Sebastian Schmid: Slightly disappointed so far. Two of the gentleman that work there were very helpful, one however did not seem to like his job very much. I asked him if they did commercial accounts and he looked at me like I had two heads. It’s ok that they don’t but acting like that’s a weird question to ask? Also wish they had more s4s hardwoods and the 2x4 pine was almost 3 dollars more than the big box stores. But they did have a great deal on 4x8 birch sheets. I’ll be coming back but hopefully not dealing with Mr personality lol.

Ladybug Gone Postal: Terrible customer service, if asking for help you are treated as an inconvenience. There was only one employee who was helpful. You better know your lumber and not have any questions.

Not Sure: Absolutely world-class staff, service, and selection. It's an amazing place and I feel extremely lucky to have this incredible resource available within a few minutes of home.I only wish they were open for longer hours, as they usually close somewhat early most days.

David Ross Yeager (Ross): It's hard to know where to start... the friendly staff and the exceptional level of customer service (Kim & Terrence in particular!) or the outstanding value for the cost. We've lived in Raleigh for years and had seen this place (tucked beside the railroad tracks as you head over to the Fairgrounds), but never really had an occasion to stop in. After pricing lumber at the big box stores, I decided to give them a look. Now I can't imagine every looking anywhere else. By far the best base prices I found - and, in fact, saving are further compounded depending on the volume. As for quality of the materials - absolutely top level. I bought trim and it was all in perfect condition. So regardless of your project, if it involves wood start with Capitol City. Incidentally, they also have a great variety of other items and tools in their shop - again all at great prices. In short, stop wasting time and paying more at the big box stores. Make one trip here and you'll be a customer for life.

Vestige Architectural: First time shopping here. I needed materials that could not be found at a box store and this place was open on Saturday when most other builder's supply places are not. They had the southern yellow framing lumber I needed and they are set up so you can pick your own. While I was pulling out what I wanted, an empoyee was walking it to my truck. Price on yellow pine was good. Also needed LVLs and they had what I needed but they don't seem to carry a lot. I looked at some of the other reviews. Lumber prices have been crazy high for a long time and are just now getting reasonable again, so I don't think this place is out of line. I can see how some may find the place confusing due to the multiple buildings but this is an old place that has expanded inside the constraints of their lot so you just have to figure it out. I would now favor this place over the others like Builder's FirstSource if I need to go pick something up.

Steven Jones: I needed a couple extra decking boards to finish a local contract. Capitol city lumber was 5 minutes from job site so I gave them a try. I went to store pulled in read all the confusing signs and then pressed the call button. I waited 5 mins and then pressed it again. I waited another five minutes and a man on his cigarette break comes out asks if I need help and says he will send someone. He disappears and after waiting another 10-15 minutes I load the three boards myself and go to the counter to pay. I was then told I would have to go back outside and wait for someone to write me a ticket. I explained that I have been waiting patiently and no one ever showed. 5 minutes after that a young man is sent out to measure each of my 3 boards with a tape measure. I thought it was a joke but apparently not. The three boards I purchased were almost double the price of Lowe’s and Home Depot for 4 less board ft.(close to 50$ more for three standard decking boards.)Their prices are insane. I knew when I purchased it was way too expensive for three boards and the only explanation I was given was that the boards were already dry. Needless to say this business it taking advantage of their customers and without that gimmick would be out of business don’t waste your time or money and definitely price check. They got me once but it is the last I will not support businesses like this.

Reddit recommended Capital City Lumber. Everyone here was so nice, particularly the gentleman that hangs out in the middle building where all the plywood is. He provided great advice on an economical choice for my needs.

Crystal Ricevuto: Nothing but love for Capitol City Lumber. While this store is geared towards serving professionals, they have the kindest, most helpful staff for the casual DIYer (like myself). They go above and beyond with the service they provide (and their prices are honestly better than the big box stores currently for moulding.) Definitely recommend this place... I mean, I felt compelled to write them a review they're so good!!

Randy Overton: Great service. Plenty of quality products. Only place that sells the best stain, TWP. Last longer than any other stain. Rated as the best, but it is not cheap. I purchased 11 gallons today. We have two large decks. One coat last for 6 years. Beads up water for 5 plus years. We have used since builder told me about it back in 2005.

Concerned Family: I just visited my local Walmart on Kildaire Farm Road in Cary NC. I had a small package that I had ordered online that I needed to pick up. Since I had additional shopping I wanted to do there, I decided to retrieve my package at customer service instead of checking in online and sitting in my car outside the garden center. I THOUGHT I would be helping the employees - not bothering them to walk outside to my car since I had further shopping to do there.Well…that was a BIG mistake!!! I went to the customer service area to retrieve my package as I knew it was a tiny parcel and should be located up front. “Customer service” hence the words “customer service” was no help! Let me be clear, they weren’t busy….best I can remember no one was behind me in line.Instead of providing some customer service, I was told “oh you have to drive to the pick up lane out at garden center OR you can try calling “this” number as they pointed to the wall and maybe someone from there can come up here and help you.” My thoughts….’Hey, you already standing here…no one in-line behind me…can’t you help me?’ So I said, “maybe I should just cancel this order because this is becoming more complicated than it needs to be.” Thinking…I’m standing here with my pickup info…no one inline behind me…can’t you just provide some customer service and do this job?So I then walk to the garden center instead of moving my car. A VERY NICE HELPFUL employee approaches me and says “looks like you might need some help?” His name was Tristian. Thank you so very much Tristian for 1)noticing I may need help and then 2)helping me.I tell Tristian I was in the store needing a few things and thought I’d just pick up my package. He looks up my information and walks with me right back to the customer service dept and retrieves my package. He even takes the time to explain to me that the garden center really only houses LARGE parcels and that tiny packages are housed up front in the customer service area!Thank you so very much Tristian. He walked from the garden center all the way to the front customer service counter. I couldn’t budge 2 employees that were standing behind the customer counter to walk 2 feet and help me.AND then…. wait for it……the MAJOR issue transpired as I was leaving the store. One of those customer service “ladies” had the nerve to say out loud in front of other customers now in line at the customer service area… “thought you were canceling that order?” as I was leaving the store. I backed my self up from the exit door and asked, “Do you REALLY want a cancelled order for this store? Do you think Wal-Mart REALLY wants me to cancel this order?” She continued on with “that’s what you said you were going to do.” I mean seriously, this employee is trying to start an argument in front of other customers???” Who hired this person? What qualities did she fake in her interview?That my friend is how that one “employee” treats customers! All this I’m sure can be replayed on the store camera so the store manager Stephen can see who he has working there! Thank you Tristian! Need 100 more employees like you….the other one obviously doesn’t care about customer service or the future of Walmart so she needs to go home.Please note, I purposely didn’t mention the rude associate by name. C C: I was at returns waiting, three attendants chatting; finally they gave me a store credit. I walked in to buy what I needed and when coming back to use the store credit, the rep at the self pay section didn’t give us a coin so we used our car key. The number for the store credit was illegible so we went to customer service and even though the card was just issued, we were told they could only track the card during business hours. My husband was upset and said why Lowes makes everything too complicated and I heard the person said, you can go to another store. I suggested to simply discount the money from my purchase as I had my receipt. Finally they could do that, our time worth much more, for sure we’ll follow their advice and go to Home Depot.

Parking lot is usually very busy and crowded in normal operating hours, be prepared to park a ways out and it can be hairy safely navigating around because people can be dumb drivers...sometimes me too if I'm honest.
