Charles gehlken: We stay at this amazing place at least once a year! Beautiful and serene! We always have a wonderful time, and I am struggling with putting 4 stars for service as it is their own standard I am comparing it to. They are normally a level of perfection rarely matched by others. However, this last time was a bit under that standard. We ordered coffee with cream and sugar and got a dirty cup and no spoon. When they did housekeeping after the first night, they took my robe as it was lying on the bed anddidn'tt replace it. Simple easy things that they fixed rapidly, but mistakes we are not used to at this usually impeccable hotel! This, of course, will not discourage us from attending again, if not before, then definitely on our next anniversary!Rooms: Rooms are always clean and well presented. They always try to go the extra mile!Food & drinks: Their bar and lounge are leagues above most within their market. However, Herons restaurant is an absolute must! It is fine dining at its absolute finest! From the 7 course art tour that takes you on an optical journey that you can literally taste to a brunch that intices you with dishes such as crab cake eggs Benedict. karin golden: I was gifted a massage at Umstead spa for Mother’s Day, and I felt like it was such a bad experience for over $200. When I first booked it my massage was 1:15 until 2:15 and they said I can arrive at 12:15 and stay until 3:15. I’ve been to spas all over the world and I’ve never had an end time so I thought that was strange but I just went with it. When I arrived, they said that my end time is 3 PM not 315. My massage started a few minutes late and the entire time all I was thinking was “how I’m going to shower, get ready, dry my hair by 3 PM.” Not relaxing at ALL. By the time I left the room and took the elevator back down to the locker room. I checked my phone and it was 2:25. Usually, I like to steam after massage but obviously there was no time for that. I got to check out right before 3 PM. But if I hadn’t, would they really come looking for me in the locker room and kick me out? I find this policy so strange. And I told them that and they got very rude about it. 

kuenga kay: This review is long due. The spa itself is impressive, and the ambiance itself is laid back and relaxing. The property is beautiful, and I can see why people choose this place as a wedding venue. We also ate at the restaurant; the service and the food were exceptional. It’s in small portions but every bit as savory. The little complimentary juice they give you tastes so good!!! They have specific hours they remain open, so if you don’t have a reservation, call in and ask beforehand. I would definitely go in when I have more time so I can go around the property and really enjoy what they have to offer.

C S: As my first time experiencing the spa as I have waited a few years due to Covid and then closed for renovations, I was finally able to get an appointment and so excited to visit. I was beyond disappointed. The massage itself was underwhelming, the room was too bright even though I asked the therapist to have the room dark, which they did not accommodate and could not relax. I have received better massages at a generic massage chain then I did today. As this spa is rated in the top 10 spas to visit in NC they should hold therapists to a certain technique standard as an expectation. I will not be returning as the overall experience was not worth the wait or the money.

Brian C: Stayed at the hotel one night as part of a wedding. The wedding itself was great, but the Umstead is a hotel that I would not trust with my luggage.We were part of the wedding party so when we arrived, they told us to tag our luggage and leave it in a pick-up area so it could be taken up to our rooms. However, when we went up to our rooms after the wedding, our luggage wasn't there. We hoped that perhaps they would deliver them later, but they never did. Later that night, we found our luggage by coincidence just sitting in a meeting room completely unattended at almost midnight. Who knows what would have happened to our belongings if we never found it ourselves and they sat there all night? On top of all this one of my bags was missing!When I talked to the management about it, they said they'd look into the situation and get back to me. Weeks go by and no one ever contacts me. I then had to start bugging them to get a response. After over a month of me calling them several times to see if they found my bag, they finally tell me that they can't find it and have no idea why the bellhops delivered the bags to the wrong place, basically shrugging off the whole situation. The manager also told me that they cannot accept responsibility for the missing bag and cannot compensate me since "it was never in their care," despite me voicing that I felt like it was in their care since they were the ones who re-assured me that they would deliver my bags in the first place when I left them in the pick-up area.It is pretty shameful that a 5 star hotel can't even correctly deliver bags to a room. A seemingly simple task to most. And it is shocking the amount of irresponsibility and apathy I experienced from the staff when they misplace your luggage. Do better and please don't treat your future guests like how you've treated me and my friends.

Rosi Hanley: Went for lunch with a group. We asked for 7 separate checks and were told this was not possible, it was company policy, one check per party. But then we were told that someone would speak to the manager (or supervisor) and, then, it was suddenly possible to get separate checks. But not 7 separate checks; only 6 separate checks. Why?

T H: Very romantic, picturesque place. The building, the hallways, and grounds are beautiful. The front reeks staff and bartenders were friendly and helpful. We stayed in room 301 which was painted in an unsettling “purple” color ceiling to floor and not my taste but perhaps other rooms have more neutral colors. The furniture and decor were classic and timeless. No bathrobes in the rooms (even suites) or cappuccino available which is odd for a 4-Star stay. There is drip coffee available but we love our cappuccinos and usually have them when paying for four star accommodations.

Raviv Shefet: My experience with the reservation of Milton was nothing but disturbing. I was treated rudely and aggressively by Ms. Whitehall. I had a discount code of 20% on standard rate which I booked in person with the total amount of $429, when I spoke to Ms Whithall she told me that the rate for those two days is $490. When I pointed out that the rate I was offered was not a 20% discount from the standard rate as it should have been $392, she began to scream at me and told me she does not have time to deal with me.This service is unacceptable, and I decided to cancel my reservation with the hotel.

Nice room, comfortable chairs, nice views out the windows, good a/v support, nice reception area outside the rooms, and a nice patio. But even better than the space was the staff! They were just so helpful and accommodating. They helped us negotiate and work out logistics with the event in the adjacent Davis Room. They took care of all our needs. Great knowing that the staff got your back to make your event a success. I’ll certainly be back when I need an even space!

Had to basically fix the issue myself. The pool was closed. Was uncomfortable and did not feel very safe as a female to get there early in the evening and 2 men sitting in a work truck as if they was doing repairs or something, then to leave hours later come back and had to go outside late at night hours later to get my charger and they was still out there looking around etc. the bathroom tub was dirty and had hair in it.

The rooms look big and quite satisfactory. The kitchen was also good there are all necessary items there which you need to cook your food. The housekeeping is provided every other day. An iron rod was also available.Coming to breakfast they have complimentary breakfast in the morning.which is basically American breakfast. There are a lot of options available for breakfast and overall it was good to start your morning. The staff is also well behaved and ready to help you at every moment you need.Laundry is also available on a self payments basis. Basically a coin laundry system. They will provide the detergent and all which you need for laundry.Parking space is also huge so no need to worry about parking. Wifi service was also good.Overall good experience for good stay. Chanchal: We were there for two weeks. Things I like breakfast, behavior of the staff, kitchen and location of the hotel, has a walking trail near by. However, we had some issues in connecting to internet many times, and hotel desk was asking us to coordinate with internet provider. Though all the time they resolved the issues but after calling and waiting for minutes. Floor AC was not working properly, it was noisy. We had to change the room because of no hot water available in bath tub. It has gym, pool and paid laundry, plenty of parking space.

KiKiDStarr: I'm being generous with the 2 stars. When I first arrived the woman that checked us in was so sweet. We had a nice conversation but then the stay went downhill. I booked online a 1 bedroom suite. They gave me a studio. So I went back downstairs to speak with the woman. She not so patiently explained to me that was all they had and that they were an older hotel in the chain and they didn't have 1 bedroom suites. But they still charged me for the 1 bedroom suite. The room was liveable but had a musky odor that they tried to hide with deodorizer. Then the TV didn't work but after talking to the woman at the front desk 3 times I wasn't about to go down for the 4th time. The greatest part of my stay was when they assigned someone else the room I was staying in and a strange man walked in. He was just as shocked as I was. Poor guy. Poor me and my kid. I think we all had heart attacks. Then I pulled out the sofa bed. That was fun. I had to really work for it. Had to move the whole sofa so the bed would open. Did not have furniture mover on my mini vacation bingo card. So, in conclusion, I'm pretty sure there are better places to stay in Cary. Not worth the price.

Zachary Sanfilippo: Near the interstate so it was easy to get to. The staff was pleasant and professional, especially the front desk and cafe counter folks. The room and facilities were clean. While I was in the hot tub the pool engineer checked in to see if it was at a good temperature (it was). Nice gym, but the highlight for me had to be the breakfast in the morning. All the standard options were present and there were some fresh made things too that were delicious! There was a big pot of fluffy scrambled eggs, a sliced and fried maple sausage dish with peppers and a roasted potatoe option. Two thumbs up for this place!

Although it’s not a 5 star hotel, my experience was great! The room is spacious and equipped with almost everything you expect in an apartment style kitchen. The housekeeping can be a little inconsistent. Besides that, everything else was great. I only asked for a drink once, she told me no hello or no smile or nothing, she was behind the counter and talking to a customer and casually looked at me and said "I'm closed" then proceeded with her conversation for 15 more mins all while standing where real bar tenders stand to serve and work. Now that is not only rude but not smart. She could have said I'm closing in 5 mins... I wanted to grab a drink and take it upstairs with me, it would have lasted her 20 seconds total.

Lattoya Serrano: The hotel was very clean and my room smelled lemon fresh. The staff was friendly and the cookies were amazing. The elevators were clean, and upon arrival the parking and premises were neat and inviting. The location is near food and stores. And no one was annoyed with my repeat asking of cookies 😅 . I can not wait to stay again. 10 out of 10!

Brandi W: This hotel is in a great location, very close (walkable) to many dining and shopping options. There is a Target right next door and a large movie theater across the street. Hotel was clean and our room was clean and comfortable. I don’t care for the pocket door for the bathroom, but that is just personal preference. The bed was comfortable, large flat screen TV, plenty of room to work and sit. There was no microwave in our room but there was a small fridge. The hotel was quiet. All employees we encountered were so kind and helpful. The hotel has a nice restaurant/bar right off lobby area.

Calona Floyd: The entire staff were exceptionally friendly. The rooms were clean, the food was tasty, and they provided baby cribs.I would like to highlight Pam and Nikeshia, they went above and beyond to make sure my families stay was comfortable and pleasant.They not only were hospitable, but they were also very kind and helpful.I will most definitely return because of that!

Lisa Anderson: The hotel was ok but we experienced too many problems. The room was spacious we liked that. The issues were the toilet overflowed, the telephone didn't work to call to get help, the cable went out for hours, the ice machines didn't work on my floor you have to go hunt down another machine that works. The pool is closed for reconstruction but it doesn't say that in their website only that the hot tub was under reconstruction. The worst part was the rudeness of the manager of the hotel. She acts like she doesn't care about issues we had and her attitude is like whatever. Not going to stay here again just because of her she needs to check into another job not servicing people.

Henny: I won’t get into details, pictures speak 1,000 words. I’ll only add explanations for certain pictures. -The basket on the counter for “express checkout”, that is simply pure laziness. The employee sits around the corner on a cellphone and does not Acknowledge guest leaving. Not sure how that’s defined as customer service. -the room lighting, half the bulbs were missing or flickering… overall, this facility is a last resort. Not recommended for any reason.Food & drinks: Not appetizing AT ALL. All good is simply heated freezer items and all drinks are watered down and have no flavor. Only decent item is the self making waffle section.

Jason Shipp: Comfortable room, nice location. My favorite feature was that room faced back of hotel to west, a screen of trees and on ramp to highway. There was virtually no light and very quiet. Couch hadn’t been cleaned around for a while. There was a t-shirt on floor beside couch, not ours. Pool was nice, water warm. Lower floor walking from pool to elevator smelled bad, like animal feces. Not sure what that was about. Breakfast was okay (instant eggs watery, cinnamon roll old and dry).

Angelina Jackura: Oh where to begin… I actually live in the area, but wanted to book a room for the night for my daughter and I for her 11th birthday because this location has an indoor heated pool (my daughter has battled cancer for a long time and swimming is one of the few activities she can actually do because she cannot walk) The self proclaimed managers, Jaqueline and Shrimp were condescending and extremely unfriendly from the second we walked in. The hotel itself was fine, but while sitting in our room in the office chair, my daughter suddenly fell back after the leg of the chair broke, hitting her head on the floor. When I reported the incident to the staff, they were more concerned about the chair itself than my daughter. Then when we were getting ready to check out (we were told we could do a late check out at 12:00) someone came and knocked at the door. I was in my bra and underwear, so quickly grabbed the first towel I saw which turned out to be a hand towel, so I barely opened the door to see what they wanted and it was Shrimp, asking me why we hadn’t left yet. I told him that we would be leaving at 12, at which point he told me it was 12:20. Turns out the clock in our room was an hour behind. I apologized and told him we would get out asap, at which point he said “if you’re not our by 12:30 I’m calling the police for trespassing. Do you not know how to follow rules????!!!” Throughout the conversation I asked if he could wait so that I could put some clothes on, but he stood there for at least 5 minutes berating me. I cannot tell you how weird the whole encounter was. Needless to say, I felt very uncomfortable. My daughter , who was there to celebrate her birthday, also had to witness the whole ordeal. As we were leaving, I inquired about my $100 deposit, and Jaqueline said “you will be receiving your deposit, not that you deserve it after spilling juice on the sheets. In fact, I’m giving you three minutes to leave the premises or I am calling the police for trespassing.” I keep running the whole experience thru my mind, and I am still thoroughly confused by the events that took place. Not only was there not an apology for my daughter getting injured in their chair on their property, but I was belittled, berated in the nude, and consistently threatened. It’s sad because the hotel itself isn’t bad, but every member of the staff was not only rude, but behaved as if they were the customers.

Kenneth Gunter: I stay here when family comes into town or if I have to get something like the heat fixed. They have clean rooms and a very nice staff. Gym and a pool and of course we can’t forget the continental breakfast is on point too!
