YN Lowry: Made the appt for my children over 3 weeks ago. I ensured their records from military medical were transferred and had previously visited Dr Appels office to fill out all of the new patient paperwork in advance so that all was taken care of for our first appointment. We had an 8:00 appt which we arrived 10 minutes early for. The office was open, but the admin lights were off. We sat in the waiting room for 10 minutes before the lights were turned on. We were never greeted. I finally signed in and then proceeded to wait. We were told after an hour that our info was being put into the computer. We sat another hour at which we were updated saying they were still working on our info. At this point I told the receptionist that they have had our info for 3 weeks, and have had 3 weeks to process this info. This is unacceptable. At 10:00, 2 hours after our SCHEDULED appt, we were finally seen. The PA evaluated my children. Again, this is unacceptable. When I called I specifically asked if Dr Appel was seeing new patients. I did not ask if her practice or associates were accepting new patients. I specifically requested Dr Appel. If i had been told an associate would see the kids, that would have been fine, but I was lead to believe the Dr herself would evaluate my children. That is whom I scheduled with. My daughter was given a vaccine to which she had a reaction. She laid on the exam table for a few minutes. A nurse came in to give her water and evaluate her. The nurse then joked that is it always the 'weak white girls' who have the vaccine problems. To insult my daughter based on her skin color is beyond acceptable. Let me remind the staff we had an 8:00 appt. We arrived At 7:50. I woke my children at 6:30 am so that they could shower and get ready. My daughter had no breakfast due to early appt. She is not weak, she was famished! I had planned to take the kids to breakfast after their appt. It turned into lunch as we ended up being there for 3 hours. At this point, I am now in the search mode for a new practice. I understand that people have off days, but the entire office and staff lack professionalism and organizational skills. Dr Appel's practice may have been stellar at some point, but standards have lessened considerably. I encourage anyone considering her practice to look elsewhere.
