Big Rock Nature Preserve: what do users think?
Jax McGuire: Fun place to explore! And many things to find!
Michael McCarthy: Couldn’t even see it as there is nowhere to park
Tricia Meier: Beautiful quiet gem hidden in Charlotte I never knew existed. You feel like you are 2 hours away from the city. I highly recommend visiting.
Rachel Klein: Great place to wander, climb rocks, and dip your feet in a creek. No designated parking so look closely for the entrance. dog friendly as long as they are leashed.
Akshat Kumar: We loved the preserve. We went on a Friday evening, and it was calm and peaceful. The big rocks that you see when you enter have a historical significance to them related to indigenous people who frequented this area often. It was insightful to learn about it.We climbed the big rocks and looked around for a while before continuing on the hike. The hike itself is mostly well-maintained, but the canopy makes the hike not very well-lit. Also we encountered quite a few insects flying in our faces as we were walking. The creek along the hike makes for a great companion as well. The small falls and the sound associated with it makes the hike all the more peaceful and meditative. The hike itself doesn’t take a lot of time and we were done in around 35-40 minutes. We parked our car on the street near the entrance of the preserve. The area is pretty quiet.Long story short: Is this the most beautiful hike in Charlotte? No.If you’re looking for a convenient hike in and around Charlotte to get some quick cardio, should you go here? Yes.
M S: Very small trail. No parking
Serge Taras: Love it! Nice place for a small easy hike or just relaxing and meditating. It's calm and peaceful. The scenery is great for pictures in any season. You can walk with your puppy
Yanae I Gaskin: Awesome place of solitude, great area to reflect and take in nature. Boulders are huge and interesting. Paths are narrow, make sure you stay on the right path.
Antonio Lucena: Nice outdoors hike and fresh air 👌
Vivek Sawhney: Gem of a place in the middle of residential neighborhoods. Great natural walking 🚶‍♂️ trails and rocks for kids to climb. Street parking only. No restrooms.
Leslie Cramer: One of my favorite places. It’s like a little mountain getaway…..with highway noises. But still. So gorgeous and peaceful.
Ian Wheeler: Short trail with a couple big rocks.
James Roberts: gorgeous spot
Terry Danley: Pretty cool little park in South Charlotte.
P Williams: Worth the detour. Go early. From lunchtime on, parking is limited. Forward thinking on whoever's part that saved it from development. Kudos to whoever covered up the graffiti with natural colors. Must be cool if you own one of the homes that overlooks this unusual natural feature. Creek below could use some serious erosion control. The city/county would be smart to tackle it sooner than later. They're losing a lot of soil that will affect their sewer line & the stability of the house above. More immediately, the cave-in hazard of the creek bank overhangs is going to result in injury to somebody.
John Broccardo: Not a very big place, but worth a visit.
Kc Kc: Definitely a nice surprise in the middle of a subdivision! Perfect little trail close to everything
Nate Daniel: Fun nature park to enjoy with the kids. Perfect to teach them how to enjoy nature, get them wondering about how the giant boulders got here, getting them active and climbing without a bunch of pads and safety nets, and having fun without electronics and screens.Very easy access, park on the side of the street near the sign and the boulders are about 100 feet down a well maintained dirt trail.
Ethan Voss: Lots of fun. Kids love climbing on the big rocks.
Sam Kennedy: Not a hike, very small preserve. That said, the rocks are fascinating and worth a stop!
Camille K: Short but beautiful little trail.
