    Anna Tabares: I found out about City Speakeasy through a promo event in Raleigh, and since I've always wanted to take French lessons, I thought - why not now? I'm happy I found them! They offer small group classes at a convenient time in a great location downtown, classes are really fun and interactive, plus the course includes 2 events outside the classroom where you can socialize with others in your group and put new language skills to practice (super fun!) I highly recommend city speakeasy to anyone who'd like to learn a new language (and not just from text book - but the real way people speak). Thanks for amazing experience city speakeasy!

I loved it here!The classes are small, so the teacher can have more one-on-one time with you.     ローラ: I can't recommend JCE enough! All of the teachers are amazing; very kind and knowledgeable. They are all native speakers, too.The adult classes are designed for someone who has a job, so while they go a lot slower than a college course, it's actually manageable. The teaching style is also great for retention. I've been taking classes here for several years, and I plan to continue!!As a testament to the classes efficacy (assuming that you study outside of class some), I can now read manga in Japanese and I talk to a few people online in Japanese! This is after several years of study, but that's some pretty good results, I think.Note regarding covid-19 (updated June 2023)- In-person classes have resumed, and at least for my Adult class, mask wearing has tapered off (about 30% of my class still wears masks every class), but classes are small and the school uses air purifiers. I think JCE is doing the best they can. They continue to offer individual and group lessons via zoom as well, which I think is great.

    Tiffany Ayoola: I am happy that I enrolled my son. I see his confidence building and his enthusiasm with learning growing. The staff is amazing and communication is great. Such a big help!
    Doom Scroller: I'm glad to see that others had a good experience, but we did not.My child loved going to Sylvan for math help, but they dropped him from tutoring because he did poorly on one of his math tests. Let that sink in: the tutoring service will not continue to tutor if your child needs help. Which begs the question, what is the point of Sylvan's existence if not to tutor? They refuse to give us an explanation for why they will not tutor him. It is truly bizarre since he is working a grade ahead in math and he does not have any special issues or behavioral problems. I am very upset with this place.
    Beth Englert: The teachers at Sylvan are my heroes! My 7th grader fell behind from 2020-202, and he really struggled coming back into school last summer. He'd always been an A/B+ student, but the first quarter he was a B/C student, and struggling to get those grades. His outgoing personality had diminished along with his confidence.We turned to Sylvan for extra help, and he spent 2-4 hours/week with them for the next 2 quarters. During that time, the extra support, one-on-one direct instruction, and personal interaction with the Sylvan teachers did wonders for his comprehension and his confidence.We decided to let him fly solo for the last grading period. He's back to being an A/B+ student who participates in class discussions. He's back to being happy, as happy as a middle school boy can be. He's back to being a confident kid and practices good study habits. He sets higher expectations from himself because he's realized that he's capable. His teachers at Sylvan played a tremendous role, and I'm incredibly grateful to each of them for helping me get my kid back and back on track.

One child was able to significantly improve his SAT scores which in turn translated into an academic scholarship to the school of his choice. During these past 2 years of Covid, Sylvan has been essential in supporting my other child from failing classes to passing grades by offering a space that he could work in and get the 1:1 help he needed with all of the core classes. The Sylvan teachers are truly knowledgable and worked with me, my child and the school for success. Without Sylvan, my child would not be on track to graduate high school.
