stand up guy. I cannot recommend him enough!
Mike Krause Music: Mark’s one of the most highly skilled luthiers I've had the pleasure to know. Am thankful to have someone of his exclusive caliber keeping my guitars on point/where they should be.
Ronald Doria: Extremely knowledgeable and straight forward.
Andrew Taylor: The best and it's family.
Scott H.: Mark is by far the most competent, knowledgeable and professional luthier I’ve ever met…he has many years of experience in the industry as well as advanced training with the best of the best guitar manufacturers…namely Martin, among others, and I’ve seen him take acoustics i had largely gave up on playing and make them a whole new guitar again… I’ve entrusted him with many of my guitars and the work he does always exceeds expectations…highly, highly recommend!!!
Alex Brissette: Just got the frets and nut on my Strat replaced after 20 years, and I think it sounds and plays better than when I first got it. Mark's a really nice guy too, and super knowledgeable.
Matt Davis: I hate to give 5 stars here, only because there aren’t six. Mark is an outstanding luthier and a on top of that is just a fantastic person! You won’t be sad you chose Mark for all your guitar work needs.
Stephen Gillespie: Mark's worked on several of my guitars, and has been great to work with each time. Knowledgable and honest. The work he's done has been worth worth the time and cost every time.
Nacy McConnell: A true craftsman, Mark is both knowledgeable and patient with his customers. I highly recommend him for guitar set-up and repair.
Sanjay Patel: Top quality work
Simon Spire: Exceptional expertise, care, communication, and results. My limited edition Taylor has been fully restored to pristine playability after 19 years of wear and tear, and I feel more informed than ever about the intricacies of my guitar. Thank you, Mark!
Joshua Woods: I brought Mark my 1950 Gibson L-50 that I was gifted a few years back. The guitar is in great shape for its age, but it was in need of some love to get it sounding really great again and Mark has definitely gotten it back into tip-top shape. The initial evaluation was very informative and Mark did a great job explaining what he saw as needing work and what he planned to do fix those issues. I left feeling very comfortable with the work he planned to do because he had given such great detail about what would be involved and how each change would improve the playability/sound. He also maintained period correctness with everything he could, which I very much appreciate. I picked the guitar up today and am delighted to report that everything had been addressed and the guitar now plays as great as it looks. The work was definitely done with care and experience. I'm blown away by how much brighter it sounds now and how much the playability improved with the work to the nut and frets. I highly recommend Mark, especially for higher-end/vintage instruments that deserve a true luthier.
Brian Spehar: I decided to let the excitement wear off a little before posting a review, but I'll be honest, the excitement might never wear off.I took 3 guitars to Fretking. One in particular is my first "real" guitar I purchased in 1998. It was originally sent to a large music store to be Pleked and setup. When I got it back, I had horrible fret buzz which was not anticipated. I then took this guitar to Mark. After I got it back, it was absolutely the best this guitar has ever played. No horrible buzz, action set perfectly across the entire board, and just an absolute blast to play. The other 2 guitars I took in he custom made a bone nut (the originals were plastic) and leveled and recrowned some of the frets. These guitars are also just fantastic to play now. I don't feel like I'm fighting with my instruments. If you want an experienced luthier that will take care of your instruments like they are his own, listens to his customers, and is extremely transparent, look no further than Fretking. Mark understands that your guitars are a very personal item, and he ensures that your experience will be the best it can possibly be with your instrument. It's an hour and a half drive for me to get there, and I'd honestly not let anyone else touch my instruments at this point.
Colin Fleisher: Exceptional repository of guitar knowledge; showed me the exact angles at which my bridge and neck were set, and explained to me the history of Martin necks which opened a whole new way of looking at setup for me.Will be bringing all of my guitars here for setup and repair. If you are wondering if Mark is the real deal, ask around or schedule an appointment! You won't be disappointed.
Russell: Mark set up a vintage 335 and a 50th Anniversary Stratocaster for me. He did a great job! Both guitars are better than ever! So friendly and informative. Total professional. I highly recommend him.
Judson Hair: Mark has worked on my acoustics for over 10 years and he has always done a super thorough and professional job. He’s done two neck re-sets, made bone nuts and saddle, installed pick-ups. As a certified Martin Tech, he went to bat for me when my new Martin D-18 needed a neck reset and Martin agreed to let a Mark do the work under warranty with absolutely no cost to me! I’ve yet to have anything but an excellent experience with Mark Kane.
Benjamin Huffman: The FretKing is incredibly knowledgeable and very willing to answer questions and assist with your guitar repair needs. Would definitely recommend! — 10/10 experience
Sami Mardam-Bey: Great work. Neck reset, partial refret and new nut. My Taylor again plays like butter and feels like a new guitar.
Zach Demkovich: Awesome experience. Took a 1960 reissue Fender custom shop Strat to Mark for a refret, new nut, setup and various other repairs. This guitar was in rough shape when I got it and I wasted a lot of hours trying to make it sound good before taking it to Mark. His approach to guitar work is scientific and practical - even factoring in my playing style to the adjustments he did. He diagnosed and explained the issues to me, made the recommendations, which I agreed to, and then proceeded with the fixes. Now the guitar is perfect. Communication was excellent and the whole process was easy. Price was very reasonable. Will be taking my guitars to him from now on.
Jeff Cope: Mark treated my guitar like it was his own. I knew he was a good luthier but did not fully appreciate how good until I took my guitar to someone else.
Michael Stierhoff: Mark is a brilliant guitar repairer. I've known him for over 20 years and would trust him to work on any guitar.

Music Go Round Cary: what do users think?
brian blochl: This is a go to place to shed some of your used music gear or instruments. They will promptly test and check out your gear and give you an offer to buy it. The used gear at this store is usually good ,especially if you go to the store. Unlike privately sold used gear, they can let you test and check out the used gear in the store to make sure it sounds great. Staff are very helpful
alison saine: Incredibly helpful staff who allowed us to try instruments and coached us what to buy for our intermediate student. Prices matched other used equipment stores. Good experience.
Joey O: Love the business model. Staff is not the most friendly but not a bad place for a decent deal
Lynn Lohmeyer: Helping my brother move, I took a few items here with no idea what would happen. The guys were friendly and helpful. It took about 20 minutes for them to evaluate everything and offered me more than I expected for them.Very positive experience.
Alyson Visgauss: Really wish you wouldn't waste peoples' time and gas money telling them you have something you do not after they confirm the product time multiple times with you, prior to deiving from Durham to get it. Not appreciated.
Gordon Gross: nice guys
Dr. G Plastina (Doc G): My son and I dropped by this place. It’s highly recommended by our musician friend who is a drummer. I started liking this place. There’s a lot of new and slightly used stuff for music lovers, especially for songwriter and musician like me there. They even have a trade-in for any music instruments you want to let go. It’s my favorite place in that park. Definitely be coming back to see and buy more.
Ravi Velamuri: I wish I could write zero stars. I would strongly recommend nobody to buy here. I bought an Electric guitar couple of weeks ago. When I visited them for checking the same guitar because it was not sounding right, they asked me to pay for $65 to set up the guitar. Which doesn’t make any sense. Their return policy/service is really poor. Please don’t buy here unless you’re sure about what you’re getting from them.Music go round cary: please don’t bother about serving better to me in future! I won’t be walking in again
Kim Ebel: My electric bass stopped working all of a sudden. Took it into here and the tech was able to diagnose and fix the problem super quick (~20min)! Very friendly and helpful!!
Scuba Steve Bowes: Another rip off Chain Screwing people That come in to sell Equipment... They Lie and tell you that they can't price items at this amount and you look as soon as your Equipment is posted and they price it higher than they said ... Liars . BUT it is the same anywhere in business anymore. BEWARE IF YOU ARE SELLING.
Parker Moseley: Have bought two almost brand new, top of the line guitars here. Returned others for decent price(bout half of actual value). Staff is alright. Honestly, one kid there is extremely friendly to me and redeems the rest of the staff.
Rodney Nash: Very great place. Fair trades and great prices.
LinuxJunki: Great gear for an even better price, trading is the most fun here
Jack Werner: I'm a huge fan of Music Go Round Cary. I've stopped by multiple times, usually just to 'browse' but I end up leaving with a couple new pedals. They have the best prices in the area for gently used gear and a handful of great, knowledgable guys behind the counter who make sure you're satisfied with what you purchase. I also love to support this local business rather than the giant GuitarCenter down Highway 55. Music Go Round has a sizable collection of electric, acoustic, and classical guitars, as well as all kinds of guitar gear, mixing gear, monitors, drums, amps, you name it. Definitely stop by if you're looking for something new! And thanks Matt for all the help last time!
Lambodar Ray: Great place for shopping Musical instruments. Used items but is good condition and price. Music is always alive so as instruments
Justin Langley: Friendly and helpful staff, amazing and competitive prices, and a great selection. There's a good mix of new and used gear here and you can find some really unique stuff here from time to time.
pratik shah: I bought a used acoustic electric guitar from the store.I bought that in a hurry.I went home and played it for hours.I really liked the tone but I found out an issue (fret buzz) then I changed the new strings hoping it to get fixed.Guess what it did not.I went to the store and asked for refund. The manager was very professional with good attitude. He refunded without any problem.I dont write reviews that much but I liked the customer service. So I thought why not share my experience.
Dan Feola: They dont give much for trade, but their resale prices trend average not overpriced. They purchase everyday which is helpful, decent selection.
Miguel Jackson: Good people. Good place. Love the used equipment!
Ly Vuong: I sold two amps here and they gave me a fair price for both, so I am happy! Actually, bittersweet that I have to say goodbye to my beloved amps, but ... with the money I got, I can get myself a used guitar. :)
Guy Fieri: Tons of pre-owned unique guitars and basses in there. Amps include a Hughes and Kettner too! Awesome store and I met a cool British dude customer who was dropping tons of knowledge on the pharmacudical marketing industry, so a win win

Leechford Music: what do users think?
Becky Moore: I've been going to Leechford Music for 5 years. They have amazing teachers for all kinds of instruments along with a small music store that sells everything. The Leechfords are wonderful people and I'd highly recommend their small business to anyone!
Teresa Hong: Awesome little place. I bought a used sax and my friend rented a clarinet, we are both really happy about them. The store is next to the rooms where they have lessons, so you can hear and see those people playing music. The lady helped us today was really kind and the store dog (Stella) is super cute. Will definitely visit again if we need anything.

Isaiah was able to get all the work I had specified done, and with extremely quick turnaround and constant communication.Work I had done included plugging screw holes, shielding the body and some custom modifications to the pickguard - all of which Isaiah was able to complete perfectly.Pricing was beyond fair and Isaiah was accommodating and as friendly as could be.I would not hesitate to bring any guitar here.Thank you for your help!
bowen: Isaiah is an incredibly nice guy and does a phenomenal job on guitars. I brought him my Fender Strat and Ibanez 7-string to fix some fret buzz and set up with a different gauge of strings. Fantastic work on these guitars and I will certainly be going to him for any other luthier work. Cannot reccommend Isaiah enough!

Scott Morris: I’ve nothing but a good experience with Isaiah at Hueite guitars! I was updated almost daily with progress for the custom install of a Floyd Rose bridge I requested him to do.The fit and finish was pretty damn good and I have no issues with the functions of the bridge.I will definitely be returning for other work.

Triangle Strings: what do users think?
Kaily Schenker: I just picked up my cello after getting it worked on at Triangle Strings and I couldn't be happier. They were extremely affordable, and did excellent work. I also had to leave it for a bit longer than I would have liked because of other commitments, and the pick up process was totally painless. Really great communication too. Thanks again!
Bryan Rawls: Triangle Strings is THE place to have work done on stringed instruments. Jerry and the crew are knowledgeable professionals, capable of handling repairs, major and minor, as well as touch ups. It is the only place I take my fine instrument (an 1888 Colin Mezin) and also where I recommend students go for violin rentals. No matter your string instrument needs, Triangle Strings can get the job done
Lillie: These people know what they are doing when repairing instruments. We took an instrument made around the 1940's that had several ailments, and we were delighted to pick it up today in a much better condition. But that was not the best part. We asked if they would play it before we left, and we were beaming like grand parents over a new born baby. We would not hesitate to take any stringed instrument for repairs.
D DeMarco: Had my German bow rehaired twice here now, excellent and reliable service. The wait time for an appointment date was about a week give or take, but it was worth it for me. Gave it fresh new hair and cleaned all the rosin build up. Plays very nicely, will definitely be getting my bow rehaired here again next time.
Chris Cheshire: Excellent experience buying my first cello. Being able to try a few different cellos and bows there, then having them on trial at home for a short period was very helpful. All the staff were friendly and helpful throughout the process.
Fay: We love Triangle Strings! My daughter started to learn violin five years ago and we have been renting violin in different sizes from this business. Excellent services! Front desk receptionists are very friendly, courteous, patient, and helpful. Sebastian is our favorite! One time, we spent almost an hour trying different violins and finally selected one. However, after playing for a few weeks at home and the music studio, my daughter did not like the sound and wanted to look for more options. Once again, Sebastian kindly presented three new instruments to her, and upon our request, he helped my daughter pick one that she likes very much. She is still using this instrument and grateful for Sebastian's help!
Leslie Fox: Friendly, helpful employees. They are always helpful for me, being a new violin parent who is just learning how all of this works.
yang hongming (三弦): Very good repair experience. My violin bridge was transported out, and the tone of my own adjustment has not been good. After adjusting the tone by a young violin repair technician, the tone has improved a lot. I am very satisfied. Thank you very much! Very professional!
Em Ni: What a poor experience. I walked in about 20 minutes early for my appointment which was originally set for 1 PM I was told that I had would have to come back at my appointment time. The woman at the front never asked me what I was therefore and then after the fact asked me for my name before she couldn’t find me in the system and I said that was odd because I was told to come in at 1 PM and I already had a rental contract she said it would’ve been her emailing me. After essentially pulling teeth and her barely getting my information she brought someone out from the back and he told me it would be helpful to have an appointment I explained I did have an appointment I was there just a few minutes early yes I did have a rental contract. It’s almost like the woman looked at me and just didn’t wanna help for some odd reason. Very judge you Janet experience instead of actually trying to help us. Perhaps the ongoing service will be better but so far I’m not impressed and I have no idea why my daughters private school recommended this place.
Katie Holbrook: Great customer service!! They did a really great job restoring my great grandfather's violin. Thanks!!
Denise Pickford: Very professional and helpful.
Surya GV: Got strings changed. Was completed very well
Isa delva: Super customer service! I was pleasantly surprised when I was expecting to be there for a long time while the violin was fixed but they did it right away and I was on my way out 10 minutes later. They have very nice and capable personal. Super professionals! I highly recommend this place.
Ray Lloyd: Wonderful service & kind people
K M: WOW!! I am so happy with the quality of service I received from Triangle Strings. I called late this afternoon to make an appointment to set the sound post and strings on my cello, and got the friendliest response. I was told that there was an opening today at 3, it’d only take about 10 minutes, and the service was free (SO AWESOME)!When I got there, the gentleman was super attentive, explained everything well and with genuine care/detail, and went beyond my expectations. He even tuned my strings, walked me through my new tuner/metronome, more! So awesome, so happy, and definitely will be back for all my future cello needs. Thank you so much!
Patricia Lugar: Professional fast service for cello. Will be going here from now on
Joyu Lee: Best bow rehair services- Hands down! Please check out triangle strings for the rental program- the staff is professional, knowledgeable, and the instruments are HIGH quality- your child, your loved ones, or if you have been thinking about playing violin/ cello / viola yourself- this place will give you great guidance.
Witold Niesluchowski: High class establishment
Kayla Bender: Great service and friendly staff. Definitely went above and beyond to help us out.
Dredlin Rodriguez, CPA: I went to Triangle strings looking to have my daughter’s violin checked. Lucy welcomed us and was very nice and helpful. Then me met Sebastian who in a bit was able to identify what was wrong with the violin. He was very professional and knowledgeable. He answered all my questions and was also very nice. I definitely recommend this place!!
L. J.C.: Great service, friendly staff, and wonderful quality instruments!

Cary School of Music: what do users think?
Rob F: I recently finished a semester of taking voice lessons at this school. I had a great experience with one of their teachers, and I'd like to address an earlier review from Lily:"...but when my work schedule became more intense and I couldn't make my lessons, Cary School of Music charged me anyway. They will not refund the money and will continue taking drafts out of my account until the end of the semester. That means over $500 in charges for no lessons at all. This school is not understanding that things come up in life..."I completely disagree with this review! Note that the school's policy of requiring students to commit to their set time schedule of lessons *in advance* was communicated clearly up front. You do not have to sign their agreement and provide bank details if you don't like that policy and can't see yourself committing to it steadfastly. This is a fair policy that respects the teacher's time commitment. Teachers are not automatons, like vending machines dispensing a product. They are human beings with a skillset that is in demand by many in the community. They commit to the same exact schedule that the student commits to - in advance. If the student can't make their slot(s), the teacher would not be paid if the student expected a refund for their missed lesson. That is simply not fair and, furthermore, the teacher *could* have had a different, more reliable student agree to that same time slot up front, which would have guaranteed that teacher the set income that they have an expectation to rely upon, as any skilled professional would for their valuable time. Furthermore, the school itself has upkeep/admin costs and have a right to expect that the slots of time for the use of their building and resources are paid for by all students, whether they can attend at the times they agreed to or not. When a student can't attend, that revenue would be lost unexpectedly if there were an expectation of a refund - and again, that revenue *could* have been guaranteed had a more reliable student committed to those same slots of time.I highly recommend this music school and I completely endorse their payment policy, mainly for the sake of the teachers who are their most valuable resource.
Joel Williams: Cary School of Music has the best qualified teachers of any music school in the Triangle Area....the atmosphere is great for both CSM students and their family... young children advance rapidly in their skills due to the outstanding teachers at CSM...truly a five-star music school on any scale
Amy Brantley: Cary School of Music is wonderful! My children have been taking lessons at CSM for years and have had wonderful experiences with their teachers and staff. Over the years, they’ve taken piano, flute and violin lessons. Their teachers have all been highly skilled, well-trained at leading music institutions, and share a passion for teaching and music. The staff is friendly, flexible and accommodating. I highly recommend CSM.
Brittany Jones: I have nothing but positive things to say about this school! The people that work there are equally passionate about music and children. I have seen members of this school, teachers and students alike, come together to use their talents to contribute to the local community through volunteer performances for local festivals, as well as at nursing homes. They put together choirs, string ensembles, bands and more. They really care about their community home.My daughter is in her 3rd semester of piano lessons with her teacher, Colin M. She is 5 years old and can not read words yet, but she can already read music thanks to her lessons. And the biggest testimony to her music studies is that it is the highlight of her week. She adores her teacher and just lights up every Friday when lesson time comes around. If you’re looking for a positive music experience for your children, look no further!
Catherine Keefer: CSM is the best! I took flute, piano and voice there as a high school student. They have the most friendly staff, and I loved all of my teachers. I also really enjoyed performing in their recital hall. Highly recommended for all ages!!!
Annika Christensen: I have been going to this school for a very long time, and I have gone from someone who couldn't do anything but sing and randomly play an out of tune guitar with no idea what I was doing to singing and playing Green Day as well as Dodie (she is literally impossible on the ukulele, so that is a crazy thing to say) Chris Boerner is my guitar teacher, he plays in multiple bands and for artists. He is the best guitarist I have ever personally seen, even better than those at concerts. Michael (for some reason I'm blanking his last name right now) is my voice teacher. I have so much fun in his class and my singing has improved SO MUCH! I completely recommend this school!
Tania Prezas: Good school. We have a really wonderful teacher, very knowledgeable and flexible. They organize recitals, a music festival.
Denise P: Speaking from painful experience, regarding specifically strings lessons, do yourself a favor and keep looking elsewhere!! This is not the place for you, if you want your child to develop in any meaningful/timely way, I couldn't believe the difference we noticed for our daughter till she switched to another place. The amount of advancement she made in the brief time she has been with the new teacher compared to this place/teacher is day and night. I feel like we got cheated on the precious time to develop with our daughter (while young). When you have another teacher to compare to, is when you realize the string teacher a this place was literally wasting 5-15 minutes of your child's class time every single time with superfluous things (like filling out his notebook etc). The amount of solid, quality teaching we are getting now as opposed to the lackluster, at a snail pace she got from this place is remarkable COMPARE COMPARE COMPARE is all i can say, don't waste your child's valuable years at this place!
Lily Brannigan: I am part of a family that has to work more than one job to do the things I want in life. One of the things I wanted was to take piano lessons, but when my work schedule became more intense and I couldn't make my lessons, Cary School of Music charged me anyway. They will not refund the money and will continue taking drafts out of my account until the end of the semester. That means over $500 in charges for no lessons at all. This school is not understanding that things come up in life. They operate in black and white and cannot see that life has more gray areas than not. I do not recommend this school unless you simply have money to burn.
Jennifer Fruend: Great school! I wish we had known about it sooner. My daughter has learned so much in only a few weeks.
Cary Desi: Pros: Very convenient location in Cary Downtown. They have a lot of teachers and options for our child to attend at different times.Cons: They will ask you to draft monthly payments from your checking account and SOMETIMES DOUBLE CHARGE your account. Please watch your account carefully if you enroll your child here. When we noticed the double charge and contacted them, they promptly refunded the amount. What if we had not noticed?
