Marvin L: A customer of this store on Franklin st since it changed from Shoe show and a copy store in 1982. The best store in the area , and the busiest. Tony, Tyrone, Rod, and Gail, the designer - helps an incredible amount of Realtors and wives and especially guys who need assistance in Chapel Hill & Carrboro NC. They need her for color consultation .

Heather Carper: We planned a paint touch up project and went to this store for the same paint. We have never bought paint before; our house is new construction and was painted for us. I told the person working with us that we were entirely new to buying paint, that we need it to match our current paint, and that we have no idea what we are doing and need help. She asked what we needed and I provided the paint names & codes. Asked what type (flat, semi,etc) and I was mostly sure but they seemed annoyed that we didn’t just know what the differences were. I had a coupon from our builder and it didn’t work, and the guy there was accusatory and told me I used it at another store. Not sure why the coupon didn’t work, it was probably just that I’d had it too long, but it wasn’t nice to feel immediately accused like I did something wrong. I tried to explain but I could see he immediately got annoyed so just stopped.Fast forward a couple days later. We have painters at our house. They do all the patchwork, then pop open the can of paint that will do most of our house and surprise- it is a lot darker than what is on our walls. Of course we have no idea what went wrong.I call the Sherwin Williams store and spoke to manager Michael who had answered. He didn’t want to listen to me fully explain, he wanted to correct me very quickly and make it my fault. I asked him to please listen, that we came to his store and asked for help, saying several times that we didn’t know what we were doing, said that we have a new construction home, and no one explained what he was so quick to tell me today- that the builders use a different formula that they can’t make anymore at the store. Instead of listening, or understanding the lack of education from his staff that caused us this issue, he continued to tell me the same info over and over and that I’ll need to paint my whole house.Thankfully the painters we worked with knew what to do. They cut a piece of our existing wall and we took that to Sherwin Williams to color match it.I have no idea why the staff and manager were so deliberately unhelpful but fair warning. If you go here for paint, talk to an expert before going over to buy what you need.**Update to say I called the number the business reply provided and left a message. I got a call back and the person I spoke to was extremely reasonable and understanding. She apologized and allowed us to return the paint that was purchased on bad recommendation that didn’t work for us.

I always get exactly what I need and if it's not in stock, they're quick to find it at another location, call it in, and I'll have it fast when I arrive.Today, I went in to get some paint when I noticed Erin was working with 2 very angry customers. Every time the lady, (I don't know her personally, but I'll call her Karen) would walk by me, she would whisper "think twice" to warn me about the "bad service" which was equally creepy and funny. Erin was following protocol and was extremely professional and calm throughout it all. Very well done, Erin!!!

Mike Lang: Waited for 10 mins outside. Watched a guy pull up ask for spanish speaking employee skipping me show him a can that he needed more of in that color brings it out to him. Then addresses another guy that just pulled up. I said that i was next he said i need to call and that this guy called. I said how do i call in a color match his response is thats what we come out side for. At this point I just walked away. Ill take my buisness else where. This is how you treat a company who has a national account with yall. Id rather go to home depot. Not to mention the way you guys are operating takes 10 times longer then just having us come in the store and stand six feet apart. Highly disappointed.

However, when I went to the Cary Preston store in person, the asst manager Brent helped me out and said they will do everything possible to help me out. Even after knowing that I’ll place an online order, he walked me through all the details to chose the right paint and tools for my specific requirements. It was an wonderful experience and i felt like my business was appreciated. I even called him a couple of times after my visit and he spent a good amount of time to clarify my doubts and answer my questions. He was very knowledgeable, friendly and courteous and I would definitely shop in this store even though it’s not the closest SW location from my place.

Lucy Walsh: I came to this store based on prior reviews of excellent customer service but unfortunately I didn’t experience that today. I asked for a sample to be told I couldn’t get one because they don’t have any (apparently due to a general shortage of supplies). I guess this is not their fault but kind of crazy for a business that relies on selling a wide choice of colors to not be able to provide any samples before purchase. What was really annoying though was the attitude I got upon asking a couple of reasonable questions such as “is this the same at all SW stores”. The guy clearly either didn’t want me to be there or didn’t want to be there himself. Either way I won’t be going back so I guess that will make us both happy!

They suggested the Minwax Pre-Stain Wood Conditioner and mixed a custom stain color for the outside. I selected standard english chestnut for the inside. Then they recommended the Helmsman® spar urethane to seal the whole thing.

Unlike most hardware store paint counter associates, SW employees will give you advice/ suggestions about their products- quantities, uses, Sheena, etc. I also love their products! All of the paint seems to have good coverage. I love Emerald for walls. We have refinished 2 dressers with Pro Classic and it's literally the most perfect paint. Thin it with floetrol and you can't see a brush stroke on it. It looks like a professional spray job. My girls have been hard on the dresser and the finish has held up beautifully. This current project is to paint a built-in desk/ bookcase. I'm excited to see the results!

Al K.: Went into this place to get a specialty 1 gallon paint that I spent $70 on. Got home and tested the paint and discovered that I was given the wrong type of paint (non flat). Went back to this store to return or exchange the paint and was told that they do not accept returns and I would have to pay for another gallon. Even though i requested a particular paint and was given the wrong paint they refused to do anything about it. I'd never go to another Sherwin Williams again if this is how they treat customers buying their expensive paint. I'm in the real estate business and they just lost a potential customer that considered giving more of my business to.
